The San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center is renowned for its inviting spa services, lively atmosphere with live music, and exceptional service that guests frequently commend for the staff's professionalism. Nestled on a prime beachfront, the location offers easy access to the sea and dining options, with travelers often noting the clean facilities that contribute to a pleasant stay. However, opinions are mixed regarding the rooms, which range from spacious and well-equipped to instances of cleanliness concerns and dated decor. Despite the praise for amenities and atmosphere, some guests feel the value proposition is diminished by the resort's high pricing structure.

Our little Stay-Cation at the San Luis Resort was perfect in every way! The valets were convivial and helpful and never rushed us. Our check-in hostess was the epitome of a five-star employee. She got us discounted tickets to Pleasure Pier and left macaw stuffed toys for the kids in our room while we were gone. When we discovered the kids forgot their toothbrushes, the hotel ran some up in less than five minutes. Room service for breakfast was extensive, delicious, hot, and delivered with flair. The heated pool felt divine, and the service was some of the best we’ve ever had: prompt and intuitive. Thank you, San Luis Resort, for such an amazing experience!

From the time we arrived we experienced excellent service, courteous professional staff, quality amenities, and delicious dining.
The location is centrally located and facilitates efficient logistics to any venues in the area.
The fact every room has a balcony with a beach side view only enhances the ambience established on arrival by the staff and facilities.

Had a great visit to the SL condos. Went straight to the Cove upon arrival, Angelica makes some great drinks! First night dinner at the Steakhouse, of course, had to have the lobster Mac and cheese with my New York Strip. Jimmy is a great waiter, welcome back Daniel. John Paul and Joe run a first class operation. Had lunch each day in the Blake’s Bistro, the club sandwich or Cobb salad are great and very filling. Amanda and Yuliia will take great care of you. Nights were spent in The Bar listening to the outstanding music of Bernard and Brent. Bartenders Vance and Carlos are real mixmasters and Madi made sure my glass was never empty. The Grotto has great food, I love the San Luis Veal and Vic & Anthony’s Crab Cakes. Stacy will take great care of you and Anthenia makes a tasty red sangria. Congrats to Korry, the new Grotto manager. Bad news, Jared is no longer a bartender, good news he got promoted to manager! The Big Boss was constantly present helping out during the busy times, that’s called leadership! Lastly, all staff were wearing MASKs and if appropriate, Gloves. Tables constantly being sanitized. They are taking the virus seriously, but it doesn’t prevent you from enjoying yourself.

Pros- The grounds are beautiful, the staff is very nice. Feels like a resort. Great views of the ocean. Just across the street from the gulf, and close to many things like Pleasure Pier, etc. Of course, this is a fairly small town, so almost anything on Seawall is close to everything.
Cons- Very expensive, our first night was $550, the next 2 nights were $450. They added in a resort fee for $10 a night, and parking fee, even though we self parked, at $10 a night. The rooms are very small, but the beds are very comfortable. There isn't room for a table to eat on, just a cabinet with a TV, 2 beds, and a chair next to the bed. Small fridge, but it would't cool until we opened the cabinet and pulled it out a few inches. No microwave, but they offered to rent one for $10 a day. At $550 a day, I would think there would be one in the room. The bathroom was really small. The door is just a sliding glass door and can't be locked. Also, no exhaust fan. Not ideal when you have a family of 4. The balcony has a great view but is very small. Just enough room for a couple of chairs. We stayed on the side overlooking the pool. The noise from the commercial air conditioners drowned out the ocean entirely, and we were on the 14th floor. The pool is nice, but the water slide is not there now. Almost no shade, unless you rent a cabana. They have a swim up bar and the staff is very nice, but the drinks are really expensive. I guess the underlying theme is that we paid top dollar and that didn't buy much. The maids also only come when you move out unless you call them and need towels or something delivered. Self parking was in the back of the hotel, it felt weird going in a rear building entrance. Finally, there is only one pool and it was fairly crowded even with the hotel being nowhere near at capacity. There were never more than 30 cars in the parking lot, nor was Valet full. I don't know what it would be like if the hotel was full. They should probably have a 'Covid discount' that accounts for lack of maid and room service. We came here for our anniversary and enjoyed our stay but probably will look elsewhere next time.

Beware of staying here as the valet parking is not secure, the rooms are not as advertised and the desk staff is curt / rude (yes you Valerie). I stayed at the San Luis Resort on May 30-31, 2020. I gave my Porsche Cayenne to the hotel valet for overnight parking and when I called for the car the next morning, I found out both my rear tires had been slashed and I needed to call a tow truck to get back to my home in Houston. Turns out the valet had parked my car in the hotel’s outside parking lot (???!). I spoke to Thomas (security) and John (head of security) and was told they would check the video camera and that the hotel’s corporate risk dept would call me to take care of this. I never received a follow up call, so a week later I called and spoke to Linda in Landry’s corporate office. Linda said Landry’s didn’t carry insurance for damage to hotel guest cars and that I needed to pay the costs myself or file a claim for reimbursement with my insurance. Landry’s was unwilling to pay for any of the damage to my car and related costs while my car was in THEIR possession in a supposed secure area with purported video surveillance. I’m highly skeptical they had any video surveillance or security patrols of the entire lot. Thanks Landry’s for my $1,000+ of incremental costs on my trip for tows, taxis, new tires.

Also, beware of the room type you book and related rates. I booked a “club level” room which was ~$100 / night more than the next level down room due to the advertised snacks, coffee, breakfast, cocktails and so forth in the common area of the floor. NONE of this is available. After arguing with the desk manager (curt / rude Valerie) to reduce our rate, she finally gave us a room credit and passes exchangeable for morning breakfast and coffee.

