We returned after 5 years and it was as amazing as our first visit. As we expected, the service was fabulous - all the staff know who you are by name from when you are greeted at the door. The food was more than plentiful and amazing, with special menus prepared for dietary requirements, and even a toasted sandwich for lunch. We did the off site excursion to Currawong Lake for clay shooting and fly fishing, which was so amazing you need to do it. Saffire organised everything down to the linen tablecloth for the table for lunch. Nothing is too much trouble for Saffire.

Saffire Freycinet does not need another gushing review -- it has plenty, and they are all well-deserved. Having recently visited another luxury accommodation (albeit at a somewhat lower price point), I grew nostalgic for what true luxury is like. We visited Saffire in Sep 2019. It was cold in Tasmania, but we decided to time our trip for a special occasion. Despite the cold, we had a magical, memorable trip. From the little "lounge" at the Hobart airport and the drive to Freycinet, to a lovely welcome in the stunning reception area, to entering the impeccably designed bungalow we felt enveloped in warmth and welcome. That bungalow has become our Platonic ideal of what a home should be like. The flow, colours, finishes, lines, lighting, textures -- all luxurious without being ostentatious, just perfectly welcoming and relaxing. The private little heated pool (heated to something like 31 degrees at our request) was a wonderful additional amenity; enjoyed its warmth under the stars. The food was fantastic. Not three-hat, 9-course degustation sort of fantastic, but rather wholesome, flavourful, and fresh, which was exactly what was needed. The vegetarian breakfast was the best one I've ever had (I had it on every morning during our stay). Another highlight was the oyster farm visit. We were taken to an oyster farm, given special wetsuits and high boots to wade through the water, to a table set up with a white table cloth in the middle of the bay, to eat freshly "caught" oysters from the farm with some wine (and non-alcoholic wine, which was much appreciated by those of us who don't drink). Amazing experience. One small downside I remember is that the water feature in the lobby was very loud and smelled like chlorine, both of which were harsh in odd contrast to everything else that was warm and welcoming. Other than that an amazing, memorable experience. Once we can travel as a couple again or our kid is 12 years old, we are coming back.

We stayed here at the end of March 2021 and it was just fantastic. Having had a taste on the 2020 Federal Group sponsored Variety Tas Bash my wife said your gong to have bring me back here. :) The location, the accommodation, the service, the food, the activities, all exceptional but it was the staff that really made the trip for us. Being locals and having been to Coles Bay on various occasions we decided to do some the Saffire Signature experiences like the Schouten Island trip and the Cocktail cruise as well as shucking oysters mixing cocktails and a visit to the spa ,we had high expectations but they were exceeded. The best place which we have ever stayed. Don't think about going there just do it.

When you have wanted to visit a place for a long time (in this case several years), it’s easy for the dream to set an impossible bar for the reality to reach. In the case of Saffire, it both met and exceeded our expectations. The site is beautiful, with views across Great Oyster Bay to the Hazard mountains and Freycinet National Park. The views are matched by the architecture of the resort: the suites all look across the water to the mountains, and the main building is spectacular. The best thing about Saffire is the service, which is friendly, enthusiastic, and apparently tailored to the needs and interests of every guest. After a wonderful degustation menu on our first night, we were able to create our own menus according to taste and preference. Both the food and the wine were superb. From Ryan’s welcome, to the expertise and personal attention of chef Ian, cocktail supremo Randy, restaurant manager Imogen, guide Rose, Tasmanian Devil carer Nicole, and energy of Gina, Jess, Holly and others in the dining room, we felt like nothing was ever too much trouble, and that our enjoyment was their enjoyment too. Some would say that Saffire is expensive, but what really matters is value for money. Everything is done to such a high standard, but never in an exclusive or exclusionary way, as we have seen over the years in other luxury resorts. Saffire has a very relaxed vibe, and - to us at least - represents the perfect combination of activity and inactivity. We hiked in the Hazards, ate oysters and drank champagne at a table in the bay (yes, in the bay, with water up to our waists), communed with Tasmanian Devils, shook cocktails, learned the tricks of the chef’s trade, and photographed the Milky Way over Great Oyster Bay. We also chilled in our suite, sat by the fire, and ate and drank our own body weights in oysters, cape grim steak and fine wine. Our thanks to everyone at the resort for a wonderful stay. We will return.
