Tropical, jungle-like setting with approximately 200 rooms. We liked that it wasn’t crowded like the big resorts. Felt very secluded. Lots of birds and animals, including coatis that you can feed by hand (bananas and grapes were popular treats), along the walkway from the rooms

Beautiful resort, directly in the jungle. Beautiful beach, comfortable chairs, especially in the privileged area. B'loved restaurant is excellent, but you need to like fish. Steakhouse is super nice, especially at nice, warm nights. Gabriel at the tequila bar, Dalibeth and Luis

My husband & I visited this resort in November 10-17, 2018 fir a well deserved relaxation, fun in the sun time! This hotel/resort is really nice & large. I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy not having an ocean view room, but didn’t end up bothering me as I was at the pool or beach anyways.

Does the hotel have bug spray on site?
Hi there, no bug spray we took our own however since it was windy and it isn't so much season for mosquitos we were fine. If you go to more wooded areas the case might be different. They would like to you use natural products. Understandably.

Are the mosquitos bad in January/early Feb?
the mosquitos were not much of a problem. The sand flies were a problem in the evening down near the beach, or the outside restaurants. So please put on insect repellant . I got bit about ten times down near the steak restaurant on my legs around my ankles.

I suggest to book at the hotel. We booked one on the plane but changed it for something different at the hotel. It's good to get the right information and the representative can provide you with that. We did ek balam that included swim in a big cenote- underground cave water- the other was a snorkel and again cave adventure. There are so much to do there.

I would have to echo the answer by Eric E. above. If you tell them you are there for your birthday, they most likley will put a nice banner across your room door. You may also receive some special fruit or dessert for your room. Also as he has already said, there are numerous palm trees on the beach and most people find ample shade under them. The Catalonias do have an on-site sales staff that may try to sell you a membership in their Exclusive Traveller's Club. A buy-in to this "club" gets you a special bracelet, access to a special restaurant, go-to-the-front-of-the-line privileges for breakfast, etc and a special "section" on the beach. Membership to this may give you access to some sunbeds as well. We have always opted out of the sales pitch. We don't vacation to the beach to sit through sales presentations and we would NEVER cut in front of a line just because we were wearing a "special bracelet". We've been super content with what we receive under normal conditions and without the burden of a monthly payment and contract. By the way, we are planning to return to this wonderful resort for the 6TH time!! We hope you have a wonderul trip and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
