Moxy Portland Downtown is celebrated for its hip and vibrant atmosphere, drawing guests in with its stylish and Instagrammable lobby. The hotel's cleanliness earns consistent praise, as does the friendly and attentive service that often exceeds guest expectations. Although the rooms are recognized for their comfort and chic decor, some visitors mention they are on the smaller side and can be noisy.
While the location is deemed central by many, opinions are split regarding convenience versus noise levels. Amenities like Nespresso machines add a touch of comfort despite concerns about room size and the cost of parking.

Detailed Reviews
Moxy is a very trendy hotel with excellent service. The check in counter doubles as a bar, and when you get there, you get two free drink tickets (a definite bonus). My husband and I sat at the bar for a couple hours, where Chris Silva was bartending, and he was truly fantastic. He gave us local recommendations for eateries, chatted with us about Portland, and made some truly delicious craft cocktails. Definitely visit the bar. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough -- they are small, and the walls are thin, but Marriott does all it can to offset that with a white noise machine and, should you need them, earplugs. Luckily, we had quiet neighbors and weren't bothered at all. A really great place to stay, we'd definitely go back.

Fantastic location right in the heart of the Pearl District walking distance to shopping, coffee, food, nightlife. The bottom floor is a bar/lounge area with comfort food available 24/7. Very quirky/Portland decor. The staff was fantastic, shout out to Kevin!
My only complaint is that on weekends, the rooms can be noisy. It is pet friendly and we could hear a dog yapping for hours as we were trying to go to sleep. The traffic and street noise was also audible. We arrived on a Thursday night and did not have the noise issues as we did through the weekend. The rooms are quite narrow with only about two feet of space from the end of the queen bed to the wall. They definitely make the small space functional with a fun twin junk bed over ththe queen bed which can be fun for kids....not sure about an adult. Beds are just a matress on a platform. Not the most comfortable.
Overall, a really neat hotel in a perfect location on the corner with free street parking overnight until 8am. Good covid precautions throughout and everything felt clean and safe. I would stay here again.

Thank you for your honest and thoughtful review. We are quickly fixing any noise issues by adding sound machines, ear plugs, and working with guests who may be disrupting our other guests. We do have thoughtfully designed + cozy guest rooms that appeal to the FUN at heart, thank you for pointing that out! We are glad you enjoyed your stay, come back soon!

I came down to Portland from Seattle for a couple nights of concerts and the Moxy was the perfect location for my stay; 2 blocks away from Living Room Theater, and 3 blocks from Powells! As we entered the hotel we were greeted by Megan who was so kind while checking us in. She had a fun and enthusiastic approach to my friend and I.
After checking in, my friend and I went to our separate rooms to get settled. The room was perfect for me, with a decent view. After a quick nap, my friend and I went down to the lobby to trade in our drink ticket received upon check-in. Conan, the bartender, made really great suggestions and while I got a simple sparkling wine, my friend got one of the signature cocktails. I tasted it and Conan made a great blend. It was so delicious.
My friend headed to night 1 of 2 concerts, and upon returning to the hotel we decided to have another beverage before heading to bed. Conan was still there and made me one hell of a drink. It was close to closing so I was able to take my drink back to my room, which was perfect. Before heading up, I noticed the night front desk person interacting with some other guests and I was really impressed with the way they treated the guests. I asked for their name so I could leave them a glowing review. Emory deserves all the recognition they receive.
The following night, after concert 2 of 2, my friend and I decided to get another drink before going to bed and Conan and Emory were both there. They made us feel welcome and really comfortable. We ended up chatting for a couple hours and I feel like we really got to know them. It was a perfect ending to our trip! Seriously, the best staff I've interacted with at a hotel in years. Major kudos to the whole team.

The walls are paper thin, so unless you plan to be the latest one up on your floor, good luck sleeping. I had a feeling I was in for a bad three nights of sleep when they provided earplugs.
They were too cheap to finish the rooms correctly and you can hear EVERYTHING from your neighbors.
If you do have to stay here request a room on the top floor corner so hopefully you have fewer neighbors.

