Have been meaning to write this review since our brief stay in Dec 20 as it was really rather fab. Huge traditional, comfortable room with a modern bathroom, charming staff, incredible food and a setting to die for, aided by loads of snow. We booked based on its rating, a rating it thoroughly deserves.

There's nowhere to compare with this wonderful hotel. Yes, there are grander venues but nowhere with the tremendous hospitality combined with the exceptional cuisine. The constant strive for perfection in both the owners and staff really is what makes Overwater Hall so special. I swear that the kitchen,if this is at all possible, gets better on each visit. Can't wait to return.

As always, there was absolutely nothing one could fault about Overwater Hall. Even the Covid restrictions could not dent the welcome and the warm friendly atmosphere. I have never had food that could be described as “ mediocre” here - it has always been wonderful. The standard never slips.

We absolutely love this hotel and were so happy to be able to stay again for two nights and enjoy Angela and Stephen’s hospitality and Adrian’s superb food. Despite having to put measures in place for Covid 19, our stay was just comfortable and relaxing as before. We cannot recommend Overwater Hall highly enough, it’s an absolute dream.

We’ve been coming to Overwater for 25 years and it’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s one of the Lake District’s best kept secrets. The service and hospitality is without fault, the rooms are wonderfully indulgent, but it’s the fabulous food that really stands out and the reason people return again and again to this special place. I’ve been to many swish Michelin star restaurants in Cumbria and the rest of the UK, some good and some not so good. But all of them could learn a thing or too from Overwater’s Head Chef Adrian Hyde about creating a truly imaginative and creative menu from the finest local ingredients available in Cumbria. Of course, you may not get your seared scallops served on an old roofing slate, or your venison on a bed of Herdwick sheep’s wool, but if you can live without those experiences in your life, you’ll love the food at Overwater.
