Sadly my husband passed away last month but one of his wishes was for his family and friends to celebrate his life at Chewton Glen. Before his death not unexpected due to the nature of his illness we met with Danielle in Events who helped us plan exactly what my husband wanted and with her assistance everything was put in place on the day and we had a lovely celebration in the Summerhouse This room held fifty of us and is light and airy with large windows overlooking the garden and can be set up in different layouts . Staff were on hand to take coats, replenish the buffet and serve the drinks .
I opted to stay that night with my daughters as Chewton Glen is like a warm comfort blanket and in the evening we sat by the open fire in the bar lounge area , had a bar meal , a few drinks and an early night. We stayed in Room 20 overlooking the outdoor swimming pool heated so it was very popular with young families staying for half term. Our room was very comfortable with sofas and armchair , soft lighting and the beds had the non feather duvet and pillow as requested due to my allergies. The bathroom was huge with a large bath and separate shower and REN toiletries. Anika who showed us to our room took note in conversation that my daughter and I did not drink dairy milk and a few minutes later without asking a porter arrived with a carton of Non dairy milk. We also had a small bottle of champagne, a nice touch as well as chocolates.
Beds are the most comfortable and one of the reasons we enjoy staying at Chewton Glen as we are assured of a good night’s sleep.
Breakfast service next morning was busy but efficient and we enjoyed the buffet fruit and yogurt followed by creamy scrambled eggs and plenty of tea. When we left the porters collected our suitcases from the room and helped load them into the car.
So in spite of it being a sad occasion the day was made more bearable by being so well looked after by the friendly and efficient staff at Chewton Glen.

We spent a weekend here in a treehouse studio suite with our dog. We had a fantastic weekend. The treehouse was beautiful with a lovely view of woodland and a hot tub on the deck. The breakfast hamper and all of the snacks in the room were made vegan for us upon request. We had lunch in the hotel bar a couple of time and had our evening meals in the restaurant which also offered excellent vegan options (they would also have been happy to deliver vegan food to the treehouse).
The staff here are excellent from the team that clean the rooms to the bar staff, the reception staff and the restaurant staff (especially Ari whose warm, friendly attitude was lovely). High quality but not stuck up or snooty!
We walked to the beach a couple of times as well as around the grounds of the hotel. We also had massages in the spa although you can have them in the treehouse if you wish.
This is my favourite hotel in the world, can’t wait to go back.

We were treated to a cream tea at Chewton Glen but were a bit wary due to these strange times we're living through. We need not of worried. Before even entering the building we had our temperature checked, all staff were masked, and the tables were well separated. The tea itself was excellent and plentiful ( that which we could not finish was boxed up for us to take away ). All together a wonderful experience.

We arrived at the hotel and two days AFTER our arrival at Chewton Glen London (where we come from) went into Tier 3. At which point we were told, I quote, “we are not kicking you out but since you are from a Tier 3 you cannot use any of the facilities, so you can leave”. It was a company policy 😂. We were told to enjoy the facilities before midnight when Tier 3 restrictions 100 miles away came into effect, and then sod off. Remarkably, Four Seasons (also in Hampshire) did not have the same restrictions so a bunch of the affected guests travelled there. Communication was poor.

I felt the hotel was over priced for what it was. We paid £700 a night and the room was looking tired. The spa was nice, but also a little old fashioned looking. The food (we ate at the Kitchen) is extremely expensive and most of the cocktails were £20 a pop. I’d say that Four Seasons, which is in a similar price range, was much better overall. Four Seasons also felt more Covid secure - one way systems, better spacing between tables in the restaurant, strict controls at the spa so that a limited number were in a pool (Chewton Glen spa at kids hour was rammed, and the loungers were not adequately distanced), in room things like remote controls were sanitized and bagged and a Covid kit (with masks, hand sanitizer etc) provided, and no staff (eg reception) touched the room keys or entered our room unless for cleaning. Not so here.

We travelled without the kids on this occasion as a treat, but again - Four Seasons was more kids friendly.

Won’t be coming back.

