The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of several places. The lobby area was impressive, the bar staff and check in staff were friendly and super helpful. The room was nice, clean and the bed was very comfortable.

I live in Portland, and it’s relatively uncommon for me to spend a night in a local downtown hotel. For a number of reasons I had the occasion to do so recently, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try out the brand new Hyatt Regency. So glad I did!

The location is across the MAX light rail line from the Oregon Convention Center (hence the name of the hotel). The front entrance is right around the corner from the convention center light rail stop. So, access from PDX and to the city center are simple!

Pros:
1. Spacious public areas with a minimalist, contemporary design.
2. Thoughtfully designed, though compact, rooms are super comfortable. Motion-controlled soft floor lighting under the perimeter of the bed and leading to the bathroom makes it easy to access the bathroom in the middle of the night. A heavy sliding door can separate the sleeping area from the bath/dressing area and room entrance. The shower and toilet are in their own glass-enclosed areas on either side of the sink and mirror.
3. The fitness room is amazing: Six treadmills, four elliptical, two standard bikes, two spinners, two rowing machines, and the usual weights.
4. Very friendly young and attentive staff. Perhaps this is due to “new hotel enthusiasm,” but for now it’s wonderful! (I lost an iPhone on light rail, and the staff bent over backwards to help me reach TriMet to get assistance).

Cons:
1. None really!
2. The Hyatt Regency doesn’t have an intimate feel. Of course, it’s a convention hotel, so this isn’t terribly surprising. Finishing touches, however, make this feel less like a cookie-cutter business hotel.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Hyatt Regency again and will certainly recommend it to friends and family visiting Portland.

The staff was so friendly and helpful with accommodating my requests and needs for early check in, having boxes shipped to the hotel, shipping boxes from the hotel, etc. Room was mostly clean. Everything was brand new, very sleek and modern looking. Very little sound heard inside the room from other guests or street. Nice lobby to hang out in.

Despite being a brand new hotel, this was our worst experience at any Hyatt chain. Beginning with their parking which is located on the opposite side of the entrance. Pushing luggage in rainy Portland up a steep hill is less than ideal. The door adjacent to the garage is locked so you have to walk basically around the block to get into the building. On top of that they charge $28 a day but only if you plan on not using your car. If you want in/out privileges you pay the hourly rate or they recommend the valet which is $36 a day. Next big issue is the bathroom. There is almost no privacy. The bathroom has an open vanity area and shower is to one side and the toilet to the other. Both have frosted glass doors to separate them from the vanity but don’t go all the up and area open is wide open above. The toilet door doesn’t even lock. The bathroom area is completely open to the hall/entry way of the room. The dressing area has a sliding door that separates it from the sleeping area but again no lock. So if you are modest or shy in any way way, this isn’t the place for you. My boyfriend and I have been together 5 years and I still like to be able to lock my door when I’m on the toilet and I certainly don’t like the idea that he can see through the frosted glass and see my shadow on the toilet or have the top completely open lol The bedding was awful, sheets felt scratchy like burlap and the pillows were so flimsy it made it difficult to sleep. Towels had a weird smell, like dirty rags or cheap soap. Finally the location isn’t really walking distance to where we wanted to be. If we were going to a concert or event then it would be the perfect location. But we ended up taking Uber to the sites downtown. So between Uber and the extra $28 day for parking, we calculated that it would be cheaper and more convenient to stay at one of the nicer hotels in the heart of the city. I gave one star bcuz it was new and clean but had a cheap Ikea feel. Nothing felt luxurious AT ALL...For us this was a complete miss and will not be staying here next time we are town!

This is a new hotel and intensive training to staff as necessary! The front desk took my credit card and charge me for someone else’s room. Then re-charged me for my room that was supposed to already be paid for. Took multiple hours of my time to get corrected and the staff did not seem to care about the inconvenience. I tried to order room service but the restaurant ran out of most menu options.I was able to eat in the restaurant the second night. The food was OK but the waiter was surprisingly amazing. Any requests for additional towels or a necessary items takes over an hour to be delivered to the room. Give this hotel at least a year to work out all of their kinks before saying there!

I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for Valentines Day and stay at a really nice hotel in Portland and bring him to the Winterhawks game at the Moda Center. This hotel has been open for about 2 months, and I got a pretty good deal on a room. It is also just a quick 5 minute walk to the moda center which was great.

The inside of the hotel is beautiful and new.

We had a king bed in our room, and we loved it. The bed was comfortable, and it had everything we needed, but the room set up was kind of weird. There isn't much privacy in the room in regards to the bathroom. There is no actual fully closing door that hides the toilet. If you want any privacy, you need to ask the person you are with to go into the bedroom area and close the sliding door. Kind of awkward, but everything was super nice. I also wished that the shower head could move more. You have to stand pretty close to the wall when showering which feels weird.

Aside from those small things, we enjoyed our stay very much! Like I said, a beautiful hotel, I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful new hotel. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. I really like that they have a slider door that separates the sleeping area from the entry area and bathroom. Nice for privacy and getting ready without waking up my husband and son. The automatic lights at the foot of the bed and underneath the bathroom vanity are a nice touch if you need to get up in the middle of the night. There is a nice amount of storage too. There is a shelving unit with a bench seat built in and a nice large area for hanging up clothes.

