Sol Costa Daurada by Melia offers a clean and well-maintained setting, as cleanliness is a consistent highlight, especially regarding daily room service and public areas. While the hotel's atmosphere receives mixed reviews due to the entertainment choices, the amenities are generally appreciated for their cleanliness and the inviting pool area. The service shines with friendly staff, although there are occasional lapses in allergen awareness. Rooms are clean with necessary basics but may feel small and dated to some guests. The location is a hit, conveniently close to attractions, but watch out for extra costs that can impact the overall value.

This was our 17th time staying in Salou but our first time at Sol Costa Daurada. The hotel is exceptionally clean, the pool is a good size, the poolside bar is good quality food and a decent price, with really friendly bar staff! The food hall is a good size (it gave off more canteen vibes than a restaurant) but all the staff are welcoming and your tables get cleaned from plates very fast. The food is good, we always found something to eat - I wouldn’t say the meat options were always amazing and the choice was restricted, but the salads and cold meats were all great.

Location is good if you know Salou and don’t have any health issues that would affect you walking 15/20 mins to the beach. Room is slightly smaller than we are used to in Villa Romana (where we usually stay) and the decor is slightly dated - but that can be expected when the hotel was built in 2002 and hasn’t been refurbished fully.

The nighttime entertainment was for kids at 9 and then adults from 10 I think, it was very loud and mainly in Spanish. This didn’t bother us as we speak Spanish and also didn’t have any kids with us, however, I can understand that if you were an English speaking family with small children that wanted the entertainment, then you may be disappointed at the lack of English speaking kid’s entertainment. As I say, I understand it’s a Spanish hotel and it does appear to cater mainly to Spanish clientele, and this wasn’t a problem for us as 3 adults (me and my parents).

There was a shortcut at the back of the pool to get out onto the road to access the beach slightly quicker than walking all around the outside. If you’re going to Portaventura it’s only about a 10 min walk uphill. We booked with Jet 2 and didn’t see a rep at the hotel other than one time, also didn’t have a welcome meeting (but that isn’t the hotel’s fault).

Overall, it is a nice hotel with good amenities, I would say it is more 3.7/5 stars rather than 4 stars, as I do feel it falls slightly below Ohtels Villa Romana (where we usually stay). We would stay again, as it was cheap and cheerful and we have no complaints. However we will be returning to Villa Romana in September instead :)

What can I say.. this hotel just ticks all the boxes! We came here with some doubts after reading some of the reviews… those who complain have very little to complain about! The staff are just amazing, in every aspect, the bar staff are especially brilliant, go above and beyond! Rooms are basic but had everything we needed, fresh towels everyday and room cleaned everyday too. Breakfast is perfect, if you want a plate of donuts, danishes or croissants… to a fully cooked breakfast toast and many extras.. go down to the back for eggs cooked to your liking 😉 . We had dinner one night and the buffet had so much selection, the buffet €19 each and drinks you have to order and pay before hand which isn’t ideal but easy to order more drinks if needed. A 10 minute walk & you are in salou town centre and beach one way or portaventura theme park the other. We had such a lovely relaxing week. Trust me we are a fussy family and this place ticked all the boxes 😊 .

