My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the historical Alcalde Hotel. The hotel is very clean, the beds are very comfortable and the hot breakfast is plentiful. We appreciated how the manager, Donald Page, made us feel welcome and gave us excellent information on the history of Gonzalez and the surrounding area. The town is quaint with many reasonably priced antique stores.
Very tasty buffet, with excellent service. All the ribeye steaks, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and fruit salad you can eat for $10.95! Spacious and clean rest rooms. Central location in Gonzales, with convenient nearby parking.
Booked on spur of the moment, and I made a great choice. Clean, comforatable room, great bed. Wonderful old building, central to whatever you might wish to do. Included not only breakfast, but dinner.Nothing fancy, but good food, well prepared. So many extras-- free bottled water, soda, tea, coffee, snacks. cookies, cake. The man running the hotel was fantastic! Called us by name, gave great recommendations, even offered to prepare different food to accomodate dietary needs. Even offered lunch one day when he saw us ! I cannot say enough nice things about him. Made the stay more like a bed and breakfast. Would stay again and heartily recommend.
If you're looking for historical, family oriented, large spacious rooms, hot meals and comfortable surroundings look no further!! This place is a step back in time with everything we needed today as well. Hot dinner and a hot breakfast in the dining room are complimentary with your room or save them the hassle and let them know you're dining out. The staff is knowledgable and eager to share the history of this hotel as well as the town and special places to see, or even offer local vendors names and directions if you need specific assistance for whatever reason. Curbside parking out front or a nice large parking lot in back of the building. Have I mentioned Bonnie and Clyde stayed here or that Elvis stayed here? Oh but they were all once patrons as well! I have had the pleasure of staying in a king room and in a 2 bedroom king suite, both of which I cannot complain. I look forward to my next visit and yes, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AS YOUR FIRST CHOICE to stay...elevator available but the original stairs, well, they're just not too steep and are the old fashioned wooden from long ago...I simply cannot resist frequently using them.…
We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite for 2 nights. It was very comfortable and spacious. The beds were great! We made good use of the mini kitchen. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. My husband loved the waffle maker at breakfast! The hotel is beautiful. We used the lobby and stairwell for indoor pictures Family Photo Shoot. We walked over to the courthouse for outdoor shots. Our photographer was very pleased with the lovely settings.
