The Tremont House Hotel garners praise for its historic charm and inviting atmosphere, with live music and elegant decor that captivate guests. It's situated in an excellent location in the Strand, ideal for exploring downtown Galveston. While the spacious rooms with modern amenities are generally appreciated, some travelers mention noise and cleanliness issues.

Detailed Reviews
Nuts and Bolts: great service, well-staffed, very clean, high ceilings, comfortable beds, room service available but was difficult to get through during peak times. Lobby bar with reasonable prices, there is a piano player on the weekends in the atrium, plenty of private seating in the atrium, walkable and one block from the strand, about 4 blocks from the pier, no pool, valet parking, large closets with floor-length mirror, good water pressure and very hot water, bathtub/shower combo. The bathtub was larger than most, but not big enough for 2, towel warmers in the bathrooms were a nice touch. AC works great if you don't mess with the settings and leave it on Auto, the rooftop bar is nice at night even in August the breeze kept us cool. There are not any blackout curtains, only shutters on the windows. So if sunlight wakes you up, bring eyeshades. I like to bring my firestick but the TVs are bolted down so we couldn't reach the HDMI port, but they had all the HBOs so we didn't suffer, free wifi.
We had a great weekend away. The staff was very accommodating and polite. The valet never made us wait and they always had 2 valets and a doorman at the front. The neighborhood is amazing and you can walk to most of the historic cities in Galveston as well as the port. This would not have been a good place to bring kids as there is no pool and you are not close to the beach. We wanted a romantic couples weekend and had a great time. The atrium is beautiful and the prices are reasonable at the bar. they had a piano player and we enjoyed sitting in the atrium with our drinks listening. I needed a fridge for medications and they had one waiting for me (which isn't normally the case in most places.) It was clean and quiet. The rooms are very large and the beds are comfortable. The AC worked fine once I figured out I had accidentally set it to just blow air lol. Keep the AC on Auto... trust me. We tried to call room service an hour before checkout and couldn't get through. I suppose everyone had the same idea as us. But we had a lovely brunch before we left and Jiji our server was great. They also let us check in early without a charge. We drove in from San Antonio and I just wanted to leave our bags at the desk but our room was ready.

We were there for three nights and loved the location. Everything is well maintained, the staff was excellent, their rooftop bar is fun, their cafe served great food with large portions at a reasonable price. Our room was quiet, the bed comfortable, no complaints whatsoever. Be aware that street parking is available, but you must prepay and print the ticket from the corner park-pay machines. They do patrol. We'll be back.

The hotel is amazing and absolutely beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The entire hotel was sparkling. The location is perfect as we parked our car (valet parking is very reasonable) and walked to many restaurants, the Strand and visited the Oil Well Museum. You must visit the rooftop bar as it is a lovely place to have a drink and look out over the city.
My only complaint was the room we were given was NOT what is pictured in the website. I have stayed in this hotel before (2 queen room), and it was huge, with sofa and two large windows. It was this reason that I chose this hotel again. However, this time we were given a "small" room with one window that was too small to even open the shutters to look out. The hotel was only about half full so I know that is now the reason we were given a small room. Also, when I asked at the desk, she said I didn't get the larger room with the sofa because I hadn't ask for it??? I made the reservations 2 months in advance, directly through the hotel, so not sure who gets the larger rooms? She did say it was same price.
So hotel is amazing; rooms, inconsistent and not as pictured online.

