While the hotel is within easy reach for ferry and breakfast of fairly good standard. Most of the staff seem very helpful. However biggest concerned that management do not believe you when you say something in room not working properly ie my toilet contacted them while staying and again when got home seems all my fault. Worst part not even an apology just dismissed as staff saying it was working but it did need a bit but could not
Get till Monday 3 days later when I was leaving
Spoilt what was a lovely time in Orkney

Had a really nice meal here. Think its the only restaurant and great stop over while waiting for the ferry. Only let down was the gents toilet . Needs a bit of a upgrade, but spotless and still has seperate hot and cold taps!

Stayed for 5 nights over the excellent Orkney Blues festival. The location and views are wonderful. It's an old hotel but our room was clean, beds exceptionally comfortable. Room facilities all good. Tea and coffee replenished daily. Room was lovely and warm especially after a bracing walk! Lovely to come back to. Lovely friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast covered the usual cooked breakfast and cereals, toast yogurt and fruit. All self service from heated trays but good quality. Scrambled eggs nice and light and fluffy. We didn't eat in the restaurant but the food looked great. Overall no complaints. We really enjoyed our stay.

We came to Orkney late pm on ferry, had a full day to tour, and left the next early am. So we wanted something convenient for ferry. the hotel is the first building off the ferry pier, lol. Despite this, it is very quiet! it's nice to see the water activity from your window, and there was no sound from it at all. The hotel is great as a historic building w/ all the right amenities. We handed in laundry at 9pm and it was brought back before we left at 8:30am. Food in restaurant was great and was the first time we didn't need a reservation in Scotaland. The bar attached on ground floor was a wonderful local treasure. We saw Stomness but not during business hours as we went to all the major sites: Maeshowe, Yesneby Cliffs, Skara Brae, Rings of Brognar, and went to Kirkwall to see the Churchill Barracades, Italian Chapel, Highland Brewery (make a reservation!), and more. Especially if you are making a short visit to Orkney, we HIGHLY recommend staying at the Stromness Hotel for total efficiency w/ the ferry and making the most of your time on the island.

PS we drove. parking in front was easy, and there is parking in back. Driving seemed key to us for seeing sites on Orkney.

came for the food and how close to the ferry they were. Hubby wants to come back and stay here. The Victorian décor is lovely and the food good. The only thing was the waitress asked my hubby if he was done and he said yes so she took his and mine even though I wasn't quite done. But we would still come back.
Thank Doreen J

Sarah. I don't know the answer to your question. I would imagine it would be no ( unless guide or hearing dog) I will ask my cousin who works there. Maybe management will see this and clarify with you.
