Travelers' Choice
The Crown in Old Amersham, situated at the end of the Metropolitan Line and 40 minutes from London, is the second in a family of modern day coaching inns recently renovated by the designer Ilse Crawford (other works include Babington House). The old timber building is situated in the centre of the historic market town, attracting locals, restaurant guests and night time travelers. The inn’s interior is made up of rural materials – from Ercol chairs made in High Wycombe to traditional plaster made from lime and horsehair. The ‘back room’ with its inglenook fire and view of the cobbled courtyard is perfect for private gatherings and feasting of up to 40, while the bar and restaurant area is the communal heartbeat of the inn. The kitchen serves seasonally inspired, locally sourced food with in-between times satisfied with home baked cheese scones and fruit cake with Cashel Blue while the main menus changes daily.

Stayed for a night in crown inn before going into London for a few days. Staff really helpful and friendly, sorted parking out for us so that we could leave our car. Breakfast has great brilliant choice, location was lovely and plenty of lovely places to eat, would defo stay again.

Amersham old town is a very convenient base pre departure from London Heathrow. Everything you need or want for a short stay is within walking distance of the Crown Inn. We stayed in the main inn as we wanted the old feel. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a room with a roll top bath, so worth it! The room was spacious and super comfortable. Included in the room rate was a wonderful breakfast, kettle (teas and hot chocolate), Nespresso machine, cookies and even a half bottle of red wine. Our pre departure stay at the Crown Inn was the perfect way to end to a trip home to see family.

We stayed for 3 nights over the New Years weekend. It was a fantastic break - a short drive from our home in Łondon, but far enough that we felt properly ‘away’. Old Amersham is a lovely village, we adored the peace and quiet from our courtyard bedroom and mooching around the local area. Every staff member we interacted with was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our NYE dinner at Hawkyns was wonderful with an overall convivial atmosphere and delicious food. We would happily return.

My wife and I visited for 3 nights over the New Year's holiday and absolutely loved the Inn and the area. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and the included breakfast every morning was delicious. It was wonderful to be able to walk down one flight of stairs for the fantastic food at Hawkyns - don't pass up having dinner at Hawkyns!

We stayed here over new year - our 4th time staying at the Crown. We were a little disappointed by the room this time - it seemed tired. The TV is from the dark ages and the bathroom was showing real wear including very discoloured grouting in the shower. The blinds on the windows are really dirty too - but understand the room was overlooking the high street. We’ve always enjoyed our stays here bug it seems to have lots some of the magic. Food in the restaurant was however super tasty.
