The Hilton Portland Downtown has received accolades for its prime location in the heart of the city and for maintaining clean and comfortable rooms, with guests frequently highlighting the tidiness as a highlight. However, opinions are split regarding the room sizes and noise levels, as well as the value offered, with some guests feeling the cost of parking and lack of certain amenities do not justify the price. While the staff's professionalism and friendliness are often commended, there are reports of slow service at times, particularly at the front desk.

After our flights got cancelled at ONE IN THE MORNING after sitting there for hours with my husband and 8 yr old son, American Airlines put us up at the Hilton. Usually the airlines will offer the closest and cheapest but thankfully the lower end hotels in the area were completely booked out. After Ubering there and arriving at close to 2 am, it was such a plesant surprise to walk into a beautiful historic building and be greeted by professional and friendly staff. The room was fabulous and the beds were so comfortable and large, our family of 3 crashed into the fluffy pillows and didn’t wake until mid morning. I cannot think of one negative thing about our stay. Breakfast and restaurant staff were lovely. The next day’s front desk and concierge staff were warm and accommodating. Checkout was a breeze and they even held our bags after checkout so we could walk around their very convenient location. I will stay there again on my next visit as I would not mind paying full price. Worth it. I highly recommend.

Wow! What a remarkable review. Anytime that we can surpass expectations, that lets us know that we are on the right track. There's no doubt it is lovely to hear about our fabulous, cozy accommodations and scrumptious meals. However, it is even more amazing to know that our team delivered top-notch service. Thank you so much for the recommendation. We look forward to welcoming you back to Hilton Portland Downtown. Sincerely, Dwight Tabales, General Manager

We happen to have reservations at the Hilton Portland Downtown, and it just happened to be one of the hottest days in Portland unfortunately. Upon arrival the hotel was closed, I was able to get in through one of the side doors and a security guard approached me and said the hotel was closed that I would be staying at the sister property which was the Duniway Portland Hilton Hotel. Well on the website it never said anything about this hotel being closed. After walking a short distance across the street there was an extremely long line of people waiting to check in. There were only two customer service agents checking people in, people behind me were mumbling about if I could get my money back or get out of my reservation it would be best. While waiting in line I was calling the Hilton customer service number to see if there is any nearby hotels that were available.

Unfortunately, there was none everything was booked up, by the time I reached the front desk the agent told me that there were no rooms available that I could check in at this time. I asked him when the earliest I could check in, this was around 5:30 PM he said he didn't have an answer because the laundry had shut down and they didn't have any clean linen to change or make up the rooms. He said he would give me a call as soon as a room became available. Now the next thing was trying to find a restaurant that was open and would be willing to service while it was 114°. We were able to find something in Vancouver Washington, but oh of course we had to set outside. Around 9 PM I hadn't heard from the hotel, so I headed back downtown.

The agent at the Duniway had told me they opened the Hilton Portland downtown for guest to check-in I was to head across the street there. Of course, there was a line thereto after checking in and getting the wrong room the first time and returning to the front desk to get another room for my family we finally settled in about 10 PM. In the morning we woke up above our air conditioner in the ceiling was a leaking roof with a small drip onto arc air conditioner I called down the maintenance and reported it, and they said they would send someone up to look at it. Upon checking out they asked for a credit card I told him I had already gave one when I checked in, they said they needed one, so I went ahead. After walking to the parking garage, I noticed that I had been double charged on the room I went back up there in the customer service agent said it should eventually come off. Well after a week went by, I ended up having to call the hotel back because they did double charge me. It was an easy fix they were able to credit me one of those charges. No, I don't like to complain a whole lot and I understand that he had a lot to do with the situation, I appreciate the patients that both the customer service agents had and having to deal with all the people during this heat wave.

Overall, the rooms are very nice looks like the hotel was recently upgraded or updated really enjoyed the standup shower in the bathrooms. I'm sure that the pandemic didn't help with the situation the hotel was going through, I may give it another try under different circumstances.

As others have said, the only thing great is the location. Hilton sent me emails the day before saying I could choose my room which I did. They also said I could have "keyless contactless entry" and just go directly to my room. Of course this involved giving my VISA number so they could charge it. My phone just said "preparing your room" all the way until we arrived at 5:30 pm. So we had to go to the front desk and the man at the front desk knew nothing about it and said "well of course you can't just go to your room, you have to pay first!". He then took my credit card and never acknowledged me again because he was too busy flirting with my daughter. There is no parking unless you want to pay $55 nightly valet so we just parked in a local garage. He also put $150 more on my card than my reservation had guaranteed. He didn't mention the reason so when I got to my room and saw I had been charged $575 for two nights instead of $400 (which was only because I was here for a conference. It's usually considerably higher), I had to go back down stairs and another front desk person informed me that was a charge for "incidentals" that would come off when I check out. It would have been nice if the original guy had mentioned that or just gave me any information at all. The room was clean and fairly quiet because we paid extra to get a room on the 20th floor. There is no refrigerator which is frustrating. Overall, I would not stay here again, especially if I had to pay full price.

