I appreciated the honesty of Joy Coleman when I booked our three-night stay at the Spencer House B&B. Before I had even given her our credit card number, she explained that, as the new innkeepers, she and her husband Fletcher were completely renovating the home, which had been neglected by previous owners. Despite the problems, my husband and I loved the character and charm of the Spencer House. We stayed in the President's Suite, which was spotless. The bed was restful, the wall-mounted flatscreen was quite large and the free-standing air conditioner kept the room comfortable, even with the heat wave. While we were away playing on Presque Isle and around the Erie Bayfront area, the Colemans made sure the room was tidied up. If there was a downside, it was our bathroom, which

We selected this B&B with a bit of trepidation, as there were some less than flattering reviews. However, it was apparent that ownership had recently changed (spring of 2012) and newer reviews had a brighter tone. We could not have been happier with our choice. The new owners are wonderfully hospitable and seem genuinely enthused about what they're doing. The property is a real gem - classic period decorations and the stunning oak woodwork downstairs make this 1850s victorian a unique spot. Despite a heatwave, A/C throughout the house made even our 3rd floor bedroom a very pleasant place. While still under some renovation, everything was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delightful. If you're ever in Erie , we highly recommend a visit with Fletcher and Joy at the Spencer House.

This place is so beautiful. We were here for a wedding and had plans to drive back home to Pgh Pa. We decided to stay over night and found Spencer House at the last minute. The hospitality was so wonderful. The owners are kind and sweet. We toured the house as well. It is worth the price and I will return again soon.

My wife and I had decided to check out the Spencer bed and breakfast a year ago. The place looked abandoned. We had heard that a husband and wife had taken over the property in march and we were willing to try it out again due to the fact that the house itself was a beautiful timepiece of the colonial era. We were more than pleased with the way the new owners have cared for this beautiful home. Restoration has gone a long way and the place is so clean and fresh. They have poured their heart and soul into the Spencer house and it shows. The showers were remodeled, they put air conditioning in all the rooms, the breakfast was one of the best I have had in a long long time and I can guarantee you one thing, if you stayed here with the previous owners, please take the time to

If you appreciate historic homes, this one does not disappoint. The massive, original oak woodwork throughout the first floor is stunning - exactly what you'd expect in a house of this vintage. I stayed in the Niagara Room and felt completely comfortable. The shower is rather small in this room, but acceptable. Breakfast was delicious. The proprietors, Fletcher and Joy, are lovely people who obviously take pride in their business. I recommend Spencer House B&B. I know I will stay there again next time I'm in Erie. By the way, the location is great if you need to be close to downtown. Nice restaurants are within easy walking distance. I especially liked Molly Brannigans on State Street.
