Really enjoyed my stay in PDX and at the Royal Sonesta. I had stayed there in its previous life as the Kimpton Monaco. While the property, room and accommodations were all just fine. It was the staff that made my trip, particularly Hannah and Erin in the restaurant/bar. They were fab, smiling at breakfast, smiling and conversational at the after dinner cocktail, made me feel like family, completely. Good souls and good on you Sonesta for staffing good people.
From the moment I arrived I felt welcomed and valued. Joel and Scott at the front desk are rock stars! Super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The meetings team knocked it out of the park. Erin, Casey, Stephen were phenomenal and Chef blew us all away. Can’t wait to come back when the restaurant reopens. Big rooms. Wonderfully decorated! It’s in a great location too. Walkable to everything. Give it a try. You’ll be happy you did!
I love this hotel. I began coming here years ago when it was under the Kimpton flag. Sonesta has kept up this beautiful, charming and perfectly placed hotel. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are cozy, quiet and well appointed. If you have the time, hang out in the lobby by the fire. Perfect for your morning coffee or doing a bit of laptop work. One of the few hotels to still have such an inviting place other than the restaurant. The only problem I had was in the restaurant, Finch on 5th. The bartender is very nice. The rest of the staff seemed sort of annoyed we were there. You can see into the kitchen so back of house is visible, too. I get that we are all ramping up personnel from Covid and that downtown Portland is suffering a bit, but still… We were the only table seated. Two of us for a light dinner around 6pm. Hamburger and bacon were both burnt. When I pointed it out to the server he said that it was only on the outside and walked away. I had two bites. Cut it in half to see what the internal temp was…brown all the way through. I had ordered it medium rare. Didn’t eat anymore. The server never returned to check on us or ask about the uneaten burger. The butter lettuce salad was lovely with a really nice vinaigrette. Fries were yummy too. Truthfully, if the server had been nicer I wouldn’t have cared about the mistake in the kitchen.…
I needed a staycation between the holidays and booked a couple of nights at the Royal Sonesta. I was impressed by Finch on Fifth's gin selection, and the cocktails suggested by Shakespear were excellent. I would book my next staycation at this hotel again because, between the ambiance in my room and Finch on Fifth, I was utterly relaxed and hardly had to leave the hotel.
Came out to Portland as a combination work and family holiday and couldn't have had a better experience at this hotel. Greeted with welcome packages in our rooms and the rooms were beautiful, clean and had the best mountain view. Excellent time, highly recommended.
For reasons that will end up as a negative review about a different establishment, our changed plans took us to the Royal Senesta and we were not disappointed. If you are in a similar situation, post up at the bar and let Hannah and Shakespeare turn your night around like they did ours.
Had an AMAZING dinner at the restaurant at the Royal Sonesta (Finch on Fifth). Sat at the bar for a nosh and drinks. Hannah & Shakespeare were exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable ~ 10/10 would recommend!!! Check-in was also a dream. Expedient with on point customer service.
So disappointing. Tiny room. No hot tub, despite confirming over the phone. Got a response email, after reporting the lack of hot tub on booking.com, telling me there are rooms that have a tub-- the grand suites. USELESS INFORMATION now that my stay is OVER. Forget this hotel. The restaurants are always closed, the ice machine was broken. The towel hook fell off the wall when I touched it. Curtains were ripped. CRUMMY.
The finches on fifth restaurant was a pleasant surprise! The food was delicious. The service was absolutely superb! Jennifer was terrifically terrific! What a special mome t. I predict great things for this venue. Keep up the good work!
By far the best decor in any hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms were clean and unique. The lobby area was huge and the staff was nice. I would definitely stay here again just to see another room. It was also in an ideal location.
