At the last minute, I needed a hotel to crash for the night. I ended up at The Hoxton at 2:30am, where I was greeted by a super-friendly Alex who calmed my nerves after arriving frazzled (from searching for hotels) and exhausted. And checking out with Steven at reception was like checking out with a buddy. Courteous, thorough and super down-to-earth, Steven went the extra mile in ensuring my stay was as perfect as could be. Case in point: after informing Steven that the room’s heating system kept me up, he genuinely felt sympathy, informing me that his colleague Alex could would have bent over backwards finding me a quieter room (I believed it) and, as a result of my sleepless night, he gave me a discount off my rate. On top of that, he said I could hang about in the hotel lounge as long as I want, no rush, and he even held my bags while I wandered around The Pearl District. What a star. Both hotel staff were great but Steven, in particular, deserves not only a pay rise (especially for putting up with my constant questions and inarticulate babble (from no sleep)), but a Christmas bonus and two days off. Just do it, y’all!

I stayed in the Snug which was their smallest room. I was perfectly fine with the room size and it was clean. The room offers a complimentary mini-bar which is nice. The food at the Lovely Rita, their restaurant downstairs, was delicious as well as the service. The front desk people were nice. Location wise it's right in Chinatown and within walking distance from Powell's Bookstore and the Chinese Garden. Now the not-so-great...the room is very drafty from the windows. I normally like to keep my curtains up but the bed is right next to the window and it was so cold I had to put the curtains down just to warm up the room. While there was a heater it didn't really do much. The day after Thanksgiving their kitchen staff didn't show up till the evening so I couldn't get breakfast. Also, it would be great if streaming services were available on the TV. Lastly, there are a lot of homeless people in the area, including tents right outside of the hotel entrance (not the hotel's fault but still worth noting).

One of my best hotel experiences! Everyone was extremely friendly from the front desk staff to the wait staff in the restaurants. Also special shout-out to Devyn for being helpful and extremely accommodating. She was awesome and definitely helps solidified my opinion in making the Hoxton my go to place to stay whenever I am in Portland.

When we walked in we immediately felt welcome and we admired the style of the hotel (reminds us Jazz and 30s). One of the highlights of our stay was dinner at Tope (Hoxton rooftop restaurant) and late drink and brunch at Lovely Rita. Everyone from hotel personnel was very nice, welcoming and helpful which add up to our pleasant stay. Only problem with this hotel is its location - there are some tents on the street right next to the hotel. Other than that, famous Voodoo donuts (I think there are some better donuts in the city but if you want to check it out of your list, I don't blame you :-D) and some bars, food trucks, breweries are very close to the hotel. Despite its unfortunate location, we would stay at Hoxton again.

I was welcomed with a handwritten note and the radio softly playing a local station. The Hoxton is beautiful, the staff are amazing, and the room was comfy. One of the best hotel showers I have ever experienced. The location was fantastic (and felt very safe)! Easy access to anywhere you’d want to go, with so much within walking distance.

The staff is top notch and Topa is great. The rooms are pretty small and not all of them have desks, which isn't great for a work trip. Old timey style. The location is in an area with a lot of unhoused people, so if that's an issue for you, be aware. I was fine with it, no issues, and there are some great restaurants and bars nearby.

Love this hotel. So cozy and convenient. I definitely will be staying here again. It has a parking lot right behind it which is perfect and is right next to the Roseland Theater. Even for the size of my small room (single bed, snug room) they still provided a private bathroom which was very roomy and nice inside.

We had an amazing time! The front staff was incredible, I think the person helping us was named Devyn, and they were so kind and made our experience especially meaningful. I found the Hoxton on Hotel Tonight and I wasn't sure what to expect. Devyn at the front desk upon our arrival was so kind, thoughtful, gave many recommendations, and made us feel so welcome! They were absolutely the highlight of our visit. They were able to find us a room for two when I thought I had reserved that and hadn't by accident. They were so happy to work with us and let us know all the amenities available during our stay, I absolutely recommend staying at this cute hotel with lovely rooms and excellent staff that make you feel at home!

Trendy décor, good smelling toiletries, good food and drinks at the bar, wonderful staff! The rooms are small, which you can see from the pics. Request an internal room for a better night's rest. The street-facing rooms (I was on the third floor) are very loud throughout the entire night.

I’d never stayed in a Hoxton hotel before (there are four in the U.S. and five in Europe), so I chose this one when my husband and I were in Portland for three nights visiting friends. It was boutique-y and overall, pretty nice. I booked a "Roomy View" room, which was a corner on the 8th floor looking out onto downtown and the back of the Portland sign. The room was on the small side, but had nice midcentury design and an extremely comfortable bed. The little details were nice: a vintage radio on one of the nightstands playing music softly when we arrived, and an electric water kettle with a selection of excellent Smith tea for our use. (You're also given two complimentary cans of water every day.) I loved that all the overhead lights in the room, including the modern chandelier over the bed were on dimmers, so you could make it as bright or as moody as you like. The bathroom was very large, with a black-tiled shower. We didn't eat at the rooftop restaurant, but did get our coffee at the ground-floor coffee bar in the morning, which served excellent local bagels and other breakfast items. We had no issues checking in or out, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Instead of using the hotel valet, we parked our rental car in the lot just down the block (Couch/5th), which was $12-$15 for 24hrs with in and out privileges. There weren't any big problems at the Hoxton, just some odd choices. Most notably was the tiny, single sink in the large, roomy bathroom. Considering we could've comfortably played a three-man Twister game in there, the ratio of sink to square footage was laughably small. I splashed water all over the floor washing my face at night. There was also only a tiny ledge, maybe a foot long and maybe six inches deep for toiletries. The small racks that held the towels over the toilet couldn’t hold travel-sized items (they’d fall right through), so we put most of our stuff on the window ledge on the other side of the room. Weird. There was a small clothes closet off the main room, but it was pretty short, so long coats crumple up at the bottom. Also, no luggage racks, and no housekeeping. Anything you need, you have to request. I’d gotten used to that during the pandemic, but at this point expected some daily service (make the bed, check the toilet paper, empty the garbage). Over the course of our stay, we paid between $220 and $260/night. I'd read on TripAdvisor that downtown Portland didn't fare well over the pandemic, with a lot of stores closing and the homeless population exploding. I don't know about the stores, but the homeless situation wasn't anywhere near as bad as Los Angeles or San Francisco. Didn't think it was that terrible, especially since lots of people are still trying to recover post-Covid. I certainly never felt unsafe. One hot restaurant tip: I had a fantastic meal at Kachka, just across the river on the NE side. It serves what you'd call modern Russian, I guess, which is definitely not my thing, but it was truly great. Order the rack of lamb.
