We were biking the GAP Trail and the C&O Trail. When we called Rick, the owner, he suggested a good restaurant in Connellsville and then came with his trailer to pick us up and take us to his fabulous retreat. The rooms were spacious and clean and the breakfast was delicious. And, after breakfast Rick once again shuttled us back to the trail. It was a wonderful experience with gracious hosts and delicious food. We recommend Seams Like Home to anyone biking through.
What a wonderful stay on a cold winter day! We had a great time. The owners were very friendly and accommodating without hovering over us. The breakfast was HUGE! And we had the whole place to ourselves. The tub was really spacious, so make time for a nice long hot soak. The owner built us an outdoor fire and we say around it drinking wine and talking. It was nice. Romantic and comfortable. Great Christian couple owns it. They also do quilting. The quilts are amazing.
We made last moment plans to go white water rafting in the Ohiopyle/Laurel Highlands area. A call to an expensive resort was a turndown. All the lovely homes built by Frank Lloyd Wright were booked solid. We widened our search and came across Donna and Rick's super clean, well maintained and appointed B&B. Our 2 rooms shared a large jack.n.jill which had a spacious tub with multiple jet sprays - we stuck to the walk in enclosed shower. Donna owns 2 stores in the Uniontown area - a quilting supplies-cum-workshop and a clothing alteration business. The couple have owned the B&B for about 10 years. Rick informed us that the original structure was gutted and designed to accommodate a spacious upper level B&B and a lower lever residence for the inn keepers. The upper level has a large area for quilting workshops. Guests have access to well appointed kitchen and lounge with a pool table, TV, couches and many of Donna's quilts to keep them warm and comfy. We stayed 2 days - on Sunday we had a full house at the breakfast table. The breakfast was sufficient to power you for the day ahead. On our next day we were the only guests, which allowed Rick to toss out a customized egg breakfast. the B&B is located in the rolling countryside of SW PA dotted with cattle farms. Closer to the B&B there are prominent white on blue roadside signs that guide you to turn on the approach road which was very helpful. Having breakfast with 3 other couples who came from different walks of life was one an A plus of our stay. We saved a good deal of money by avoiding some of the more expensive lodging in the Laurel Highlands area. Money has its own mind - our savings on lodging resulted in 2 quilts made my Donna and her fellow quilters that we took home. Donne recalled that this is not the first time guests have gone home quilt-laden - a lady architect from Mumbai, India stayed with Donna - and now Donna's handiwork adorns the walls of the architect's Mumbai office. We wish Donna Rick and the B & B a long life. Let's say we pumped a good amount of money in the local economy but we are not guilt-laden at this small splurge, but rather 2 quilt-laden. It was well worth it. We are better for having visited a part of rural USA that is somewhat off the beaten path.…
Really enjoyed the stay. Seams Like Home did seem like home for the weekend. The innkeepers were very nice and welcoming, showed us the place, and made delicious breakfast both days, and helped us plan our activities during the stay. Very nice atmosphere. Nice outdoor area and lounge with TV and board games. Location is great - tucked away in the woods in a place that feels very secluded. But then it's not too far from the road and only a few miles from Connellsville. ~30 min drive to Ohiopyle. The trip was a great break from the everyday life and felt very compatible with good social distancing. Overall very happy with the place.
What a lovely, spacious getaway with gracious hosts who know the needs of cyclists! Nourishing and tasty breakfast, comfortable bed, a cup of tea in the evening and tucked into the silence of the rolling hills just outside Connellsville. Donna and Rick anticipated our needs and graciously transported us from the trail in town to the beauty of the PA countryside. I was refreshed and ready for the next leg of the GAP trail!