We also had club access. The club is a beautiful space with enough seating for about 50 to 60 people. We never saw more than 10 people in there. Throughout the day they have a really nice variety of food and snacks. Too much to list in this review, but you will not be disappointed with the choices.

We are looking forward to staying here again!

The location is great for conferences and is right across from the tram stop, but be aware that also means you will hear the train all day and night if you are on that side of the hotel. Everything is clean and the staff are very nice. There are no good places to eat nearby and when we rode the train to find food, we were accosted by mentally ill people every single time, so that was upsetting, but not the hotel's fault. The on site shop is very limited in what it sells and is super expensive. Until the area fills in with more dining/shopping options, it would be nice for that on site shop to widen what it offers and lower prices. The bed was really comfortable, but the train noises make it hard to sleep, even with ear plugs. I gave the hotel a low rating and cannot recommend it due to the fact that there is no dresser and no door on the bathroom. As a hotel right next to the convention center, they expect business guests, as I was. When traveling for business, one usually wants to look nice and to also not expose any work colleagues to their medications, tampons, bras, panties, makeup, etc. Without having a door on the bathroom, nor a dresser, everything you brought to the room is on display. There was a very large, ground level, open faced drawer, which I thought must be for shoes or raincoats, but that was the only drawer in the whole room, so everything must go in there in one big jumble. All clothing you bring must be hung on an open bar without any closet door, also in full view to anyone visiting your room. There are no nightstand drawers either, so medications, eye drops, ear plugs, nose sprays, condoms, etc are also out on display. I never thought bathroom doors and drawers were optional in hotels and will be making a point to ask ahead if a hotel has these or not for future hotel stays.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I apologize that the open layout with the barn door between the bedroom and entrance/bathroom area as well as the open dresser made for an uncomfortable stay for you and your colleague. As the Max stops right in front of the hotel there is some noise, however, we will always do out best to accommodate any quiet room request.

Fixing my original review because I posted it on mobile and it messed up my ratings.

Super easy to get to for public transit from the airport. Great and friendly staff. LBGTQIA+ welcoming. Food on site is super expensive, so I'd recommend going out and getting your own but there's a bunch of great options within walking or rideshare distance. The rooms also have plugs that are within easy reach of the bedside and desk which was really nice for work travel. The floor I was on was super quiet throughout my stay. Loved the walk-in shower and little motion activated lights on the bed frame so that I didn't have to turn lights on late at night. Would definitely travel here again for business or pleasure.

I recently stayed at the Hyatt in Seattle, so I decided to give the one in Portland a try as I wanted to get away for the weekend. I had a fantastic experience in Seattle, so I figured Portland would be the same, and I'm happy to say it was. I am not a picky or demanding traveler by any means, but this Hotel often goes above and beyond to make you feel at home.

Upon arrival if you are parking you have the option for valet parking, or to self park, which are in the same parking garage. The self park is about $10 cheaper a day. Check in process was easy, I believe they even give you the option to check in from your phone, however I usually opt for seeing someone at the front desk. The building is relatively new, so it has a modern feel, and is very clean. In the lobby they have a bar, restaurant, and even a 24 hour convenience store.

I arrived to my room and it was exactly as pictured on the website. It was clean, modern, and sleek. Including amenities such as an iron, a fridge, closet space, etc. The room has a sliding door that allows you to partition off the bathroom area if needed, which I thought was a nice touch. I enjoyed the bed, I thought it was super comfortable! The room also included cable TV, on a HUGE TV, and free WiFi as well. They preformed a "wellness check" on me during my third night, not sure if it was because I had my do not disturb sign up the whole time, or if it was because I didn't really leave my room on the 3rd day I was there. I thought it was interesting, I understand the intention, but I was caught off guard.

I ate at the restaurant for dinner one night as I wasn't feel well, and did not want to leave my room. I went with the Burger and Cheesecake, it was brought up relatively quick considering it was a busy night for them. Food was good, a little on the pricier side, but that is expected for a Hotel restaurant.

Overall a great stay, I've recently grown fond of the Hyatt, and will continue to stay with them in whatever city I go to!

What is the cost of a cab ride from the airport to the hotel.
Answer from Conner B
Thank you for your question. On average, taxi cab rides from PDX International to our hotel will cost $30-$35, and take about 25-30 minutes. The MAX light rail is a fantastic alternative, departing from PDX and arriving right outside out hotel. Tickets are $2.50 for a 2.5 hour pass, or $5 for an all-day pass, and the trip will take about 30 minutes.

How much does car parking cost overnight?
Answer from olegugri

$20 for self-parking/$36 for valet. I used valet for my 2-month stay. It was very convenient and the drivers went above and beyond - opening doors or carrying your items to the car when you just needed to store something. I did have to call 10-15 min in advance but that was never an issue. For the size of the hotel and the number of people staying there, it was kind of expected. It was only that busy when there were events at the convention center next door.