We went for 4 days and overall had a good experience.
The location is great and is only 10 minute walk to the beach/main shops. The transfer from the airport only took about 10 minutes to the hotel and all jet2 staff were very helpful and friendly upon arrival at the airport to find the correct bus etc
The hotel was very clean and rooms were cleaned everyday
The food was good for the extra price it was to do half board. We paid an extra £7 each for the 4 days for breakfast and dinner included so I wasn’t expecting fine dining! There was always something to eat no matter how picky you may be - chips, chicken nuggets, pizza, pasta, rice, spaghetti etc for dinner and bacon, eggs, sausages, bread rolls and a selection pastries for breakfast as well as tea coffee hot chocolate orange/pineapple juice etc. At dinner one of the staff takes your drinks order and gives a receipt. On the way out you bring the receipt up and pay for the drinks - all breakfast drinks are included.
The room has a mini fridge - big enough to fit a few drinks which was was fine for us
The room was very warm despite the air conditioning being on! This was because the air condition only comes on with the room key in so the room had heated up all day
Staff in the restaurant were very friendly and polite always in the morning and evening. They had lollipops for kids some nights and were brilliant with people. However, unfortunately I can’t say the same for the reception staff as unless you were Spanish they didn’t want much to do with you. One of the days i had left the room key in the room and went down to get another one, the woman on reception gave me a look when I told her and didn’t speak one word for the duration of time I was with her to get the key. Manners are a simple thing but some of the receptionists just didn’t have them!
Caribe waterpark is brilliant we went there on our first day. It was very busy and queues were long but when you’ve got the whole day you manage to get round everything. It was 10 minute walk from hotel. We got a locker but the key was given to us by itself with no strap, unless you had a zip pocket you had to hold it all day!! Luckily I had a strap bag with me and used the strap of my bag and attached it onto the key to wear round my neck. Just a thought of having zip pocket swimming shorts if going here and needing a locker.
We also went to aquapolis waterpark in la Pineda one day. It was raining this day and there was very few at the waterpark. This meant we were straight on every slide all day with no queues! Brilliant day and better slides also. We walked this as well and it was about a 55 minute walk.
We also went to the market in salou. This was on a Monday and was a 15 minute walk. It was brilliant lots of purses, bags, shoes, jumpers, men’s shirts, bikinis etc. Although when we were there it was getting very warm so make sure to get down early in the cool of the day!
Overall it was a great holiday, lovely hotel and there is lots to do and see in Salou! Would definitely return to this hotel again

We booked this hotel last minute with Jet2 holidays after our original holiday to Tenerife was cancelled with TUI. We arrived at the hotel to find out they didn't have our reservation which then took over an hour to sort out. There must have just been a delay in processing everything with us booking 3 days before arriving. One lady on reception give our girls age 11 and 3 a lolly and some colours and paper to keep them occupied while everything got sorted which was nice.

We finally got to our room which was really clean. We had a double bed and two single beds pushed together. The beds were really comfy and we slept pretty well. We did feel like there was not enough storage space though or enough plugs. TV was all in Spanish so that didn't get used.
I'll give the shower 5*. Nice, big walk in shower and basically gave you a massage as you washed.

Pool area was immaculate, we are so used to hotels where people have their towels down at 6am, so it was nice that there was always plenty of sunbeds available.

Food was average, my 3 year old lived off pasta and chips. I mean there was quite a lot to try if your adventurous but cooked snails was not very appetising to us.

The location of the hotel is about 15/20 minutes from the beach and the same distance the opposite way the Portaventura world. We loved Salou but would prefer a hotel closer to the centre next time.

The downfall for us was the entertainment, the mini disco was ok but then most nights were just quizzes which we are not really into. They had a couple of shows on but they weren't great to be honest. We felt they favoured the Spanish more.

We was a little annoyed that on our last day we was getting picked up at 7:35am and asked reception if we would be able to grab a quick something to eat before we went and they said they will leave a note and the restaurant would open 10 minutes early for us. That morning we went to the restaurant and they refused to open the doors any earlier then 7:30. The coach arrived at 7:30 so the kids had to do without.

Overall we still had a lovely stay but would opt for a hotel closer to the centre next time.

