The Heathman Hotel garners high praise for its immaculate cleanliness and exceptionally friendly staff who deliver personalized service, enhancing guest experiences. Its prime location is a hit among travelers eager to explore Portland's vibrant scene on foot. While the hotel's atmosphere is frequently celebrated for its comfortable elegance, opinions on room comfort and size vary. Although the charming library and unique amenities are appreciated, guests have called out the high fees and limited service hours, which some feel reduce the hotel's overall value.

So, my partner and I have been traveling around Portland, Oregon. We have been staying at any and all hotels rated at least 3 stars and have stayed at about 10 different 3 and 4 star hotels since the beginning of the 2021 calendar year. With that being said. I feel as though my words carry a little more weight as I’ve experienced all kinds of different customer service from nearby hotels.

Michael H. and Brandon have given me the absolute BEST customer service I have ever received. I booked through Priceline one of their basic rooms. The first room I was in had an issue with the cooling; It was just a very warm day and because the room was on such a tall level the window did not open all the way. These two amazing employees accommodated me with a fan, complimentary bottles of chilled water, and by having an engineer take a look at the cooling unit. After, they upgraded me to a larger room. However, by no fault of their own, the second room was neighboring very loud and drunk couple.
Before I even had a chance to tell them of myself neighbors, Brandon had already offered me another room. But this did not happen... he actually upgraded me to a corner SUITE! Not only did he accommodate me with water, a giant fan tower, a couple of complimentary beers, but he had gone above and beyond and gave me a suite for the same rate and allowed me book a couple extra nights in this spacious suite honoring the same rate by booking site I had used!
I was more than pleased. Very ecstatic. I do plan on recommending them to anyone who asks, and I plan on staying again.
I should also mention that all the bathrooms are renovated and each room comes with a GIANT (at least 62” TV) and a 24 hour library and gallery. All employees have been more than pleasant and have made this the best experience of all the hotels I’ve stayed at. I doubt any other hotel will be able to top them and if they do, I can tell you right now it will be very difficult to match this level of service.
Thank you again, I look forward to my next stay!

We ended our Oregon RV experience by spending our last night at the Heathman Hotel. It is beautifully decorated. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The hotel offers complementary bike rentals and afternoon happy hour. We arrived early so our rooms were not ready. The staff kept our luggage in a secure location and even delivered it to the first room that was ready while we were out and about. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Only complaint was that in one of the rooms there were no bathrobes or coffee. The teens didn't need either so no big deal. Our (parent room) room was stocked with robes, tea, coffee. We really enjoyed our night after 10 days of camping. The hotel is also just 2 blocks from Pioneer Square. Great location.

That's about the best I can say about the Heathman. And a couple of employees were exceptionally helpful. And that's it.

The hotel is a solid 3-star experience, on the par with a Doubletree or Courtyard by Marriott. If you come here expecting more you'll be disappointed.

I'm used to seeing carpeted rooms. They replaced the carpeting with vinyl laminate flooring, which is understandably cheaper and easier to keep clean. But again, reminds you that this isn't a choice property.

Like most hotels today housekeeping doesn't make up or clean up your room if you're there under three nights. Pro tip: bring an extra garbage bag from home because the Heathman's tiny waste baskets fill up quickly.

I'm most perturbed by the hotel's $30/day facility fee. It includes wifi, one diet coke or water during their Happy Hour, discounts on a bag of Doritos, etc. Of course everyone who travels recognize that the "facility fee" is just another revenue stream for the property. But at least give the customer something of value for the $30. Perhaps a gift card for the adjacent chocolate shop or something to show you're in a nicer hotel than the Hampton Inn like a flower arrangement in your room at check in.

Overall, meh. There are better choices at better rates in Portland.

Thank you for your response CheapGuyLA. The Heathman underwent a full renovation of all of our guest spaces in 2018, we now boast upgraded features such as our carpet-less floor and our rooms are instead furnished with a plush rug, greatly reducing bacteria and unwanted odors in addition to enhancing our guest rooms. While we have currently adjusted our housekeeping procedures to every 3rd day, we are always more than happy to provide additional linens, towels or garbage replacement at any time simply upon request. The Guest Amenity Fee has become very commonplace, and here at the Heathman allows us to continue to provide personal and meaningful experiences for our guests. Our evening social beverage hour, library with over 2600+ selections, morning coffee kickstart services, enhanced and select guest room coffee and tea options, as well as a $5 credit per night towards our lobby kiosk allows our guests to enjoy a boutique experience with elevated options around every corner. I do hope we have the opportunity to host you again in the future, we hope to see you next time you're in Portland!

We ave been staying in this hotel for many years. It is under new management and its former well deserved reputation is tarnishing fast. There is the usual ridiculous charge for services. The bed sheets were not made when we checked in and the room was not thoroughly cleaned in the time we were there. Towels were changed in the bathrooms but the counters were not wiped. Floor not swept.