What I liked: the mattress was decent and the room appeared clean. What I did not like: the hotel is cashless and there was not hint of that (how do you tip a valet or housekeeper without proper change?) and there didn't seem to be enough staff at the front desk, the valet parking or the coffee kiosk in the lobby. These were the services I used and there are likely others. My room shared a wall with the elevator shaft and I felt fortunate to get the bit of sleep that I did. The electronic locks acted like they needed new batteries or something...very slow and inconsistent response. I made a cup of both the in room coffee and tea and both tasted pretty much the same, like colored water. Why can't they offer a decent cuppa? What I had a serious issue with is the $55/night parking charge. Are you kidding me? Had there been any hint of that on their website it might not have been an issue but to charge that with all of the other sub-par services offered seemed. The next time I'm back in Portland, I will most assuredly find a different option. It can't be any worse than this.

There was nothing special about this hotel other then location.
The front desk was super rude every time approached. The bar tender was kind of rude also. The first room we had smelt like smoke, and need to change rooms.
The next room we got, it sounded like a bathroom fan was on, we tried turning off the ax and bathroom light but just gave up on the annoying noise. I’m glad I brought headphones!
Food at the bar was alright, but it did close super early on a Saturday :/

No breakfast provided, water bottles in room are $3 (like reallllly???!!) you cant even provide water to guest staying guest. LAME!!

Only pros:
Good bed
Location was great
Street parking was easy (valet parked is like $50)

I have never been so furious or felt so helpless in my entire life! I checked in at the Hilton Portland Downtown on September 14th, only to have one of my three shipped packages—a suitcase—lost by the hotel. Not only did they fail to take any responsibility or compensate me, but every staff member I spoke with, including front desk clerks, package receivers, security personnel, the security manager, and the lobby manager, showed zero accountability. I explicitly told them that if any additional packages arrived for me, they must be refused and returned to the sender, as I was aware a delayed package would not arrive during my stay. The merchant assured me that if the package was refused, it would be returned, and I would be refunded. But on September 16th, despite my clear instructions, the hotel signed for my package, causing me further distress!

The security manager had promised me an update on my lost package, but on the 16th, I heard nothing. I called again, and the call was forwarded to the lobby manager, who assured me they would handle the situation and discuss how to return the wrongly accepted package. Yet, even today, I have not received a single email or response. When I called on the 17th, it seemed like I had been blacklisted—no matter what I tried, my calls would not go through!

This was only the beginning of my nightmare at this terrible establishment. The hotel was cramped, claustrophobic, and filthy. To make matters worse, there was an unbearable noise throughout the night that made it impossible to sleep. I contacted the front desk around 1:30 a.m. on the 15th, and they assured me someone would come to check on the noise issue. I waited from 1:30 to 2:10 a.m., and no one showed up. I called them two more times, and I got the same empty promises. Exhausted, I finally managed to fall asleep, but only for 3-4 hours of shallow, restless sleep due to the noise!

Until the day I checked out, they took no action, nor did they inquire about my satisfaction, as if my wasted 40 minutes waiting at 1:30 a.m. and my entire sleepless night were irrelevant to them! This ruined my entire trip, and their empty promises only added insult to injury.

If you have any self-respect or value your peace of mind, stay FAR AWAY from Hilton Portland Downtown. I wouldn’t wish this experience on my worst enemy!

We selected this hotel due to its location to a concert venue and we’re Hilton honors members. We did like the location and the room was fine overall- comfy bed & large TV. The soap & shampoo dispensers were empty (discovered after I was already in the shower!). We walked to other restaurants to eat so didn’t try the hotel restaurant/bar. The valet parking situation could be better; we had to wait quite awhile when we arrived and again when we were ready to leave because there was only one attendant to park and retrieve all the cars. He was very nice but it just seems that for the expensive price to valet park that it would be a better flow to have more than one attendant. But maybe this is how it is in all the big hotels in Portland- what do I know?

Great hotel, staff, and food. My biggest issue was that the room key, which was actually in an app on my phone, worked better. Loved not having to wait at the front desk to check in. We surprisingly came back to a cleaned up room without having to ask for housekeeping. The food was very good, if expensive, but they seemed to be a little short staffed and service was slow. Friendly, but slow.

Currently staying here for a few wk for work. Shipped a few small packages that arrived after I checked in and was then informed by the FD I would have to pay $3.50 per package that was received. I was never informed of this fee (or policy) upon check-in and it’s not listed on the hotel website with other fees and policies. I did my due diligence in making myself familiar with fees prior I thought. The FD manager Ethan was less than friendly and argumentative. Not the quality customer service I’m used to in staying at Hiltons for years. He produced a marketing flyer mainly providing recommendations in local dining and pointed to this fee being disclosed on there. However, I was not given this at check-in nor had I seen it prior. I asked him to waive the package fees since these fees and policy were not disclosed, and therefore I was not given the option to explore other shipping options (such as Amazon lockers or minimizing boxes, etc). He remained argumentative and took my packages with him since I didn’t have a cc with me.

Yes, and I would suggest using it. There is a parking garage within a block of the hotel. If you use the hotel’s valet, you’ll pay a bit more plus an expected tip.