Just returned from Salou, we had a great holiday, my wife organised the whole thing and this was the hotel she picked, it was situated a little out from the town centre, but was a pleasant ten minute walk into the restaurants and shops, also very close to the Portaventura theme park.
I found the staff excellent, especially Rosie, she was a very pleasant and nice lady who would greet you every morning at breakfast, the breakfast staff work very hard and efficiently, there is a large variety of food on display and if you don't fancy anything you can eat out, your choice.
The reception staff I found very helpful and any questions I had, they were dealt with quickly, these are only my own personal experiences, I'm sure other people have their own stories.
My daughter and wife were very happy at the pool, facilities and the bar/cafe were very handy, the staff I dealt with were excellent, Cris, Albert and other workers who I didn't get their names were very good, the food was decent and definitely kept you going during the day depending on the package you paid for.
The rooms were cleaned everyday, the floors mopped, beds made and balcony cleaned, fridge was handy, the missus brought a travel kettle and tea bags, was very handy after a late evening if you fancied a bru, there is a great partnership with the local taxi services, usual price was around 8-9 euro into town, the reception book it and give you a ref number, pretty painless.
We would definitely use the hotel again, especially now we have our bearings and know our way about, as I said earlier, other people have their own experience here, this was ours. I'm sure there are other opinions, but we were very content.

If you're not familiar with Salou I would recommend the tourist train that takes you around the town, pick ups are visible along the route, but go to the street outside MacDonald's on the strip, was a great way to sight see and save the legs.

If you go to the theme park and you have a blue badge go to the special services desk just through the entrance,it has a green logo, there will be a queue, but it will give you express access to all rides without the queues and will be free, we were caught out with two sudden thunderstorms, the heat was brutal but bring those cheap ponchos, buy them online, the theme park charge 8.50, probably won't need them, but just incase.

The Hotel is perfectly placed for the park and shops, but also far enough out to be quiet, our room faced the pool and there was noise from the entertainment, but it's a holiday so who cares, if you didn't fancy going down to the stage you could watch from the balcony,if that's your thing.

No matter where you go or stay I'm sure there are issues, but on this trip we had no hassle, the safe is an extra charge, also the hire of extra large towels, but you will get your deposit back upon return of the items or safe key, bring the receipt they give you, all in all we had a great time and would use it again.

My partner and I have just returned from Salou after 7 days at Sol Costa Daurada. We ended up being very lucky and got a room with a pool view without paying for one. The room was exactly what you would expect for a reasonably-priced hotel in Spain and included all of the facilities that you would need (a fridge, a hairdryer, etc). The balcony had chairs but it would’ve been nice to have a table as well. The room was always spotless as it was cleaned daily, including towels changed and bed made. We opted for breakfast only, which opened from 7:30-10:30 and it was great! We believed that it was catered well to people of all nationalities, including us Brits, who very much enjoyed having the choice of English sausages, bacon, eggs and beans every day / every other day. The pool was definitely a highlight of the hotel for me, it wasn’t too cold or too warm and we enjoyed joining in with the ‘aqua gym’. There are plenty of sun beds around the pool, however not all of them are reclinable, so a lot of people will go out to ‘reserve’ them at 9:00 ish. The pool bar was absolutely brilliant, a good selection of food (e.g. sandwiches, burgers and pizzas), as well as drinks, at good prices, plus the staff were really friendly. The staff at the reception were nice and very helpful as well, especially when it came to checking in / checking out and booking taxis. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Sol Costa Daurada and would be likely to choose this hotel again, if we returned to Salou in the future :)

First time at this lovely hotel, staff are friendly, large and spacious bedrooms, b"fsat and dinner is very good, Plenty of choices for veg n non vegetarian option. We normally gibe our order at reception for dinner and chef prepares vegetarian Pizza, Pasta, rice.. clean hotel and shops nearby. Evening entertainment is good, although all in Spanish! Reception area is large and clean. Outdoor pool and sun bathing is brilliant, Indoor pool and spa open from 1600 to 1900hrs.
Walking distance to port adventure theme park and ferrari land park from hotel approx 15min walk. Hotel is located in quiet location, safe to walk around after dinner and to get to city o shops approx 8 to 10min walk.
I would definitely recommend and return back to thus hotel.

