Fantastic location in the heart of wine country. Easy transport links from London and MJ Cars are an excellent firm to book your transfers. From the minute you enter you feel at home, very warm surroundings, friendly welcome and lovely decor. Super efficient reception and check-in/out. Enjoyed a wonderful dinner - food is superb and dining room so gorgeous. Breakfast was fantastic as well with plenty of choice. Service everywhere in the hotel so very efficient! Rooms spacious and very comfortable - slept like a log! Cannot fault it and wish you much more success, you all really deserve it - fantastic owner and excellent team! Thanks a million.
Stayed 3 nights. No heating in room although they did provide an electric heater. The window blind in the bathroom was black with mould and a part of it fell off. The food was ok for pub food but definitely not worth an AA Rosette. There were no vegetarian options other than a mushroom starter. When I asked for a vegetarian main I was told I could have what was on the menu. I ended up eating meat/fish 3 days in a row which is not what I wanted to do. Very disappointing. The breakfast menu had home made granola, berry compote and yoghurt, also croissants and at no point were these available. One of the staff was kind and tried to be helpful.
An overnight stay with friend and a really enjoyable trip. Friendly staff, quaint rooms, and excellent evening meal. The breakfast was good for full English. Reasonable cost and only query was why it was cheaper to book on the website rather than phoning reception. If you're Goodwood way for event, we'd recommend for local stay
On the 6th September I booked a table for 3 (2 adults 1 Child) for the 7th September at 6.45pm because it was the 8th Birthday of our daughter, who was the child in the booking. We chose to eat locally because of her having school in the morning and as we’ve eaten with you before, decided it would be the best option. How wrong we were. Admittedly we were around 5 mins late arriving due to well-wishers contacting her, however meals and drinks were all ordered by approx. 7.00pm. Drinks arrived shortly after. However, at around 7.30pm our daughter started enquiring how long the food would be as she was hungry. We responded with shouldn’t be long now. Again, how wrong we were. A member of staff (the same person that greeted and seated us) came to us at 7.40pm to say there would be a delay in our meals. That a table of 13 was in the other room and the chef was getting their meals out first. Firstly, why were we not informed at the time of ordering that there would be a delay? I’m assuming with a table of that size that they pre-ordered? Therefore, you and your staff were aware in advance of the number of meals and the time it would take to prepare them and get them out. Even if they hadn’t pre-ordered, you were aware of them when you seated us and should have given us a heads up to order quickly or that there could potentially be a delay. Secondly, as someone with over a decade of experience running a hotel, bar and restaurant, we would always have served the smaller table first when a large table was in, especially if that table included a child. It is a ‘quick win’ for the kitchen and front of house staff. We asked how much longer we’d have to wait, and after checking we were informed around half an hour. Whilst this was far from acceptable, given the availability of places to obtain food in the area at that time, we reluctantly agreed to wait. An apology was given along with a comment that they would see what they could do with the bill for us, which I thanked the server for. 30 mins passed and still no food, so I went to speak to the young lady who had been dealing with us. I asked her as 30 mins had passed if the kitchen had started our meals yet. She replied more than likely not as we’ve only just got the table of 13 out. At that point I made the decision to leave and asked her to tell the kitchen not to bother with our meals any longer. When we went to pay for our drinks, I was somewhat taken aback to see that we were being charged full price for our drinks. When I queried this the response I was given was, ‘well I can put it through as 2 larges glasses’ to which I replied thank you that would be appreciated. Which was responded to by your staff member with, ‘well it’s no skin off my nose!’. Then to say to my somewhat distraught daughter as we were leaving, ‘enjoy the rest of your birthday’. Whilst she may not have meant it to sound that way, it came across as very disingenuous and to be quite honest it wasn’t really the best thing to say that to an 8 year old a 8.15pm when she’d been waiting for food for over an hour. We heard from other guests that they’d had similar happen to them during their stay. Others commented on how awful it was that we’d been left sitting there for so long, especially with a youngster in tow. The 2 previous times we’ve dined with you have been lovely and the food was outstanding. I’m sure had we been able to eat on Tuesday it would have been then too. Unfortunately our evening ended with a very upset 8 year old who couldn’t understand why she hadn’t been able to have her birthday treat dinner. Oh and I emailed this for the attention of the General Manager a week ago and i'm still waiting on an acknowledgement... says it all really.…