We recently stayed at Chewton Glen to celebrate a special birthday. We had two suites and 3 classic rooms. First impressions were great, with friendly welcoming concierge. However, the same cannot be said for the waiting staff in the hotel. In particular the waiting staff at breakfast took half an hour to serve our drinks, with lots of reminders for our teas and coffees before we received them. We also waited for 20 minutes to place our order for poached eggs, which are offered on their menu. The waiting staff did not engage in, nor start conversation, they didn't smile nor were they very smartly dressed. We stayed for 3 nights and this was the same experience every morning. It was as if the waiting staff were pulled in off the street and asked to wait tables with no previous experience of waiting tables nor working in a 5 star hotel. The lack of service was utterly disappointing. Our rooms weren't cleaned until 5pm - we had called them 3 times during the day with regard to our room being cleaned and then at 5pm when it was time to relax in our room and hot tub, 7 people arrived to clean and replenish our room as they realised it was now late in the day and they should have cleaned the room hours ago. Another disappointment. Our experience was certainly not 5 star and it wasn't what we'd expected from the reputation of Chewton Glen. We will not be rushing back to Chewton Glen - they really need to work on their customer service and customer experience.

Booked a 2 night break after a recommendation. We were really excited when we walked through the door. That’s where the excitement ended. Check in was awful. Took about 15 mins because of a mix up with rooms but it wasn’t handled very well. Second night ate in the fine dining restaurant and had booked a special dinner which turned out to be a wine club dinner which we hadn’t been told about. It was all quite embarrassing and even the really nice guy hosting the dinner asked to see the emails we had received as he was surprised by what we had been told. Because the indoor pool was being renovated and therefore couldn’t be used, guests were being given 20% discount on room rates. We weren’t given this and on returning home had to ask for it, which on a room costing £600 per night is a hefty sum. It has since been refunded to our credit card however. On checkout we were approached by the front of house manager who was very apologetic for the bad experience and again he asked for copies of emails we had received.

On the plus side, overall we enjoyed our couple of days away. The room was lovely, location is excellent with a lovely walk down to the beach. Breakfast was also very good, and most of the staff were very helpful and friendly.

From the minute you arrive the experience is magical......! As if by magic super porter Darren appeared with his trolley to take your luggage to your room, or in our case a croquet lawn suite with a view to make you smile.

The venue is simply stunning, from the lush greenery of the grounds, in their beautiful autumnal colours, to the grand buildings of the main house, the rooms and Spa. Just breathtaking.

The staff make the experience throughout, nothing is any trouble. We had visited last year and had no doubt we would visit again. We just didn't expect it to be even better, but it was. There was a welcome note in the room with fruit, biscuits and a gorgeous bottle of rose wine to toast our anniversary and my wife's birthday, such a lovely touch.

The room was so beautiful, enormous bed and lounge area together with a dressing room and fabulously appointed bathroom with double shower. It was looked after everyday by housekeeping, including a turn down service and replenishing of the rooms treats. All of the lounge areas, bars and corridors just weave you on a journey with treats around every corner.

We spent most of our time in the Spa as it was a fantastically relaxing place with pool, hydrotherapy pools, steam room and lounges to wash all your cares away. Each morning we had a swim followed by smoothie and croissants in the pool bar cafe, looked after wonderfully by the delightful Sarah. She was so friendly, helpful and always chatting to make us feel welcomed.

Another treat comes in the guise of James Martin's Kitchen restaurant that sits in the grounds. You can walk from the main house, but why would you when friendly Porters Mike and Darren are on hand to chauffeur you there in style. 2 really lovely chaps who clearly love what they do.
The restaurant has something for every palette and drink connoisseur, all beautifully presented and deliciously mouth watering. We visited twice during our stay and i devoured the pizza and sumptuous fish (whale) and chips. It was our anniversary and my wife's birthday when we were there and they created a handwritten note with cake and candle - fabulous. Thanks to Chef, Kris and Casey for looking after us.

We took a stroll through the grounds as well which takes you through the woods along to the beach at Barton On Sea, just enough of a walk to build an appetite. Lovely experience that this in with this stunning venue.

It won't be the cheapest holiday you ever book, but that's not why you are here. What it will be is one of the most magical you will ever have!! Thank you

A fantastic anniversary stay at Chewton Glen!

