Overall I was happy with my stay at the HIE West Chester.
There was no one at the desk when I arrived (there are bells on each side to request service), but the receptionist came out before I even rang a bell. She was very nice & got us checked in quickly. Later, she also filled the hot water (in the breakfast area) for me without me asking (she saw me try it & find it empty).
The room is decent. Not overly new, but overly old. There was a decent sized TV and (most importantly) several outlets on the lamp between the beds. The heater on the wall had the thermostat on it (rather than on the wall), but the heat functioned well.
The bathroom was a bit disappointing. The worst part is that the shower gel was empty. There was one bar of soap, so we had to move it back & forth from the shower to the sink (not the end of the world, but a pain). Also, there was a broken tile in on the wall by the tub and a weird metal bracket on the wall (I'm guessing where a hair dryer had been at one time).
The breakfast area was nice. At night, the breakfast fridge was not locked, so you can get yogurt any time you want (as long as there is no one at the front desk that has a view of the breakfast area). I was disappointed in the morning as there were no cinnamon rolls; that’s HIE’s signature thing. You have to have those! There was eggs & sausage (both pork & turkey patties) as well as continental items (cereal, small Danish, muffins, & bagels). It was the typical HIE breakfast (minus the cinnamon rolls). So breakfast was still good, but just missing those rolls!
The fitness room is VERY small. There are just 3 machines (treadmill, elliptical, & recumbent bike) & 3 sets of very light dumbbells). There are tiny bottles of water, though, which is a nice touch.
Overall, it was a pretty good hotel. It didn’t wow me, & I won’t eagerly await my next stay there, but I won’t hesitate to stay there, either.

Upon arrival to the hotel it was real clean on the outside. I was very impressed once I entered the hotel. The staff was real friendly and polite and will go out of their way to help you. As for the rooms and the furniture inside the rooms very outdated and old the pull out bed we had was dry rotted and my son laid upon it he fell through the mattress onto the floor, even though they were quick to find us another room the damage was already done. The room we switch to a double bed which was nice since my son didn’t have to sleep on the couch and also the desk with the chair but the chair was dry rotted peeling and had a hole in back of it.. you can tell the furniture in these two rooms that we had was very outdated and old should’ve been throw it out years ago. But my overall experience there was nothing but amazing friendly staff friendly people when we met them in the hallway very nice and kind ..The food gets the job done a little bland but it’s food no complaints. I would highly recommend this Hotel for business, pleasure, leisure time downtime or whatever you want this place with suit your needs very well.

Very undistinguished hotel. Very poor bag breakfast: 3 small pork based Jimmy Dean sandwiches, very small yogurt cup, only orange as fruit, no cereal. Pool smelled like a wet dog. No jacuzzi. At least the rooms were clean, although the ice maker didn't work on our floor. I wonder how long it's been broken.

We stayed here for a local basketball tournament. Check-in required photo id and $50.00 refundable incidental charge. The outside/ inside of the property, gym and pool are VERY VERY well maintained. The rooms are stocked with Dove lotion, hand soap, mouthwash, body wash, shampoo & conditioner. Beds sheets clean and mattress comfortable. Every outlet and lamp worked I cannot stress enough how clean this place was. The breakfast topped everything off! eggs, sausage, pancakes, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, pastries etc.!! Staff was friendly - Milan checked us in, if we visit the area again, we will definitely make our reservation here! Thank you for such great service.

The noise was horrendous!! The front desk ineffective. There is no such thing as quiet hours it was party in the halls all night long.
The ADA room met regulation but then they added things and that made them null. For example they added a hall mounted soap dispenser between the door and light switch so in a wheelchair you cannot get at the switch until you are well into the dark room.
The housekeeping staff was very friendly and welcoming but the front desk people were just there.

The rooms are fine, though the hotel does need to be updated. The trains are a little slow, but overall not a bad room. The problem is is that they cannot get the rewards right. We paid for rewards with both of our rooms, but then they went ahead and charged our credit card for one of the two rooms. We have spent countless hours on the phone with them and Holiday inn corporate, and we all have been promised multiple times that the room charges would be refunded, and the points were used. They ended up using both the points, and charging us. We had to go to our credit card, and sent all the information about how they did this. They're still fighting with us 2 months later.

We are big fans of Holiday Inn Express and it’s our preferred hotel when traveling. This one does not meet the high standards we’ve come to expect. Management needs to spend time on maintenance. The outlet in our bathroom did not work. We called the front desk within minutes of checking in and the desk clerk came to our room, assessed the situation and said an electrician would fix it the next day. But it was not fixed during our stay. In the interim, they provided a hair dryer since the built-in one would not work. The faucet handle was extremely hard to use and it took two hands to get it to move. The shower curtain rod was popping out of the tile at both ends, which meant that the shower curtain slid to the center and would not close at either end of the tub. There was mold/mildew in the shower enclosure. The clear/off button on the microwave did not work. The soap dispenser inside the shower was empty. So was the tiny bottle of body lotion on the sink counter. The room needs more outlets. All of the Holiday Inn Express hotels we’ve stayed at have outlets on each night table but this hotel only has an outlet on the desk across from the bed. We don’t mind foregoing housekeeping service but there should be towel bars in the bathroom to hang towels so they dry out. The sausage at the breakfast buffet was barely warm both mornings and the orange juice dispenser was empty. This is the worst Holiday Inn Express we’ve ever stayed at.

When we first walked in to the hotel we were greeted by a smell that was a cross between rotting fruit and mildew. Unfortunately we were traveling with a group and were unable to try to find another location in a timely manner. The room smelled heavily of mold and it was a scent that would not go away and led to 2 sleepless nights. This moldy room exacerbated my son’s asthma and I requested a different room and was advised there was nothing available and nothing they could do about the smell. The furniture in the room is worn. There are no convenient outlets to plug in electronics unless you have 10 ft charging cords ,The ice machine is an unsanitary giant chest that everyone sticks their hands in to grab ice with a scooper. The are 2 pieces of dated equipment in the fitness center and there is no temperature adjustment in the room which is kept at about 77 degrees. No towels at the pool. This is our second poor experience at a Holiday Inn express in PA and our whole group has requested that our travel agent avoid this chain for future bookings

This building needs a renovation. The furniture is in poor condition, and the bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Asked for extra pillows and told there were none. There were missing supplies in our room (No soap, no caffeinated coffee), and persons who were supposed to be at the desk were often missing. Considering it was a holiday weekend there also should have been more staff working the breakfast service. I stay at Holiday Inns all the time but I'm not coming back to this one.

I recall an automatic pancake maker. Pretty interesting concept, since almost every free breakfast has a waffle maker that's not a continental breakfast. I believe there was some meat and eggs, dairy items like milk and yogurt. A variety of beverages, fruit and cereals/oatmeal.
Yes, the pool is indoors, but it was too crowded to use when we were there.
