stayed for 4 nights & had a good experience overall.Moderate distance to downtown area by car (~10 miles) but decent rate. Good location for visiting NASA Space center & flying to Hobby airport as they are both south of the city. Typical breakfast for this class hotel consisting of cold cereal/waffles/juice/packaged oatmeal & donuts. Didn't use the pool-there was a computer in the lobby that clerk said wasn't working & didn't mention anything about it being fixed.
I chose it because I was planning on flying out on the 3rd day and it was close to the rental cars and it was not so expensive as all the others. Everything was clean and not too many guest either. Grounds were clean. I did not eat breakfast but did have coffee which tasted bad, not very flavored. Huge sign in the breakfast area saying do not take food to the room, which was strange to me because there was a microwave and refrigerator in the room. The door did not close well and kept having to really make sure it was closed and there was no safety latch. My tv remote did not work so a trip back to the office. Staff were nice and gave me another one. They changed the Internet code so another trip back to the office. The place was quiet and clean. Not crazy about it.
I really would like to leave a good review for this hotel since the managers are so friendly. They try hard to please. But, a great review would be inaccurate since the hotel definitely needs to improve. I have stayed at this Econolodge twice in the past two weeks. The first time was fine- while simple and no-frills, my room was clean and comfortable. So I booked again for another one-night stay a few weeks later. This time, the room that they gave me had a toilet that leaked. When I called the front desk, they moved me to another room. This second was room also was in disrepair. Three lightbulbs were burnt out and the refrigerator didn’t work. While most of the room was clean, there were spots on the bathroom wall that looked like dried blood! Yikes! In spite of this, I kept this room since the manager told me that it was the last one available. At 4:00 AM, some drunk guy started banging on my door. While this can happen anywhere, it didn’t help my impression of the Econolodge. While I understand that Econolodges are cheap, and I don’t expect fancy accommodations, I do think that all rooms should be clean and in good working order! This hotel has a decent rating, but still needs work to really earn a favorable review! Needless to say, I won’t stay here again.…
We stayed in this Econolodge after already almost 3 weeks of hotels from the same chain... This one is more in the class of a Rodeway Inn than Econolodge... Though, the pool is nice and we were alone in it... so, we had fun playing with a ball ;-) Though, careful... ball can fly to the street....
While doing a 3 month roadtrip, we've stayed in several EconoLodge motels and so can confidently report that this one is below standard. While everything in the room worked, it was obvious maintenance was lacking - wall tiles off bathroom wall, power point dangerously loose in wall, toilet cemented in place with a lack of neatness, and a cockroach infestation (3 sighted in our room over 3 days). The owners, Choice Hotels, should review this franchise.
