Very much a curates egg. The basics are there but my room really wasn’t up to modern standards. The bed was fine but the furniture was definitely on the shabby side of shabby chic. Equally the bathroom, well due for a makeover, a small electric powered shower doesn’t cut the mustard these days. There were obvious signs of a bit of touching up of the paintwork but a proper redecoration was needed. Why have a bedside lamp when there is no available plug? My room bore no resemblance to the advertisement pictures. The public areas were Okay but again some redecoration wouldn’t come amiss in some areas. No complaints about the food or staff, all was fine. So, in sum, a decent enough spot but certainly my bedroom was in dire need of a makeover. Would I return, yes but would ask for a much improved room.…
We stayed in The Ducks in for one night only ……thankfully . The bedroom was adequate , small but clean and comfortable . No bedside table on my side of the bed . The bathroom was inadequate , very tired , chipped paint , grubby tiles/grouting and very dated . The toilet seat was a different colour to the toilet , did not fit the toilet correctly at all and did not stay upright to my partner’s dismay . Apparently, many rooms have been updated , not ours and the price is the same in each ! We didn’t use the shower , we just couldn’t face it . At £170 for one night this is extortion !! If you choose to stay at the Ducks Inn , make sure you ask for a room which has been updated.
Great place to stay, right in the heart of so many great golf courses. We stayed for 4 nights. We had evening meal a couple of nights that we stayed and the food was excellent. Breakfast was good too. Rooms were clean and tidy. It really is a great place for golfers with the barstool challenge and also the putting challenge. Also a dartboard to have a few games on there. They do have a small car park round the back of the property but you can also park on the road on the front with no problems. Overall very good. We will defo be back again!!
During our recent annual championship tour our party of 20 golfers had the privilege of dining in the Ducks Inn and were not disappointed. The dining experience was very enjoyable, especially the steaks. Malcolm and his team were very welcoming and friendly. We also thoroughly enjoyed the famous bar stool putting challenge! All things considered we had a great meal and will definitely include the 'Ducks' when we return to East Lothian. Highly recommended.
Stayed while on a golf trip with seven others. Perfect spot to stay for golf in Aberlady, Gullane, North Berwick or Dunbar. Too far to play St Andrews courses from here. Rooms are comfortable, good beds plenty of hot water. No elevator, so if you’ve got large/heavy bags be aware. Restaurant is fantastic. Food we had at Duck’s was the equal of any we had anywhere, and we ate in some great restaurants. Pub is also wonderful. Again beware; if you’re looking for a quiet country inn, this perhaps is not it. Bar is frequently full of golfers from all over the world enjoying conversation and beverages. Often at elevated volume. Staff is all beyond compare. Felt completely at home; everyone was friendly and wonderful, especially the man himself, Malcom Duck. Highly recommended; A++
Room 38 has the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. Fantastic room. Great hotel and staff very friendly. Breakfast good, choice could be better e.g. smoked haddock. Evening meal excellent. We love Aberlady and will return to this hotel. Good base for golf
Recently stayed for 3 nights bed breakfast and evening meal as part of a golf package arranged by the hotel. The trip was most enjoyable and all arranged, including tee times, by the Duck's Inn which helps greatly when travelling from abroad. The hotel is excellent value, breakfast was great, and dinner each evening was even better!! The food is excellent!! All the staff were helpful and good fun and we will certainly return next year. We have so many nearby golf courses still left to play. If you are looking to golf in East Lothian, this hotel is very well located and I would highly recommend. Thanks to Malcolm, Ros, and the staff for a very memorable 3 days.
Beautiful house with a great host Mr. Duck. I really enjoyed the stay and have nothing to complain about. Beautiful and quiet rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was excellent and the service was perfect. Great drinks and food selection. Also a great pub with lots of history and golf flair. Highly recommended if you are in the area. There is free parking behind the building. Also ideal for groups traveling together.
We enjoyed our stay yesterday. The family room (a double and adjoining room with bunk beds) was great. The boys loved having their own space. We had an enjoyable drink in the bar and a fantastic meal in the restaurant. The food was of excellent quality, well presented and tasted amazing. All the staff we encountered were lovely and friendly. Breakfast this morning was relaxing and again the food was fab. We'd definitely recommend the Ducks Inn and we look forward to visiting again in the future.
Recent overnight stay and we had a great time. Room clean if a little dated but that it part of the charm. Would give dinner and staff 5 star. The roasted cod dish with muscle sauce and Bulgar wheat was delicious. Fantastic quality sweets too. Great atmosphere in the bar too. Would definitely return.