Just left The Tremont House after staying 1 week. Let me start out by saying it's a great place for a 1 or 2 night stay. Anything longer than that, you'd be better off elsewhere. The location is great. Had many things I was unhappy with for the money we spent. The rooms are small and awkwardly arranged. Couldn't watch TV from the bed comfortably, due to an obstructed view by a section of wall beside the bed. Had to prop the TV wardrobe door open, with the trash can, to keep it from closing to watch. There were several nights when street noise disturbed our sleep. Be advised to stay away from rooms located in the front of the building, if you don't want that problem. The outdoor patio furniture that's used for seating in the room is not comfortable for long term sitting. After 10 minutes, the wicker arms were cutting off my circulation. They also don't offer much back support. Started getting a backache after about a half hour of sitting in the thing.
When I called to report the bathroom towel warmer sprung a leak and wasn't working, I was surprisingly informed that it wasn't supposed to work at all. The poor tech that came to fix it was under the impression that they didn't function and had no idea how to fix it. Maintenance wound up wrapping towels around the wet base pipes and said they'd come back later to permanently repair. Had an electrical socket literally hanging out of the bedside wall. It was rather scary and dangerous looking. Was afraid to use it, although the clock radio was plugged into it. The AC kept cycling between blowing cold and hot air. There was no way to shut it off completely. Also, there is no microwave or refrigerator in the room so if you want to keep and reheat restaurant leftovers, that is not an option in the Deluxe King room (#352). My guess is you'll have to be in a suite to get those.
Housekeeping staff Eloisa and James were awesome, as well as the doormen, restaurant, rooftop bar and front desk personnel. If you're staying more than a night or two, please steer clear of this place. Your wallet and your back will thank you. All-in-all, it was a sub-par 4 star hotel experience.

Don't stay here if you actually want to sleep. Check your bill, they overcharge, make sure you pay attention that the confirmation email matches the bill.
Too loud late at night, and wee hours of the morning. Sleeping in the room was awful with all the shouting and singing coming from the bar just below us. It is that reason that I wouldn't recommend your hotel unless you are there to drink the night away

The Tremont House was recently bought and is undergoing remodeling. After being a guest at the Tremont (old name) for over 25 years when visiting family, I stayed this past week and was very disappointed with the guest room. Gone are the gorgeous drapes and black and white wallpaper as seen in the pictures. The black and white tile Art Deco style bath was redone with the same grey paint as bedroom. Bath vanity was replaced with a pedestal sink with no light over the mirror. Putting on makeup in the dark was a chore as there was not a mirror in the bedroom. Sorry to say the delight in opening the door to the beautiful Victorian decor was replaced with a so-so me-too drab could be anywhere hotel room. I'll still stay there for the location, but it's no longer the treasure it was. On the other hand, every single member of the staff was outgoing, hospitable, friendly and helpful.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We want all of our guests to have a positive experience. We are in the middle of a transformative restoration and we are patiently awaiting the new vanity's for the bathrooms, several different light fixtures for the hotel, new custom furnishings, and the beautiful art that will be sure to brighten up each guest room. We are also restoring the public spaces, putting in an elevator that will take you directly to The Rooftop Bar, and elevating the meeting rooms and the Tremont Ballroom. There are so many absolutely stunning pieces of décor that will arrive in July. We hope you get a chance to come back and experience it. Hope to see you again soon!

Room was okay but they will charge you 20 $ extra per night for parking your car , ice maker wasn’t working I had to go buy ice from Walmart . They charged me 350 for 2 night but breakfast wasn’t even included. I had to pay extra for breakfast. Rooftop bar was the only reason I picked this hotel which was closed . Overall I think 2 start is good enough.

I met up with a childhood friend to have a getaway and enjoy a wonderful, historic seaside hotel. It all started well, but our check-in experice, where both of our reservation were on separate days. The clerk was so unfriendly and unhelpful. She manged to get my friend rebooked because her reservation was in the future, but when it came to my reservation which had been booked in the past things went further downhill. I had to insist that she contact someone to see what they could do, my card had already been charged $180+ and she said I would have to pay again and sort it out the next day. As both of our respective vacations had been incorretly booked, I felt that the onus was on them to sort it out right away. The straw was having the clerk mutter something under her breath. I really felt like I had stepped through to another dimension to be treated so poorly. After, and only after I had become upset, but not rude, did she make a call and get everthing straightened out. Just like that, problem solved, but at the expense of my excitement of meeting up with an old friend in a fabulous hotel.
The hotel itself is fabulous with a gorgeous atrium, rooms with sky-high ceilings and French windows. The beds were very comfortable and I love a bathroom with a bathtub! Everyone else at the hotel was so friendly and kind. The food in the cafe was good and the rooftop bar is worth an evening visit. The clerk who was on duty for our checkout was so firendly and heard my complaints with empathy, it made up for the check in experience, however, the missed oppertunity to give a great guest experience, despite booking glithches was missed.
We valeted our rental car for $20 a night, but it also allowed us to park at The Galvez right next to the beach without an extra charge. While The Galvez is a grander hotel, there was just something magical about The Treamont House that was special.
Without the ghastly checkin experience, I this woudl have been a 5 star review.

