First impressions were fantastic, great looking place and excellent welcome from reception staff, room very nice if bed a bit hard, grounds great. Sadly those first impressions didn’t last long. Bar staff whilst reasonably friendly do not appear to have been trained. We had morning coffee, lunch and drinks during several hours in the bar. Plate, cups etc., were not cleared and then only after we made a second request. Staff appeared to resent management who were surly towards them so we were not surprised. When I returned a glass of Prosecco that was clearly flat girl behind the bar had the cheek to test it herself before providing a replacement! And then into dinner, Basil Fawlty eat your heart out. Took ages to be seated, ages for our order to be taken and then service was ridiculously slow. My wine was delivered only after I reminded them and that was after the first course had been consumed. Restaurant manager was clueless, nobody knew which table had ordered what or indeed which table was what. Our main course arrived, was walked around the dining room and then left again, I assume to go on a tour of the other dining areas, before eventually coming back to us c5 minutes later certainly not as hot as it should have been. Chicken was dry and fillet of beef was sinewy, tough and tasted more like liver. Second drink ordered but after 25 minutes that didn’t arrive so we left. People being asked to move mid way through their meal to make way for a bigger party, table not cleared during service. The whole thing was farcical, we would have laughed if it hadn’t been so tragic. Someone needs to sort out the managers/supervisors and then they need to train their staff to four star level. The Fawlty Hotel theme continued through breakfast, time slot was pre-booked at their request to be told they didn’t have a table for us! Eventually we were seated and 5 minutes later told where we could find food, tea, coffee etc. Food was cold, ran out of several items which no one seemed to care about including bread for toasting. Went back to counter c10 minutes later, still no bread. My wife and I go away several times a year and were looking for a nearby venue where we could perhaps bring our staff for a working weekend, we will just have to keep looking.…
We booked a superior double room which was spacious and well presented. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful throughout. Had dinner on both nights and enjoyed the food both for taste and presentation. Good location from which to explore the local area. Didn't use the spa so can't comment.
A fabulous place to stay, the room was gorgeous, the food was excellent, and the service superb I would not hesitate to go back for a lovely long weekend to get totally pampered and spoiled, Nothing is too much trouble and the facilities are excellent
We stayed here on 8 September for our anniversary. Overall it was a nice stay but I have only given 3 stars for the following reasons: Negatives 1. The Bed was hard and uncomfortable room 272 2. The portions in the dining room were small (one scallop for £9.50!) especially the starter I had 3. They were digging up the path/garden at the rear during our stay which looked unsightly Positives: 1. We were given a room upgrade, a card and a dessert in recognition of our anniversary 2. The massages in the spa were good. 3. Breakfast was good and a nice choice buffet style When I provided this feedback via email I was not even acknowledged!
I had a back massage booked in and from start to finish was fantastic service and very polite staff. Young lady (assistant spa manger) was very kind and made you feel at home, would highly recommend spa treatments or spa days!
