My 12-year old son and I met my mom at Silverstone for 3 nights earlier this month, and had two rooms at the Inn. It was exactly what we needed as a getaway from the monotony of the pandemic and it was a beautiful setting to spend time together. Toni & Lorin were fantastic hosts and have clearly gone above and beyond to make things safe and to make everyone comfortable and happy, even though they can’t do the “breakfast” part of the B&B right now. The Inn is perfectly located, close to all the cute restaurants and Amish country attractions. There is also a lovely/comfy lounge and bar area at the Inn with board games, cards, etc., and even though we had to go out for meals or order in, when we did the latter, the dining area at the Inn was convenient and nice. One of our rooms had a fireplace and a jacuzzi bath and mini-fridge, so we hung out together in the evenings there. Even though the place was full, it was quiet and felt like we were there on our own. The grounds are beautiful and my son loved the sheep at their little farm. We will be back!

We stayed at Silverstone for Valentine’s Day weekend and we couldn’t have asked for a better place or experience! We rented the Butternut Cottage and it was absolutely amazing. The cottage was just enough space and the fireplace made it super cozy. The hot tub outside is incredible and don’t get me started on the sheep!! I grew attached to them and one in particular (I named her Tabitha, view picture). It was so sad to leave, but we can’t wait to come back! It’s also in a great location, if you’re visiting Lancaster definitely stay here.

Silverstone is first rate. Every detail is attended to with impeccable taste and quality. Both the inn and the property are beautiful and welcoming. We stayed in the Copper Beech Suite, which was roomy, tastefully appointed, and comfortable. We recommend Silverstone highly!

My boyfriend and I visited Lancaster and stayed here in the Butternut Cottage. It was really nice with a fireplace inside and a hot tub outside. The cottage is charming and cozy. It's also very old, so if you're on the taller side, watch your head going in and out the front door. We found the mattress to be a little too firm for our liking, but honestly, that's my only complaint and it's all personal preference anyway. The property is also lovely, but be advised there is a wedding venue right behind the cottage. The weddings are over at 10:30pm though so it's not a big deal. If you go to bed early, you might want to ask if there's a wedding during the time you plan to stay. The hostess was very nice and took the time to show us around and tell us a little about the property. Due to COVID, there was no breakfast served, but we don't usually eat breakfast with everyone anyway because we prefer to keep to ourselves. The location was also great because it was super close to everything. A wonderful place overall and I would stay there again.

What a lovely place... from the room to the grounds to the owners! Even the location was perfect. Lancaster County is so big... Silverstone is positioned close to town but once on the grounds it felt as if you were miles away from everything. We will be back! And hopefully next time we will get to stay in the private cottage. :)

I had made reservations for Valentines Day and had to cancel due to my wife injuring her ankle. I called to cancel and they told me they would take care of it. I should have asked for a cancellation number because they charged mt Debit card 437.00 (One weeks pay). Owner was rude and refused to make good for it.Possible lawsuit is pending.

We realize that you are unhappy with us for enforcing our cancellation/no-show policy. As we explained to the credit card company and the better business bureau, our computer system automatically generates a cancellation confirmation number that is sent to you upon cancellation. Our records show no indication of any cancellation and you also were unable to provide any proof of cancellation. Our reminder email was sent as was the original confirmation email. We can only conclude that you thought that you or your wife had cancelled your reservation. When you received the reminder three days prior you should have called to inform us that you could not make it. Several couples were on a wait list as it was Valentine’s Day weekend. We have an unofficial policy that if we can re-rent your room, even if it is last minute, we do not charge a cancellation fee. In your case you never gave us the opportunity to re-rent your room. Because we honored your reservation with us, several people were not able to celebrate Valentine’s Day at our top rated B&B. Both our credit card company and the Better Business Bureau felt we applied our cancellation policy appropriately. We know that this upset you, we recommend in the future if you need to cancel a reservation at any establishment that you receive a cancellation number. Also, when the business sends a reminder of a stay you should take immediate action. In these hectic days, we can think that we did something just because it was on our To Do list, but in actuality it never happened. We send the three day reminders so people do not forget. We just wish that you had called us when you received it, it would have solved your problem.

