Excellent value single room. Clean, comfy, convenient. Small room and narrow stairs, but all fair enough given the price and the period property. Great location right in the middle of the pleasant historic town, two minutes' walk from the riverside. Usual terrific value Wetherspoons pub downstairs (well insulated - the room itself was very quiet) but lots of other places to eat and drink a short stroll away. Very handy to be able to get breakfast at 7am downstairs before my early start cycling next day. Friendly staff, too!
The food was disgusting cold and badly cooked rooms were small and hot but the steps up to the bedrooms was horrendous very steep there is a lift but it only goes to the first floor so no good for me don't have a room on the front very noisy people swearing and shouting early in the night
We're just back home after a lovely stay at George Hotel. The staff (even though they all seemed so young!) were amazingly professional and very very hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble. We were asked to change rooms due to another guest needing our accessible room, and the transition was as seamless and straightforward as it could have been, without any hassle to us. Very comfortable beds with immaculate and good quality bedding - can't fault it at all. The room we moved to had a large bathroom with a bath, also very clean. Superb housekeeping. We took all our meals in the restaurant there, and again, everything was excellent - the staff were all so friendly and kind. This was our second stay at the George Hotel, and we'll definitely stay again. Free parking too. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THERE FOR TREATING US SO HOSPITABLY.…
I booked five rooms weeks in advance of our stay and remain very disappointed and angry that the hotel refuses to offer any form of compensation. We stayed two days and unfortunately outside the hotel the road was been resurfaced with work being done during the night. Now I accept the hotel has limited responsibilities for this however, it was very clear that the work preparation was well on the way so the hotel must have known and should have contacted booking.com or myself directly to advise. We could have chosen to go ahead as planned or rearranged the stay. Very disappointed with the outcome and despite booking to stay at the Wetherspoon hotel in Whitby next April given the level of customer service I plan to cancel the booking. Booking. Com followed up but unsatisfactorily.
This is a large Wetherspoons pub/hotel. Rooms were decent enough. Those at the front were subject to street noise. The Wetherspoons food menu is standard and its choice of beers was less than usual. Free car parking for residents at the rear. This is a nice old building with some interesting wood paneling. The staff were competent and friendly
