Stayed at No 10 the Abbey on the night of 17th October 2020. Booked the room by telephone with the very pleasant Louise, we chose a ground floor room and were offered room 6 the Fairhaven Woodland, which turned out to be a good choice. As reception was not manned when we planned to arrive we were sent two entry codes one for the front door and the other to access the room keys, both worked very well. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room and it's facilities, including the supply of coffee and tea. We would thoroughly recommend this establishment.
Over two weeks since my stay and no sign of my deposit being returned. Have just rung them and they say it was done but a computer glitch (!) meant it wasn’t paid into my account. Mmm? They can do better than that surely.? They should contact the client as soon as it has been repaid and ask the customer to check its gone through. There actions and procedures are poor. Otherwise it was a pleasant stay.
Stayed here for 2 nights for work during COVID-19 outbreak due to it's self-catered nature. My experience has made me question whetther I choose hotel or salf-catered apartment for my next work trip... Kitchen was well kitted out with induction hob, microwave, oven (& grill?), fridge with integral freezer, kettle & toaster. Bathroom was good enough for me but would have been disappointed if I was here for any longer - electric showers aren't my favourite and it is missing a bath. Bed is very comfortable and plenty of plug sockets around the room; something you wouldn't get in a comparably priced hotel! It has a very small gym - not big enough for more than 2 people - but good enough for a quick workout. Certainly would opt to stay here again if I ever find myself in the area.
Had the only twin room, and it is a bit small, but I understand there are much larger doubles. Very clean and I used the kitchenette to bake! The staff were first class, and went out of their way to be extremely helpful, they made the stay that much better for me, and improved my rating. I was always able to park in the hotel's car spaces so was lucky as the nearby road parking was only short term. There are two mobility rooms at the hotel directly accessible from the outside, which may be perfect for some guests. You are right outside the Abbey which is lovely for a morning walk, and the high street with Cafes and shops just a short stroll away. There is also an amazing pub within a stones throw! Good location, I look forward to my next stay when I next visit the area.
The furnishings of the room and property are actually nice. Cleanliness is poor. The maintenance of the property is dire. The staff are rude. 1) a lot of banging noises above the room and could hear ppl coming in & our all through out the night, every single step anyone in the above room would make it could be heard on the first night, literally slept only about an hour that night 2) stains on bed sheets, mildew in the corner of the shower - bought these points up with concierge, was told( abruptly) that it is clean and that the sheets are just stains from laundrette. No offer was made to change them. 3) asked to change room, got shown a much smaller room up 2 flights of stairs, having no lift, stairs are a bit steep. I mentioned to the staff memember multiple times that I don’t know how I would be able to get my luggage up there due to no lift. Not once did he offer to help or that someone would leave it there for me. Was told just to choose which room and leave the key in the key choosing system that I didn’t want. 4) Sunday evening tried to call someone and no one was manning it so had no choice but to spend another night in the downstairs room. But in all fairness the upstairs rooms was dusty, and the oven not cleaned well either. 5) the kettle was full of limescale couldn’t use it, the oven had crumbs didn’t use it. Photos taken of all this. Photo of mildew still present after the shower was cleaned. The tiles in the shower were loose also. 6) large cobweb with a fly in it above the curtain. Yes someone did clean the shower, but still mildew in the corner and someone did change the sheets, but both these things happened only after I had to ask for it to still be done even though I was rudely told that they are clean and cleaned properly. The staff themselves didn’t offer to do either. I emailed the team after my stay and they just voiced how the team did enough, clearly not! How on Sunday I tried to contact them out of hours, no acknowledgment made of the fact that had the room downstairs been up to standard and had someone had the courtesy to offer to move my luggage while I was at work then I wouldn’t have needed to call them after work. On top of that they are criticising that I should’ve mentioned the limescale in the kettle- uhmmmm the room including the kettle and oven should’ve been clean inthe first place! And after work I never saw anyone at the concierge to be able to tell them about the kettle! Really poor stay was really going for MUCH better! …
