Our room and bathroom were clean and the beds comfortable. The hotel is situation in the centre of St Peter Port and so we could walk to most things we wanted to see and the high street was 1 minutes walk from the hotel. Having said that, the location was quiet at night so sleeping was no problem. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and the food was very good and the service was efficient. We found the staff to be very friendly and willing to help. Really can't fault our 4 night stay and would be happy to return and to recommend.
Once again entirely satisfied with the Duke, staff very friendly and efficient, room excellent, food good! Would definitely recommend the hotel, and looking forward to going back again in August with my son and grandson. Graham W
Just back from a 5 night stay at The Duke of Normandie in Guernsey. The location of the hotel in St Peter Port is nice and central ... bit of a hike up the hill...so not so good if you have a wheel chair or mobility issues (There is a very small car park at the hotel). We stayed in Room 19 right at the top of the stairs. The room was quite small but had the usual fridge, kettle etc (Be careful when you open the fridge door as you pull the entire fridge off the shelf as it's not fixed in any way). Bed linen was nice and clean as was the bathroom which has a nice walk in shower. The flat roof right next to our bathroom/bedroom window was being replaced so we could not open the blinds in the bathroom when the workmen were doing their thing. Some noise from the works but not too bad (It would have been nice for the hotel to inform us, in advance, of the works ...) Staff were very friendly but be aware that room service including towel change etc. is 'at request' therefore we had a couple of trips to reception to obtain more tea bags, milk, toilet rolls etc....could have phoned down to reception but easier to just fetch the items ourselves. The only real complaint that we have is with the breakfast... Coffee was cold, we had a latte and flat white...we did ask for another but we are convinced that the original drinks were just microwaved to within a degree of boiling and then given back to us...the Latte was just like a flat white when we got it back. My wife ordered eggs benedict which was perfect. I ordered a full English...beans were cold, mushroom was not cooked, bacon was anaemic and the sausage was not even warm/cooked...not a hint of browning ... scrambled eggs were good. I guess that I should have complained but we had a busy day ahead of us and just wanted to get on . We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel again during our stay. All in all pretty good value when you compare the nightly rates with other hotels in Guernsey... staff were very polite and 'happy'. Just one other thing,,, the outdoor seating/drinking/dining area has so much potential but it's a mess, clearly not 'owned' by anybody within the hotel staff. Planters have been filled with lovely flowers and shrubs but they are all dead...the automatic watering system is just lying on the floor broken and in bits. It's just a smoking area for guests that smoke, ashtrays full of butt ends on all tables...not nice at all.…
Great location - literally off the High Street up a steep side alley and only 10mins walk from the bus terminus. Take one of the fast buses from the airport, only 20mins to Saint Peter Port. The main selling point is the location. I booked a mini single and was aware the room would be very compact, however according to the website the room had a lot of facilities, which suited my needs. Unfortunately the room I was in (number 25) did not have the things listed. No bathrobes, in-room safe (I asked housekeeping about these as they were in the corridor and they said bathrobes weren’t provided and also didn’t know anything about a safe), DVD player or iPod Docking station. Thankfully I didn’t spend a lot of time in the room, but it would have still been nice to have the facilities advertised. It is advertised as a mini room great for overnight business travellers, but it should also say for petite people as the bathroom is very small. Sitting on the toilet your leg is also touching the sink. My shower also had a faulty door (installed backwards so opening into the shower and potentially scraping against your body to close/open the door) - I would think this would have been obvious when it was being cleaned, but I had to notify reception about the issue when I checked out. Also, there was building work going on and my view was of scaffolding. I had to keep the blinds closed to maintain some privacy while in the room. There are a lot of stair cases to navigate to get to the various rooms. I went for the room only option as I was taking a ferry early one day and the restaurant opened later on weekends, so I wouldn’t have had time to enjoy my breakfast. There are plenty of places nearby with cheaper breakfast (and nice) options though. I did have dinner on one evening at the Pickled Pig though and the food was fine. The current policy is no housekeeping services unless specifically requested. It would have been nice if they topped up the tea/coffee etc if nothing else without having to request it. I paid for the room when I checked in and was told when I checked out that there were extra charges - apparently someone gave my room number when dining at the Pickled Pig. Thankfully the receptionist believed me when we worked out the date and food details, although I could have provided evidence I'd dined elsewhere as I'd paid by card.…
My sister and I spent 2 nights here, at the start and end of our walk around the coastal path respectively. The staff were friendly, the service was good, the rooms were mostly in good order and were clean. We ate breakfast both times, I would recommend, if you order a cooked breakfast, to order something that has to be cooked fresh, as the first day I had part of the full English, just after breakfast service had started, but the bacon had clearly been sitting quite a while. I had eggs benedict when we returned and that was good.
