We booked our family "Pre-Christmas Meal" here. We are all well trained, well behaved and treat others with the uppermost respect. We spent a lot of money and had a very tidy tip put to one side (in cash) for our waitress in advance like we do every year, wherever we go. Unfortunately, she was as miserable as sin and could not have been more unhelpful. We all noticed it and were offended by it and we shall not be coming back as a group, as couples, at Christmas, or at any other time. I'm also guessing our tip would have been considerably more than she gets paid for an entire shift....Her loss.

We genuinely couldn't find fault with this idyllic country establishment. The premises were immaculately maintained and spotlessly clean. The surroundings were astonishingly beautiful and the food was second to none! Dale and Wendy were kind and welcoming and couldn't do more to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We will definitely be back! Although I should imagine we'll have to book a very long way in advance! Thanks so much guys, we'll be recommending to all of our friends for sure :-)

This is a family-run hotel and all the staff are friendly, courteous, helpful and informative. The chef, Christophe, is excellent and cooks and presents the food to an extremely high standard and the portion sizes are super. The room was spacious, clean, well-presented and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area. In fact, I might find an excuse to visit the area again just so that I could stay here, it was that good.

Room Tip: Polkerris on the top floor is a hike to get to, but well worth it. Can hear traffic noise though...

Whoever takes care of hiring at the Britannia must be an excellent judge of character. The staff who I have met so far; including Jack, Sam, and Bradley; have been attentive, accommodating, and extremely polite. I have felt welcomed and cared for, and I can see that all the staff communicate professionally with each other as a close team and truly care about their roles. I had the fried breakfast with a coffee, the coffee came quickly before the meal which I like and was delicious, the food came shortly after. The chef is amazing and I cannot wait to try the main meals. The presentation of the breakfast was great, and there was a very healthy portion of well sourced ingredients which were, in my opinion, cooked perfectly. I have eaten a lot of fried breakfasts in my time and would honestly say hand on heart this is the best I have ever eaten. If you are coming to St Austell and need somewhere to stay, do not miss out. In future when visiting St Austell I will always be staying at the Britannia.
