Detailed Reviews
We had an excellent experience at Oceanview cabins. We stayed in a two bedroom unit, easy checkin with keyless entry code provided. The cabin was very nice and very spacious, with a kitchenette having a full sized fridge, stove, microwave and a good supply of utensils and kitchen tools. The bathroom was modernized, towels weren’t very fluffy, but there were lots provided and everywhere was clean and well maintained.
The view was to die for, too bad that winter meant we couldn’t use the attached deck or provided picnic table!
We will recommend the cabins to others. It’s a good choice for a winter visit, esp when there’s so little open in Bonavista in the off season.

Real home-style Newfoundland cuisine made from scratch. Received a recommendation from a local to come here and all the items we had were good and clearly made from scratch. In a world where most restaurants make things like pies and mashed potatoes from mixes, the ones here were clearly made from scratch.

Cabin was clean and the sunset was spectacular. However the bbq had not been cleaned for what looked like years. The dirt was corroded in the racks. I certainly would not cook anything on it. Food in Bovavista was terrible.

The view of the ocean here is beautiful and the rooms are clean but beware if you have noisy neighbours! The first time we stayed here it was peaceful and relaxing, but we had no-one next to us. This time, we had a couple next door with 2 very young children. The children would start running and crashing around at about 5:30 in the morning and it would continue until we (or they) went out. It was very loud and I doubt that there is any sound insulation between the shared walls. I was exhausted when we left and looked forward to getting home so I could get some peace and sleep! When I complained to the owner, she didn't even acknowledge my complaint and so my concerns certainly weren't addressed. I will never stay at this property again.

I normally don’t write bad reviews but this experience had my seething. We were seated promptly and the server took our food order. We ordered off their ‘today’s specials board’. After a hour and 10 mins with no server even checking in with us to see if we needed anything or to assure us our meal was on the way, we were ready to leave. Our server brought out what was supposed to be a sloppy joe and under cooked fries. My taco casserole looked terrible and after one bite we got up and left. Would not go back and would definitely not recommend.

The service was terrible. Grumpy server. The chicken on my Caesar Salad was not edible. The special for the ribs was the worst. They were more like honey garlic mush. The whole meal was terrible. The rice was more like mashed sticky rice. Yuck🤢

"Cabins" is a misnomer, because the units are connected like a motel. The view was wonderful but the cabin was rundown and unappealing. Check in is at the restaurant but we waited a long time at the desk, as there wasn't much staff there and they were busy with the restaurant customers. Things seemed disorganised.

I have been going to this place for many years, and bringing family and friends here, the cabins are great,I've never had an issue with them, actually I highly recommend these for places to stay in Bonavista! However I had a reservation I needed to cancel and rebook for a earlier date,I did this and it took me almost an hour on the phone, and I was disconnected twice, then when I came Tom heck in there was no reservation, I showed her my cell phone to prove I was talking to her, and she said I wasn't,I couldn't argue with her, she had a cabin available so that was a good. When dealing with the public she needs to be sober, even when I was in the phone with her, she was drunk, slurring her words, I even told the people I was with, that this lady was drunk, when I showed up same thing and we could smell the booze off her, and the people in e next cabin said the same. If she continues to be in this state while operating her business, it's not going to last very long,so I suggest she be sober while at work. The staff said this happens a lot and she makes a lot of mistakes, but blames her staff for her errors. I'm thinking if it wasn't for her staff, she wouldn't have a business!! It would be a shame because like I said I've been coming here for years, and next time I book and if I know she's drunk,I will find a new place to go to while in Bonavista, and I go there every year!!

The cabin itself is fine look wise. although it is nothing fancy by any means. However, it was very poorly cleaned- if cleaned at all. The floors had visible dirt on them , the microwave was dirty, everything was covered in dust. The dishes were dirty - I understand the renters clean them but I feel as though they should be checked and properly put away. The bathtub had hairs in it as did the toilet and an old soap was left out on the sink. There is also a mat in the tub ( to cover the rusty tub) and it had mold under it. I was rather uncomfortable about sleeping there. The bbq was not cleaned and there was nothing to clean it with. I was also surprized that there was no bbq lighter or a hair dryer. It is worth about $80 a night and they are charging $140. That being said, the log book had many compliments about the cleanliness so I'm wondering if they accidently forgot to clean the cabin I stayed in that day as it was the only one without reservation. Even so, that is a scary thought. The view is absolutely amazing and I liked that there were fire pits. Would really like them to get the place cleaned up as it could be awesome!

We only visited the restaurant s)o I can't speak to the accommodation. But the restaurant was disappointing. Service was very slow and the menu was very standard, heavy on fish and starch, and lacking in variety, especially veggies. They were out of salmon so I ordered the fish cakes, which were one of the worst things I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Badly over-fried (almost burnt) and completely lacking in flavour. My dining companions ordered cod and seafood platters which looked extremely unappetizing and which they reported very poorly cooked. The accompanying cole slaw was almost liquid. The server was very pleasant, clearly run off her feet (trying to stick-handle calls related to the cabin while taking orders, serving and settling bills) . . . but it's hard to find anything good to say otherwise.