We booked a Sunday Night Package for 2 (including a standard room in the main hotel, full spa access, bed and breakfast), however 2 weeks prior to our stay we received a call from David in Reservations. He explained that the Spa area was undergoing urgent works and would be closed during our stay.

Although frustrated initially, David soon allayed our concerns by offering us a free upgrade to one of their prestigious Treehouse Suites! This included a hot-tub (which satiated our spa needs!) and was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever been through :)

From the porters to the staff on reception to the staff at dinner, the entire Chewton Glen team were friendly, polite and helpful!

A special mention to the delicious meal at The Dining Room, which was fantastic!

Due to the “things that have happened over the last two years, yes we all know “, our 30th Wedding anniversary visit to Chewton Glen as a special occasion had to be postponed but we finally managed our two nights for the first week in April. Prior knowledge of the 5 star rating and of the expected “costs” meant it was to be a “let’s go for it”.
We were not disappointed at all, the welcome, the attention to the clients needs, the impression of top service were all there from the first impressions at the Reception to the offer at the end of our stay for biscuits and water for our long car journey home.

It was an unfortunate coincidence that the days we chose were the ones where the Dining Room was closed for dinner, but we used The Kitchen and found this offering very good food and atmosphere, and a lift there and back by buggy as it is a bit of a trek by foot in the dark evenings. Acts of ..., or at least Storm Eunice, meant that the Par 3 on site golf course was closed for what might be some time as trees were being made safe for future golfers.
What this meant was a visit to the Spa for the day, and this was a superb experience, never have I seen so many towels ready for use, the pool is large enough to allow length swimming, the hydrotherapy pool with its little separate sections was a place to relax fully in, and the Salad bar spread available(at a cost) was excellent, great array of food to choose from, so much that our evening meal on that day consisted of Starters only and some bread !
If we had one area where we felt the hotel could perhaps consider is the breakfast, the Continental section was extensive, but the Buffet hot food section while having good products was a little bland and I had to ask for Vegetarian sausages which I must admit I thought would be readily available, other similar hotels offered a choice of hot breakfast dishes cooked to order, we were surprised this seemed to not be on offer.
Our room was spacious, warm with a balcony and view over the kitchen garden, and was spotless, and the in-room service was precise in ensuring all was in the right state for us.
Our walk to the Headland from the hotel lead us to a lovely Restaurant on the Headland/Cliff where we lunched while gazing over the Solent and the Needles.

Our friends have asked us whether newton is a place to go to, our definitive answer is Yes, but it for obvious reasons , has to be a very special occasion, not one we will be doing every year, what it gives is that relaxed feeling of goodwill, and a sense of life being rather good.

Set in a beautiful estate with so many places with benches to sit and enjoy the views, it is a superb experience, and will have very special memories for us.

Having always previously stayed in the treehouses we opted for the cheaper alternative in the main part of the hotel. the welcome on arrival was v covid friendly and we were lead to our hotel through the dining room which was a bit bizarre. the rooms were beautiful. We took advantage of the tennis facilities which were excellent and hired the bikes for a veuve picnic-which was ruined by downpours. The hotel staff are all v friendly and especially the team on reception however service in the restaurants was nowhere near the levels previously. Dinner on both occasions was disappointing with food luke warm and served at different times and with kids running riot at 9pm at night through the restaurant. We went for breakfast in our room one day but this was v poor with several items missing from what we ordered and therefore dined in the restaurant the following morning late having been told it would be carnage on a sunday morning until 10. Once again service was poor having to ask for missing tea and toast twice and in the end gave up on the toast. So all in all not the best experience this time around-i cant believe it was because we were staying in the hotel rather than tree houses!

Dear Carr1965, Thank you for your review and feedback provided. Firstly, I want to extend my apologies for the service issues you experienced in The Dining Room, this is certainly not the norm and I have addressed your comments with Maurizio, our Food & Beverage Manager who will certainly communicate this to the rest of the team to ensure that further training and corrective steps are being taken to ensure this does not happen in future. Due to currently not being able to accommodate babysitting, we have opened up the family dining to slightly longer dining times than usual. I can assure these issues are not related due to you not staying in a Tree house. I hope to welcome you back soon in the not too distant future, and please do not hesitate to contact me further if you have any further questions. Kind Regards, Andrew C