The Headwaters remains a good restaurant but with a more limited menu.

Had a 1 night stay reservation. Once we got there, the front desk area was quite narrow (especially with luggage) but had lavish appointments. The staff at check in was not friendly and very pretentious. Once we got to our room, it was nicely decorated but quite small for the price. Plus almost everything cost a fee, so keep an eye out for that. We grabbed a small appetizer from the restaurant to try it out, the food was overpriced and not good. Our server was cold to us, similar to the front desk staff, and it took us more than once to flag him down in a non busy restaurant, he never checked in on us. We walked around the city for a bit because we were there on business. I got back to the hotel restaurant, and asked if I could have a cup of water. The bartender told us they were not allowed to give out a cup or glass of water, even for hotels guests. I said what if I bring my own cup, they said no, hotel policy. We checked out the next day, only to find out that the hotel charged us a resort fee and additional fees for services we didn't use. So that was a struggle.

Pros: They have a beautiful library area that you can sit in and borrow a book to read while there and get work done quietly.

Cons: Everything else about the hotel unfortunately. Overall this place is over priced and the staff is not friendly at all. If you have to stay here, please triple check your bill, lots of duplicitous fees. I won't be returning and cannot recommend.

I stayed at the Heathman Hotel 8/5 - 8-9 and unfortunately was incredibly disappointed with their lack of service.
While I understand some policies have had to change due to COVID, they’ve taken it to a level to avoid providing basic hotel services.
I stayed for 4 nights, none of which my room was serviced (coffee refreshed, garbage taken out, fresh towels) without me having to ask multiple times.
Our air conditioning wasn’t working in our room the first night and they told me I could open the windows and brought up a box fan.
They don’t have room service, and the restaurant is closed, meaning there is no onsite dining.
I tried to talk to a manager about this, but was told they weren’t in and would call me. I’ve called 5 times over the last week and half with no returned call.

Save yourself the money and stay at the Hilton across the street.

Sadly, this hotel is suffering greatly and I cannot recommend it at all. I should have known from our check in and the manager bringing our luggage to the room that something was afoot. As it turns out, the carpet in our room was extremely dirty with lots of hair (both pet and human) and dirt, we had one robe instead of two, the shampoo/conditioner bottles were only 1/4 full and there was only enough coffee for one day (after being told there was no daily maid service). We politely complained about these issues and received a very delayed response. The carpet was NEVER vacuumed , the amenities were refilled and an additional robe delivered 12 hours later (after multiple requests) and I brought the coffee container down to the lobby to be refilled myself. In addition, the exercise room was extremely dirty and the container with the cleaning wipes was completely empty. The restaurant remains closed. Due to all these issues, I checked out a day early and went to another hotel. If the hotel cannot provide basic services, then they should not be open and charging high rates for their rooms. Buyer beware!

I just stayed at the Heathman Hotel this last weekend. It was my first time to Portland (city is amazing), and I had high hopes for this hotel as it seems customer service here is spoken very highly about. I payed for my package through Expedia, and was well aware that I would be charged a resort fee at check-in which is totally ok. After checking in, I get an alert from my bank account that I was charged 519$. Surprised, I go back to the desk to figure out what happened, and a different hotel clerk is there now. She tells me that is some sort of security/insurance fee of 100 per day in case anything should happen. I was shocked, what sort of hotel PRE-charges their guests for damage that has not even happened, and to be quite honest, it really makes me feel as a customer that I am not trusted upon check in. Not only did the previous attendant not tell me anything at all about that charge, the girl standing in front of me offered no apology, no smile, nothing after I expressed my concerns that at the LEAST I should have been informed about it before being charged. And to my surprise I turn around and there is the original clerk who helped me upon check in, looking nervous in the corner. He also offers no apology to me even as we take the same elevator back up with him to our room. It’s insane to think guests here are charged so much extra up front, when that money could have been used for food and experiences during my stay in Portland. Also, I haven’t even been refunded the money yet after checking out. Really disappointed with the secret charges and service here. I love Portland and I’ll be back, but at a different hotel.

This hotel was recommended to me by my cousin, a long-time resident of Portland. Great recommendation! The attentions, the detail, the warmth and hospitality fo the hotel are amazing. Every evening, around 6:00 pm, a free cocktailmis offered, highlighting regional spirits. The event is hosted in the amazing library, which prides itself in housing over 2500 first edition boos, all signed by their authors. The ambience is magnificient. The restaurant attached to the hotel has won "Ched of the Year" and has delicious menus and seafood. The hotel location is perfect and the staff even walk around in the evening, offreing nightcaps to the guests. Just a lovely place, with an amazing vibe. We will return.

We wondered about this "resort fee, as well, but unfortunately we had already checked out. Argh! Since they are still remodeling the workout room is closed. But they did offer us a pass to go to some workout facility a few blocks away! Well, that's NOT convenient! Many other luxury hotels include a number of these niceties in their basic fee, with no added surcharge. Odd.
