Very disappointed. We had a virgin experience voucher for spa use and afternoon tea. The pool area only had 8 beds, all of which were taken for the 3 hrs we were there. There was nowhere to sit! So we sat against a wall alongside the pool. Not exactly what we expected! There is a great steam room and sauna. They have what looks like a jacuzzi but it's a 'bubble' pool, basically pool temperature water with weak jets- what's the point in that?! Showers were good, lockable lockers were unlockable! The coffee from the spa reception was £3 for a small coffee in take away cup which tasted bloody awful. The latte in the main building was even worse- undrinkable! And I'm not a coffee connoisseur. The afternoon tea was shambolic. The sandwiches were limp and tasteless . The scones were obviously microwaved as they were piping hot with a bouncy texture. The other sweet stuff was so so. Thank god we didn't pay for this ourselves. Spend a bit extra and go somewhere else!

Arrived to find car park 1 (car park 2 was full!), was full of potholes (see photo). Our sports car, had a tough time negotiating the ground. No signs as to the condition, whether temporary or if it was being refurbished, very poor. Went to reception, the girl was more interested in getting hold of our credit card than welcoming us. "I have paid over £170.00 in full six months ago for this one night, I will pay cash for any purchases, why do you need our credit card?" It seems Hotel policy, so rather than cause a scene, I reluctantly agreed for a £10 pre-authorisation in case we bought anything, this had been reduced from £50 apparently. Got to the room, which on first inspection seem nice. Then we noticed a split floor tile on entry to the bathroom, walk on this in bare feet and it would cause a terrible injury (see photo). The wallpaper look like a cat had been sharpening its claws, very worn and tatty (see photo). Could not get the channel guide on the TV, got a message saying not licensed? On the painted wall, looks like there had been a leak or liquid had been sprayed on it (see photo). Fluff (evidence of poor cleaning regime) on curtain pole finial (see photo). Given the start we had had, made a conscious decision to eat out, and not spend any money here. We did venture to look at the spa, which is a seventy metre walk from the Hotel in the open, so in poor weather, not a ideal location having had a treatment or swim. We went out and had a great meal at Kingswood, 1/2 mile from this place. After an interrupted nights sleep, guests in the garden until 01.30 making a racket, we checked out. I asked about the credit card matter and was assured that it would drop off that day. On leaving, I pointed out all the issues with the room only, and was thanked. Now today, six days later, the pre-authorisation amount still appears on my credit card, despite making no purchases. Had this been removed from my credit card, I may not have taken to writing this review in such detail, as I am a patient person (hence waiting six days), but my patience has now run out with this establishment. So maybe you can make your own mind up as to whether my experience, or part of it will influence your decision to stay here. Me, they couldn't pay me to stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a 2 bedroom lodge. Lodge was immaculate. So wish I could give 5 stars but one of the temperature controls in the shower wasn’t working and the other shower was dripping and slow draining. Staff were brilliant. So helpful at 11pm at night when the smoke alarm battery started beeping and they came over to take it away! Breakfast and dinner food was delicious. Recommend the stir fry duck. Spa and pool area nice. It’s on a quiet site and is a great location to explore the area from. Visit absolutely made by a morning breakfast chat with @iceman_hof who was also staying at the hotel. Would definitely revisit.

I choose the Cornwall as it offered both Hotel and Lodge accommodation as well as the Spa, pool and gym, which suited our group that were staying for a long weekend to celebrate a wedding anniversary and birthday. Plus it's location makes it ideal to visit the local attractions such as Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and the coastal towns/villages. The hotel rooms are unusual in that they are separate from the hotel building and spread out along the hillside behind the main building with a connecting corridor. The room was large, clean and well appointed with an enormous bed! Although we didn't stay in the lodge, we used it as a place for the family to congregate in. Again they were well appointed and looked to be fitted out to a high standard. There were no complaints from our family that stayed in it, although a bar of soap would have been useful in the kitchen. Part of our group made use of the Spa, pool and gym and found them all excellent. Food in the restaurant was generally good, with one or two items not quite up to our expectations, whilst other dishes surpassed. Breakfast was excellent. The most outstanding aspect of the hotel was undoubtedly the staff. They were excellent in every respect, from helpful with the booking, meeting our special requests, pleasant whilst we were staying and seemed happy in their work. This reflected in a 'can do' attitude and a desire to make our stay happy and memorable, which it was. The only caveat is the carpet in the restaurant that could really do with a clean, but as a person that worked in flooring I always notice that sort of thing!

Beautiful relaxed hotel for our child free weekend. The room was lovely and clean and sitting out on the balcony in the morning with a coffee was so nice. Great breakfasts and dinner! Staff were all nice and friendly. Spa was gorgeous, I had a manicure and the best massage I’ve ever had ‘de stress massage’. Everywhere was clean and well looked after. Visited The lost gardens of Heligan which is close by, stunning place and definitely worth a visit. The most relaxed weekend and I hope to go back again soon!