On the plus side, the rooms were clean and the lobby has a modern, interesting vibe. The rooms are small, studio-like spaces and were very clean and modern looking. The location is convenient.
While I have stayed at hotels (generally 2-3 star) who had earplugs in the rooms to mitigate street noise, this was a red flag for the significant downside. Unfortunately, this hotel comes with the privacy of a hostel. The walls may as well be a curtain. On the better mornings, we were woken by the neighbors iPhone awake alarm (not the siren, the quiet, calm wakening), and if not that, opening the blinds. On the more unpleasant times, we were woken by the neighbors having a quiet conversation. The ugly was hearing E V E R Y sound of their "intimacy". When asked for a room with no one next door (in all fairness to our neighbors, they weren't being "loud"), we were offered another pair of earplugs. Thanks...
I would strongly avoid at all costs.

This was our second stay at Moxy in Downtown, and we had a great time! At the front desk, Philip remembered us and was super helpful every day. He even gave us an extra drink ticket to celebrate us closing on our new house.
The rooms are small but comfortable, and the vibe in the lobby is so pleasant with a great area for reading or working and another for socializing. Even though the valet parking is a touch expensive it is worth every penny, as the drivers are quick and professional - just make sure to request your car early because it can be busy!

The hotel is very centrally located in downtown Portland. We stayed for 5 nights. The rooms are small and they don’t offer breakfast for even their Titanium members, but there are delicious food options within close walking distance. Jake’s across the street was a wonderful option and the hotel gave us a free appetizer coupon to use there. I would have rated this hotel as a 3 star if it wasn’t for Eric, the most amazing staff member in the hotel! Eric checked us in with a smiling face and went above and beyond to make sure we received our extra towels, hangers, luggage holder and water…even though he was left all by himself to take care of check-ins, bar, and housekeeping! What a truly caring example of amazing customer service! Some of the staff were not as friendly, especially Tim who refused to even give water to titanium members without charging! Therefore, Eric’s outstanding customer service on each of the days we saw him would make me want to rate this hotel a 5-star!

The positives are the location being close to the pearl district and lots of good coffee shops. They view was also amazing. But the positives are limited to these. The negatives are long. You can hear everything from the rooms next door. Blinds going up, every word they say, the TV loud and clear. There is something seriously not right with the sound proofing. There is not a single hanger in the room so no closet either. There is a single chair in the room and a cheesy folding desk. The other bedside table was 90% filled with a telephone. One of the blinds went off track every time we opened it. The bathroom has a barn door so prepare to each everything your partner is doing in there. There is no garage from the hotel, you are on your own for finding parking. The free drink
This is a budget hotel with colorful lighting in the lobby. Don’t fall for it.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review! We are currently adding sound machines to all guest rooms to combat any noise issues that may arise due to noisy neighbors. We are also offering ear plugs by request. Moxy is known for its cozy European design in our guest rooms. We offer hanging hooks, three hangers, and under the bed storage in every guest room. While we aren't for everyone, we do make sure and welcome our guests like friends and inspire a fun vacation while in the City of Roses! Thank you again for your feedback. Have a great day!

I stayed at the Moxy after I lost power at my house, and it was a very pleasant stay and refuge for me and my little kitten, Leo! The beds are really comfortable, the rooms are equipped with a nespresso machine and there is a supply closet on each floor that is equipped with extra amenities. The boutique style of the hotel and room made it a lovely home away from home. There is also a very delicious sushi place called Let’s Roll in the lobby. This hotel is conveniently located walking distance next to some of Portland’s greatest treasures, Nong’s Khao Man Gai chicken and rice, Everyday Music and Powell’s Bookstore. There is also a CVS and Whole Foods nearby. The cleaning staff keep the rooms and common areas very clean, and the lobby front of house are incredibly kind and accommodating, Mary especially was a pleasure to talk to and was very welcoming from the start. My family has also stayed at this hotel in non-emergency situations and the Moxy is easily becoming my family’s preferred hotel of choice when in Portland.

It’s hard to understand so many things about this hotel. While the lobby is quite hip and the bar seemed like a popular scene in the evening, the hotel itself is baffling for the price. No insulation, tiny rooms, strange bathroom (toilet where you would otherwise stand), outlets that don’t work, no closet, rock hard bed, the list goes on. So many noise issues that they placed a sound machine on the wall as “added value”???? While the gym was quite decent it was hard to find other things to like.
If the strategy is for guests to stay one time and not return, the strategy is right on.
While the economics may not work, the best strategy to make this hotel work is to consider the pricing. For an experience this cheap, charge accordingly. Maybe if guests feel like their getting a great deal it would be easier to pass over the multitude of issues.
Worth noting that the people working front desk were lovey. No critique of the staff whatsoever. The head scratcher is the property itself and the strategy. Why????
