Covid Like The Grinch That Stole Christmas or Scrooge, but They The Staff of The Restoration made sure that didn’t happen. When I think of our celebration of my partners 60 birthday and our Christmas in Charleston words that I never cared about like Cleanliness, Safety, Order and Security come to mind. I/We never worried about touching a door handle eating food and drinking and they made it all seem normal and with courage in the words of Winston Churchill, Be Calm and Carry On. The Digs: I’m always surprised just how blessed we are when traveling but this room 306 topped them all: The Room: Spacious and Urban with big rooms a real kitchen that saved us plenty of dough in pricey Charleston: Plus a decadent slice of chocolate birthday cake I not the birthday boy fought for and almost demolished. I loved the exposed brick, the wooden floors the clever architecture that allowed a door and a room yet remained open. MIMO lighting of chandeliers and built in ceiling lights. The Decor: The Christmas Tree with modern ornaments I wanted to take home were a collection of round Mercury ornaments and bright lights a tree that was 6 foot tall blending in with 12 foot ceilings. Big windows opening on to King Street and we looked out and could take in the views without having to move the furniture. Fun art with a smiling chap on a motorcycle blending back in to a life size actual motorcycle in the splendid lounge. Big chairs and a sofa, with a giant tv. Special Room Touches: A large present under the tree with coupons and gift certificates worth several dollars far exceeding The Christmas Package initial cost: Food, drinks and a bottle of celebration bubbly, all free and in the fridge. From pimento cheese and crackers to sodas and bottled sparkling water and juices at once convenient not having to buy those things and quite decadent. The Hotel Itself: A true home away from home like visiting a movie stars digs like a similar home in Manhattan of Liv Shriver as can be googled in The Architectural Digest: Your greeted with a warm fire this is on the residence side, and a library of wonderful picture books from all over the world. Tasteful But moderne Christmas decoration with many reflective ornaments, big comfy furniture, and that big motorcycle is all like a dream come true for anyone wanting to live the good life. We said this is What the Good Life is all about. Elegance without pretentious fuzzy intimidating decor, warmth without tacky cutesy decor, (Oh Grandma Got Run Over by a reindeer feeling) Nothing was tacky or tasteless, however the iron snakes in front of the fireplace I wanted to cover with a cloth: Reception: Bright and welcoming like stepping aboard a 300 foot yacht, with dual reception desks and smiling, open, vibrant staff that became friends excited we were their. A culmination of many calls and presents I sent with my own youthful glee, I sent flowering tea a present from our pets, and sweets. They were happy and grateful and I wanted to ensure when arrived they were happy and the 60th celebration was perfect. It was beyond perfect not the terrifying Covid lockdown experience I was dreading. They checked us in made sure we were informed they told us about a glass of bubbly or wine, with a special cheese plate that was always a delight in a very special rooftop restaurant. After all it was Christmas Day and quite cold but the staff melted our “frozen souls”. The Conceirge was helpful full of resources and fighting for our stay making sure we had reservations in all the right places, she made sure everywhere we were treated special. The front desk manager greeted us by name took us around and showed us our digs. He was bright, and dressed impeccably with a big grin and polished and dare I say warm Charleston Demeanor. The front desk staff also were helpful planning and perfecting our stay like Santa’s jolly elves. Kindness flowed like champagne on New Years. The bellman also whisked us away whatever we wanted to go and he did showing us the historic sights we took it all in he was a character out of Dickens and with a mix of southern charm and youthful vitality he made us feel 19 years younger I’m 56 my partner turned 60. No one showed any sign of homophobia we were as we were and respected as such, a couple of almost 20 years more respect, then arrogant fuss. I can’t say enough for how special all were and we had the drinks at 5:00 a warm house red wine, a cheese plate and olives and warm pita bread. Dare I say the views of The restaurant were absolutely spectacular the space was open and safe with huge outdoor spaces with plenty of space fir safe social distancing. I was so impressed we shared our careful free purchases with them an ornament for the Conceirge lovingly wrapped by a store clerk and a gum ball machineall from yes an olde time jeweler on King Street we had a 100 dollar gift certificate that the marketing team carefully curated and we had so much fun shopping on King Street I bought Oakley sunglasses my partner bought an amazing Barbur Coat that was quilted and looked elegant and smart and they staff noticed. We were Kings on King Street with our horse drawn carriage a famous beautiful white horse and carriage whisked is to The best restaurant in town then we walked back and saw the gaslights and smelled the pralines and stores with their handmade goodies, all on my partners 60th birthday. I have only seen him cry twice at him mother and fathers funeral I and the staff done it he thanked me with a tear in his eye he said we were wanting a trip to Germany to see the Christmas markets on a river cruise on The Rhine but we got a Ferry Take Story That started with Once upon a Time in a splendid Perfect Hotel with a blue beckoning light, and ended with They lived Happily Ever After!!! PS are dogs were treated better then The Queens The Conceirge loved them so much she rewarded us with walking them for 1/2 an hour on the big 60th birthday. but their rare joyous behavior meant they shared a loving joyful walk and they saw the college and streets of Charleston by this charming and friendly Friend you can’t fake good smells and our dogs were truly happy. Stay tuned for many carefully curated pictures if you don’t go here and stay here your a sad little fool and I wasted three hours writing this thank you love letter to the staff and you. In the words of Miranda in Devil Wears Prada to her very unlucky servant/driver in a big Mercedes. With her indignant poised snobbery I join with her, “Just Go”!!!!!!!!!!!! and lucky you, it’s all about Royal You Here. …
We came here to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and enjoyed a DELIGHTFUL stay!! The staff were fabulous - attentive, helpful, always cheerful!! The room was fantastic - secluded, luxurious & quiet!! We stayed for 4 nights over Labor Day weekend & enjoyed a delicious breakfast delivered to our door each morning - it was a fabulous way to start the day!! The location is quite walkable to downtown venues, and on those occasions where we would rather not walk, we were able to take advantage of their offer to take us via golf cart - marvelous - no parking issues!! We highly recommend this wonderful gem!! Thank you Restoration Hotel for providing a wonderful experience for a very special celebration - we can't wait to visit you and enjoy your wonderful city again soon!!
This place is absolutely amazing. Great service with a very friendly staff. The rooftop bar is a great place to have a drink. Also, the coffee shop on site has great coffee. The hotel is very clean and within walking distance to most everything.
This was my first stay at The Restoration. I'm a lifetime Charleston visitor so I've been to most of the hotels. The Restoration is a great location, small and easy to manage. The rooms are large, comfortable and quiet. Most important, the service was wonderful. They arranged in room massages that we some of the best I've had. I'm super excited to learn about the Restoration and it will be my next stay in Charleston.
Excellent from the greeting at the door through checkout. Staff is very very good at what they do. No reason to book anywhere else for us. If you want to take a family trip, this is the place. Multiple bedroom option, multiple bathrooms, full kitchens - it has no “feel” of a traditional hotel 👌🏼😎
