The Mercure Birmingham West Hotel is celebrated for its prime location, which offers easy access to highways and the M5, making it a favorite among business travelers and visitors to Sandwell Valley. Guests commend the clean, modern rooms and the hotel's range of amenities including a gym, spa, and pool, though some areas are seen as ripe for improvement.
While the staff earns praise for their professionalism, reviews suggest service can be hit or miss. Travelers report mixed views on value, pointing out reasonable prices but also noting unexpected additional charges.

Detailed Reviews
Let me start by saying I usually stay at The Village hotel but decided to give this one a try. This hotel as air con, the Village hotel does not.
The location is great just off the M5, everything is easily accessible
I booked a twin room, the beds were so comfortable as you would expect with a Mercure hotel.
The room was decorated to a high standard and had everything you need to be comfortable. The only negative which might affect some people's stay is the bathroom, it has a mixer shower so the pressure of the water was very weak. I did speak to reception who informed me that in the near future this will be changed.
The breakfast was delicious, if you want poached eggs just ask, they are happy to please.
This is my now place to stay when visiting family in the midlands.
Shout out to Gerry on reception who goes out of her way to make sure you have the best stay, she is a superstar!
FYI in the Privilege room- you get a mini fridge and bottled water/juices and a modern shower rather than a mixer tap shower

I have been staying here for several weeks during the Covid19 pandemic. The hotel is very clean; it has a welcoming environment and a very subtle character including displays of elegant Aston Martin luxury car history. The hotel is the meeting place of the local Rotary Club.
The rooms are very stylish and agreeable that makes you feel very relaxed. The beds are amazingly comfortable with a firm base for any needs but with a really soft deep mattress topper that offers remarkable nights sleep. The bathroom is clean, very light and bright. The water gets hot immediately and has a very high pressure.
The Manager Garin Dart is omnipresent, helpful and proactive. His team such as Svetlana, Gerry, Victoria, Haley, Inna, Angela, and Aina are wonderfully brilliant. This hotel is definitely worth a stay.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel once we re-open the hotel properly, it would be really great to see you and your colleagues enjoying the restaurant, bars and leisure centre in the future once that is all allowed to open again. The room's are nice size and well equipped with an iron, hairdryer and air conditioning with great smelling soaps, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. I used the gym for most of my stay and it is equipped well enough that I didn't have to adapt my workouts considerably as well as being air-conditioned with cleaning products provided. You can walk to the hotel from the train stations nearby but would recommend an Uber for roughly £5 as you do have to cross some busy A roads

Where shall I start 😢!Booked here for my husband and me 1st/2nd feb, I saw off reviews that leisure/spa facilities wernt working but got a call the sunday before at 9.50pm to tell me they wernt working!! Bit late, we decided to still stay. On arrival we went to front desk, we noticed people sat in coats, we were on 4th floor and as we went on the lift we could tell the place was freezing, all the hall ways smell of damp. We entered the room and the window had been left open and it was bloody freezing, we tried putting heating on but nothing! We noticed an oil filled heater, turned it on and called reception! They came and told us that we could move rooms as heating wernt working! We were going out for tea but we waited in our room until they said when our other room would be ready. 30 mins later she came to tell us that there are no rooms with working heating as theyve had problems! So we would have to stay where we were! I demanded another heater and the lady offered us a free breakfast in return when I started to complain as the room was freezing! The lady did all she could but they have clearly not had heating in a while hence the damp fusty smell in the landings but are still taking bookings off people. Everytime we went near the front desk people were complaining. Breakfast was ok (wouldnt have paid £10 pp though) yoghurt drinks warm under heat lamps and scrambled egg was dry! Cheap sausage!warm orange/apple juice. My husband is a gold member and we have both stayed in lots of mecure and they are normally fab but I'm afraid this just doesnt come up to standard making it an expensive stay tbh! Wouldnt stay again!

Well the place is looking its age but would have looked past that. Not as cheap as a premier inn or holiday inn express but not as good to be honest. One person on reception overwhelmed. In room a bag with one proper coffee one de cafe , so if 2 people wanted one of each they cannot , 2 tea bags and 3 milk and few sugars . No sweetener option or not enough milk for 2. Room clean enough however shower was a fixed head to ceiling so if you did not want to wash hair was awkward. Leaving hotel around 6 :30 pm receptionist overwhelmed on long call on phone queue forming, we gave up. Children screaming from restaurant area. On return at 12:30 amazed to find bar shut at 11 am on a Saturday night and not offered any room service options. Very disappointed as other places in the area open until 2 am. Definitely not value for money . Would not recommend or book again.