This is an elegant hotel in the heart of the historic downtown of Galveston. Easy walking distance to the Strand, the seaport, several historic sites and countless restaurants and shops. Parking is by valet but there are garages and street parking available as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is in the midst of a total renovation project starting on the top (4th) floor. Our room was on the 2nd floor so was not yet renovated. Nonetheless it was very comfortable and well appointed. Plenty of hanging space in the closet, an armoire with generous drawers and large nightstands on either side of the bed with multiple charging ports on both. T hotel room had a safe and coffee maker but no microwave. The nightstand clock had brightness settings but was incomprehensible to set. The bathroom had very bright lights on either side of the large mirror. Deficits in the bathroom that one assumes will be addressed with the remodel:
1. No fan for ventilation just a passive vent
2. The tub/shower shower head was positioned too low. I’m only 6’1” and had to really duck down to wash my hair.
3. not enough towel bars although the one there was heated.
4. we would have appreciated a wall mounted lighted shaving/makeup mirror.
There was however one major problem with our stay. Our room opened via a Juliet balcony onto an atrium where a bar was located on the main floor. So we were serenaded by various musicians both live and recorded along with noise from loud bar patrons until around 10pm on a Thursday night. Friday night the bar crowd was in full swing until almost 1am even though the bar was supposed to close at midnight. We mentioned this problem to Natalie at the front desk. She arranged for us to have a different room (actually an upgraded room with 2 queen beds at no additional cost ) for our last night that was perfectly quiet. Her professionalism and pleasantness in taking care of this was greatly appreciated. As it turned out that room had a light out over the shower and neither the TV or the AC was functioning in that room. But the hotel responded immediately when we called and had two maintenance people up there within 5 minutes and they resolved all these issues for us quickly. So we were very pleased overall with assistance we received during our stay.
There is a cafe open all day starting with breakfast and a rooftop bar which was very nice and comfortable. I’m sure once the remodeling project is complete the inconveniences we will experienced will no longer be an issue.

Debated for days whether I should say anything or not... here it goes.
My husband & I decided to take a few days off work last week to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary!!
Hotel is clean/nice/convenient. Valet is quick & always there to open the front door.
Restaurants/bars in walking distance & rooftop bar was pricy/cool but no pool.
We stayed in a corner master suite room# 206. (I think that is what they called it)
Anyway...corner bedroom lamp kept coming on & turning off all by itself in the daytime/nighttime & even after we unplugged it!! Now I am the believer in this stuff my husband isn't & he witnessed the most.
Lastly around 3 a.m. there was a super loud Tarzan scream right above our heads in bed. We both jumped up/looked around & could not figure out what just happened. It was so loud. Like a big speaker was on the bed. You know how you can hear a crackle in the background when a speaker is turned on loud with nothing playing, well that was it - during & after the Tarzan scream there was a white noise crackle. No our phones do not have a Tarzan ringtone, the TV was off & no there wasn’t a radio in the room.
Nothing touched us, I did not see any shadow figures & we were not hurt in any way shape or form. Cannot figure it all out - stumped.
I think that room is haunted. My husband thinks the room is rigged to make people think it is haunted. I seriously doubt that!!
Can’t wait to go back 😊
My husband & I decided to take a few days off work last week to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary!!