A quick trip to the area after doing a day in Philadelphia, and stayed in Butternut Cottage only the one night. The Cottage comes with it's own herd of sheep, which is one of the main reasons I decided to stay here. :)
The Inn is easy to find and literally only minutes drive to plenty of restaurants, both local and chain. You wouldn't know that once you turn onto Bowman Rd. as it completely countryside and well cared for farmland. The entire area felt very safe.
The Inn offers a wonderful large parking area, also beautiful expansive and level lawns, surrounded by corn fields - very pretty. The main house is accessed at the entry off the parking lot, and check-in is handled in the dining room. I appreciated that we were not subjected to a LONG verbal history of the house, but were given the tour of the common areas which are available for the comfort of the guests. A nicely balanced reception. (Having stayed in many B&Bs I have come to dread the usual History of the House greetings)
Every area, inside and out, is immaculate. Everything is attractive and carefully thought out for the comfort of the guests. I felt the dining room fell short on ambiance compared to the rest, but served it's purpose perfectly well. In the handsome bar area is a ice maker, glassware, coffees and coffee-maker, creamers, cocoa, and more. I did not find that any "afternoon snack" was offered.
The Cottage specifically: beautiful exterior, great multi-level deck with two seating areas, and with hot tub being on side facing away from the Inn, but it is facing the barn area. The Cottage interior is indeed very small, but carefully arranged to make the best use of space. Not crazy about the look of the small sofa which I nic-named the "slouch couch", and a few other pieces, but overall the furnishings were OK. The bed is very comfortable and very ornate, the TV nice and large w/good reception. Fridge has tiny freezer compartment - yea!
The bathroom is a mini-minus, having such limited space ... So, the width of the bathroom is maybe three feet max. There is only about three feet between the toilet and the shower also, so toweling off is tricky. As a couple you had better not be sensitive to, how shall I say this - sharing sounds. I understood this ahead of time and booked regardless - because of the uniqueness of the Cottage. The bathroom did have a distinct *odor*, which faded after leaving the door open for some time. Also, I ran out of hot water part way through my shower. As a woman with thick hair THAT was a bummer. The only other things which were minor negatives: coffee mugs and plastic tumblers were supplied in the Cottage, but there were no sugar packets or creamers or glassware. Although it isn't much trouble to walk to the Inn and collect those things, one would expect them to be stocked.
Breakfast was excellent. Quickly served, but didn't feel rushed. I am typically very critical about flavors, and can say that every thing we ate was absolutely delectable. The Innkeepers are friendly and welcoming, while allowing you space to enjoy the stay.
P.S. We LOVED the sheep! They do not make noise late at night, so no worries about being disturbed. But we did see the occasional skunk wandering the lawns well after sundown, so consider that if you want to stroll in the moonlight. Additionally, with the darling sheep - comes some slight manure odors noticeable while in the hot tub. Can't be helped. :) We brought along LED "candles" which we placed around the cottage interior and porch. What a pretty effect!

The property is beautiful, and so are the building structures, but I'm fairly convinced the property is haunted. I stayed in the Butternut Cottage, the original house for the property and had two terrible nights of sleep. I was unable to experience breakfast because the first morning I was there, I slept in too late due to being up all night and the next day I had an early train, so I cannot speak to the quality of breakfast. I can say, however, that my lack of sleep causes me to temper my great opinion of the property. I understand that the cottage is old, I do, but nowhere on their website does it discourage sensitive sleepers from staying in the cottage. There is an extremely creepy crawl space door that is locked and is the stuff of nightmares. The house also is built over a stream and all night I could hear the water dripping underneath. My mind played tricks on me and the water dropping began to sound like dogs' barks or people talking. Clearly my experience is idiosyncratic, but I would have much preferred staying in the main house had I known how uncomfortable I would be in the cottage. I would not recommend staying in the cottage if you are a light or sensitive sleeper or are prone to bouts of an active imagination. I was so creeped out by my experience that sleeping in my own home last night was difficult. Please add a note to your website about the nature of the cottage and its creepy door and noises!!