Under its previous iteration as The Park Inn there is no doubt this hotel was rather tired and in need of some renovation but so far The Mercure has done only a half job and I cannot recommend it as a place to stay.
On the positive side, the decor in the lobby and the rooms has clearly been upgraded and has a modern vibe, the bed was comfortable and the staff were pleasant.
My major gripe is the totally unacceptable lack of a working shower. I had a over bath shower which had no hot water, after my first night I was told that it was a known problem with the mixer tap and the answer was to leave the cold tap of the bath running while the shower was on, unfortunately the next morning, this did not work due the the shower losing all pressure when lifted up, there was no plug for the bath and as a result I ended up on my knees in the bath trying to wash by sticking my head under the running bath tap. I was not the only person with this problem, there were at least 2 other people at reception when I complained I was offered an apology but no compensation of any sort.
Minor gripes included a chilly room with only a portable radiator and the air con system apparently not working and the corridor and stairs areas still looking tired and tatty.
breakfast was as expected for this sort of hotel with a bland buffet, a colleague had a nice omelette cooked to order, but this was not advertised.
As previously noted the spa and pool are closed, apparently for refurbishment but from the outside there is no sign of any refurbishment going on.
This hotel is very well placed for guests travelling for work or the football at West Brom being very accessible from the M5 and is clearly often busy but until Mercure rectifies the bathroom situation which was clearly not a short term one off it cannot be recommended.

Stayed here for 4 nights as part of a Shearings coach holiday and could not wait to get away. The Shearings Coach tour, Victorian Ironbridge and Shrewsbury, was pretty good, just a shame it was based here.
The hotel is not a 4-star hotel it is a Hostel, the ground floor is being used to house deprived families and is not suitable for them. Living in one room, children have nowhere to run about and play other than in the corridor and outside the bedroom windows (which they did from 7.00 in the mornings). You cannot expect paying customers to share this space. On top of this no hot water to shower for 4 days, no drawer storage in the rooms and only one chair to sit on despite what it shows on their website.
They changed our room after I said to get us a new room or a new Hotel but on entering the new room on the 3rd floor, it had not been cleaned after the last guests left. Apart from receptionist Rad, the staff had the attitude 'the customer is always wrong'. Having to boil a kettle to have a strip-down wash in the mornings is not my idea of a 4 star Hotel.
I've stayed in many Accor Hotels around the world and NEVER had an experience like this before.

Originally booked an overnight stay at the Ibis in Oldbury but due to a boiler fault in that hotel we were informed at 1300 hours that we had been moved to the Mercure West. Having been given the post code for the hotel our sat nav directed us to the dual carriageway alongside the hotel with no means of access. Eventually we found the entrance and were checked in by a very friendly and efficient receptionist (Yvonne I think) who was most helpful. We were allocated room 360 which appeared to have been recently updated. The windows in the room were quite small which, together with the black lampshades made the room appear dark. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were acceptable. The bathroom was a reasonable size with rain shower which had a good supply of hot water but seemed to be lacking in pressure. The air conditioning in the room did not work and although there was a small portable fan in the room it did no more than move the warm air around whilst making a lot of noise. It was impractical to open the window because of traffic noise.
Although the room had been recently renovated there were a couple of items that should have been picked up; the shower controls had no trim strips fitted leaving the fixings exposed, the soap dish in the shower was not secured properly and the shaving mirror had the fixings in place but no mirror fitted. Good job we only stayed one night because there was only one coat hanger.
Breakfast the following morning was good. We were greeted by Kelly who was very efficient and looked after us. Food selection was good and it was well cooked.
This review may appear to be too negative but the items mentioned should have been picked up and repaired.
We enjoyed our stay and the staff were very friendly and professional.

Stayed here, it was ok, generally, except that I was encouraged to pay £10 for breakfast, at reception, who said that it was exceptionally good !
Breakfast was inedible, a help yourself to cheap stuff that had been precooked and kept warm for too long. eg eggs were dried and hard, bacon was covered in white stringy stuff, sausage was cheapest in uk, just breadcrumbs etc, hash browns were soggy and wet inside, bread was sliced basic stuff, everything about it said Cheap, Cheap, Cheap, I ate nothing except a few beans, which were cheap, definitely not Heinz. Abysmal.

Overall a very enjoyable stay... public areas and bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard. Restaurant fine, breakfast excellent value for a cooked meal. Just needs the swimming pool and spa/gym to be completed and re-opened in order to offer the complete package.