Nice hotel, but valet parking is not secure and the service and amenities aren’t up to par for a $500/night hotel. Some of staff could use another session in customer service training.

I can understand that hotels have reducedz
housekeeping staff because of hotel social distancing policies. However, if a hotel is open for business and accepting customers, it should do all it can to ensure that their customers are safe and residing in a healthy environment. Not so with this aging luxury hotel. We were moved 3 times as we discovered each room to be very dirty. The floors and carpets were littered with food crumbs and flakes of paper from previous tenants. There were dead bugs and crawling roaches who chased us from each room. Management was aware and apologized citing no housekeeping. The pool was crowded with people in the water and packed in lounge chair seating. People came and went without masks. Some customers were surly and refused to wear masks when requested by staffers. In one room, we could not lock the patio door and a maintenance person told us that the lock holes were not aligned. He then stepped on a large roach completely horrifyingly our daughter. Venders accept only credit cards or room charges citing the dangers of handling items yet give you a pen used by a previous customer or you have to type a computer keyboard also previously used. They don't wipe anything. There is no caution expressed in any form by hotel management or staff. They are simply using this pandemic to be cheap.

We were given a room on the 14th floor that had a dirty toilet seat and a wet cloth in the sink. There was a layer of dust on the counters as well. When we complained to the front desk they did the right thing and moved us to a room on the Penthouse floor along with 2 free continental breakfasts for each day we were there. It was a lot better and cleaner. The problem was that when you use the shower, there's such a large gap under the shower door that there was water all over the floor. Not just a few splashes, more like a large puddle. After that we shoved a towel under the door to keep that from happening again. The tiles inside the shower had mold and mildew in the grout and on ceiling outside of shower, which was gross. There wasalso an occasional smell of sewer gas around the toilet area.

The pool was nice except when I walked around the pool area and lounge chairs bare-footed, I had all kinds of crap (dirt, tiny paper, leaves, etc.) stuck to my feet. I'm thinking a little power wash could have solved that problem, but what do I know.

We made a reservation at the Grotto for dinner one night. Had a great server ("Barton") who was very accommodating and made sure we were taken care of. We ordered desert to bring back to our room. But when we got the check, we noticed a .45 "To Go" charge after having spent $100 on our meal. Really? How incredibly petty is that? They could have just added it to the price of the dessert and I never would have known and this wouldn't have even been an issue.

The whole hotel really needs updating and a deep cleaning, that's for sure.

It had been too long since my last visit to the San Luis. Three friends and I decided to get away from Houston for the weekend. We loaded up our bikes and headed to the Island for a getaway weekend. At valet, we were greeted by Pablo who generously offered to help unload and assemble our bikes, as well as assist with the luggage and stowing the car. His attitude and cheery conversation set the tone for the weekend. Remodeling of the lobby and rooms gave everything a refreshed and uplifting appearance. And the staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. It was nice to be welcomed back by some of the same staff that had welcomed me before. After having one of the best spa experiences in my recent memory, we holed up in the room, ordered room service, and enjoyed each other's company and watched the grammies. We ordered room service from Grotto and I must compliment them on a really nice dining experience. Everything you could have asked for in the restaurant but experienced in our room. The server seemed especially accommodating and brought our salad in advance of the entrees. All in all, a very pleasant experience and accomplished just what we were looking for.

The best part about the San Luis is the restaurants. Food is delicious, and wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. We splurged on “Club 10” since it was our first getaway (we’re from DFW) since COVID hit. NOT worth the money, club 10 or not. Every linen I touched had hair on it, even after asking for new blankets. Our room was full of gnats and drain flies, constantly felt damp, and the bed was pretty uncomfortable. The staff would start banging and slamming doors aggressively to clean at 730am, so there was little chance of sleeping in. We stayed Sunday through Wednesday with very little crowding but still were removed from our chairs by the pool as they were “reserved”, though no one occupied them for the rest of the day after we were asked to move.

Do not recommend! Find somewhere where your $300-$400 a night will go MUCH further.

It's a nice hotel, the pool area is pretty, with friendly staff, private cabanas, and just across from the beach. The room TV was big screen with modern interface and streaming services, but with limited premium channels. Bottled water was provided in the room and by the elevators. We ate in the steakhouse and felt a bit judged, with other guests receiving better service. Maybe we should have dressed up a bit more? Main issue was the cost, probably twice the price of anywhere else in Galveston, but it didn't feel like it. Having to line up five deep because there is only one desk clerk on at prime check in time when there are other people in the back. set an annoying start to the stay along with all the lectures and threats about Covid and smoking in the room which constitutes the welcome. My one night stay was prepaid in full and yet they took $120 off me at check in including $20 for parking and 'resort' fee, Why don't they increase the room rate to include mandatory charges like this? If the answer is "because people wouldn't book if they knew the real price", well....you may be right.

Dear Simon, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We want to take the time to apologize for any inconvenience that you experienced. Each team member strives to make you feel comfortable and cared for throughout your time with us. You have my word, I will look into your particular set of circumstances. Regarding the check in process, It may take a little longer to check in because we have been force to make some adjustments as we move forward during the pandemic. Our pricing structure has very competitive prices with an array of amenities to enhance and compliment the quality of your stay. Regarding the parking fee & resort fee, you shared a good suggestion. However, we have multiple options for parking therefore we extend an opportunity for the guest to decide which parking option that is preferred. The resort fee is very reasonable considering it is a standard fee for most resort type properties. Sincerely, Philett Carter-Wilson Director of Guest Relations San Luis Resort