Stayed for a week from 27th May, 2 adults 2 children (10 and 6). Cannot fault the hotel at all, location was great and not overlooked like some more central ones, was clean and tidy, room cleaned every day all staff plesent and helpful.
Our flight was early and we arrived at 11 ish and room not ready until 2, there is a luggage room in reception where you can leave your cases.
We were half board, food changed each night, great if you like a variety of food, we don't like seafood so some nights there was less choice for us but we always found something, and the dessert selection was great. Breakfast was ok, fully stocked bakery, cereals, yoghurts, cheeses and salad etc. Hot selection not to our taste but again we always managed to find something.
10-15 mins walk to the beach and 20 mins or so to Portaventura.
Pool great, no lilos allowed for adults but they didn't mind kids having inflatables and balls etc in shallow end.
Kids enjoyed mini disco at night. Would definitely return 😀

I thought I would spend some time writing up my honest review as a family of 4 of the sol Costa Dorauda, after reading some concerning reviews that made me doubt my selection.

Accommodation
Standard but cleaned daily, I cannot fault how clean the rooms were. Yes there were some little bits that I could complain about such as only two plug sockets were working out of 4, but that wasn’t a big issue for me, I would just charge any devices overnight.
The only negative is that there is definitely not enough space for clothing for a family of 4, we made do by keeping the kids clothes in piles on one of the units and this worked for us.

Food
I cannot believe the bad reviews I have read about the food, I would go as far as saying this is on par with a few of the 5 star hotels I have stayed in over the years if not better.
The food was varied and replenished very quickly, I honestly cannot fault the food.

Staff
Again I have seen reviews that the staff were rude? I did not experience this at all, I honestly don’t know where this has come from, reception, restaurant, pool bar , cleaners, we spoke with them all and they were all very friendly and polite, even the lifeguard spoke.

Facilities
The pool area was fantastic for the children, the lifeguard was asking anyone playing ball games or using a floaty to use them in the shallow end of the pool, this allowed adults wanting to stay away from the chaos the other end of the pool to swim etc. i thought this worked really really well. We were in the shallow end with the children all the time and the atmosphere was great.

Entertainment
Again I saw lots of complaints about the entertainment being in Spanish? I witnessed the entertainment team talking in 4 different languages, if they knew you were English they were repeating everything in English as well as French and Spanish. This really wasn’t an issue, we are after all in Spain.

The entertainment team worked very very hard especially with the kids, my only negative was that they were often late starting, the mini disco was meant to start at 9pm but it was often not starting until 15/20 mins later and whilst this sounds relatively small, when you have children waiting it can feel like a very long time.
We saw two shows which were not run by the hotel’s entertainment team and they were great. The entertainment in my opinion caters for all and if it wasn’t for the lateness I couldn’t really complain at all.

Location
This worked perfectly for us, it was a maximum 15 min walk to the beach or a 15min walk to PortAventura, we had the tickets as part of our package and I would recommend this, we had an awesome time

if I decide to visit salou again in the future I would 100% stay here, the staff, location and food alone make this a perfect hotel.

The location of this hotel is good, not too far from beach and porta ventura, the bar staff in the pool area were lovely, always smiling and food in pool bar not too bad. Hotel rooms very basic but clean, that's the positives out the way.....no air conditioning in room, we could not sleep as it was too hot to be in any way comfortable. Indoor staff rude and look like they hate there jobs, if you are going to breakfast or dinner don't forget your piece of paper with your room number on it or you will be snarled.at and given a lecture!! Our first night there my son who has autism was mentally and physically drained from the overwhelming day travelling so chose to stay in his room rather than face the busyness of the restaurant, my husband and I went to dinner and explained the situation and seeing as we had paid for dinner in advance asked politely if in this circumstance may we have a small box to take food to the room for him? This was met with a stern no. The food itself was bland, cold, undercooked at the so called chefs station. Water must be paid for, I thought this would be a basic essential in a buffet!! Indoor staff including reception staff need training in what hospitality is, if you can't even congour up a smile you're in the wrong job.