Response from Nick W, Public Relations Manager at Silverstone Inn & Suites

I am sorry to hear your stay was disappointing. We have never had this type of response toward our 1750’s Butternut Cottage. Our Butternut Cottage is one of our more popular rooms. Guests choose it for the historic value as well as the privacy and updated amenities. In fact we have had several guests specifically request the Butternut Cottage because of its privacy & peacefulness. The nights you stayed with us we had a terrible ice storm. This leads us to believe that the storm could have caused the noises that you heard. While it is the original structure on the property, we have completely remodeled and upgraded the cottage with insulated and heated floors, air-conditioning and heating, as well as a fireplace. The locked door you speak of leads to the completely renovated second floor bedroom. Unfortunately, because the stairway was built in the 1750’s it is very steep making it hazardous; therefore, we choose to keep the door locked for your safety. We apologize for your unsatisfactory stay, it is important to us as a small business to make all of our guests stays enjoyable. You left us somewhat surprised to hear that your experience was as described seeing as your handwritten letter to us expressed a more enjoyable stay. It is unfortunate that you did not come in for breakfast or talk to us during your stay. If only you had brought this to our attention or informed us of your unpleasant experience, we would have swiftly engaged the problem and offered a solution. In the future, I encourage you to notify proprietors with any issues so they have a chance to accommodate your needs. Nick W

My wife and I travelled to Lancaster for the first time this summer. As we live near Ohio's Amish country, we were hoping to find a place to stay that was relaxing and beautiful, despite Lancaster's reputation for having become "commercialized." What we found at the Silverstone Inn was above and beyond all expectations!
Top 10 reasons to choose the Silverstone Inn:
10. The restoration. Toni and Lorin, the husband-and-wife innkeepers/owners, invested a massive amount of time, effort, and resources into refurbishing/restoring the place, and very deservedly received an award from the area preservation society for it. Only people who truly love a place could have pulled this off on this level, and the place literally overflows with the couple's devotion to it, their self-described "dream house."
9. The "country feel." From the sheep to the ducks to the stream to the variety of trees to the neighboring farms, nowhere else in Lancaster came close. You'd have to drive miles out of town to even come close to duplicating it.
8. The first floor. Ever stay at a B&B where there was little/nothing to catch your interest between the front door and your room door? This isn't one of those. The dining room, "coffee bar," parlor, and even the hallway are all very nicely appointed and worth spending time in.
7. The structure. If you love the look of 18th-century stone houses, this one will forever be a gem in your memory. Photos don't--can't--do it justice. You have to see it to experience it. My wife thought she'd died and gone to Colonial-era literature heaven.
6. The location. Literally seconds from US 30, with easy access and short drives to the areas most popular destinations, and yet ...
5. The serenity. You won't believe how peaceful this place is despite #6. I grew up in the city, my wife in the country, and we were both blown away by how serene the inn and its grounds are. Reviews of some other Lancaster inns have at times had the caveat that the-inn-is-nice-but-it's-stuck-next-to-such-and-such-a-disruption. Not the Silverstone. It's literally a breath of fresh air.
4. The food. Freshly prepared just for you by "chef" Toni, breakfast is something that we made a point of not missing once. Lorin and Toni do a great job of having just the right balance of service and setting, and the food itself is wonderfully delicious.
3. The rooms. We actually wound up staying in two different rooms, the Gingko and the Magnolia. Both were exceptionally clean, relaxing and very nicely decorated, and the Jacuzzi in each was much needed after a day of driving and walking around southeastern PA.
2. The pace. Toni and Lorin are prompt with breakfast and service, and yet nothing ever feels either too rushed or too lax. Nothing is in-your-face here, which again lends to the peaceful ambience.
1. The owners. Toni, Lorin, and even their twins are wonderfully warm and courteous people. Each has their own skills that worked in perfect harmony to make this one of the best B&B experiences we've ever had, hands down. They are devoted to their guests and this inn, and it shows. If we could've given a rating beyond 5/5, we would have done so in a heartbeat!
