We stayed at the new Samphire Resort on Rottnest for a night last week.
We had an excellent stay and were very happy with the excellent staff service.
Arriving on the 1030am boat the reception desk held our luggage until we returned at 3pm for checkin.
Checkin was fast and streamlined, and our bags were waiting for us in our upstairs King Pool view room.
The decor of the room is muted coastal colours with good quality linen curtains and cushions. Maybe a splash of turquoise/aqua could life the decor.
The Kingsized bed was very comfortable and there was a pillow menu.
The bathroom has a large rainfall shower-head and beautiful botanical toiletries by Hunter.
The mini bar had a good choice of snacks, but no price list. Too scared to try anything without knowing the price.
The complimentary Nespresso Coffee machine +pods and T2 teabags were most appreciated. A beautiful milk glazed teapot and teacups were provided.
The view across the pool from our upstairs balcony was most relaxing.
The pool area is well set out, but might be very hot and a bit stark in summer. The plants in the gardens are new and with time might add some much needed shade and greenery.
Breakfast at the resort restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced ( same as Perth prices)
My Bircher Muesli was almost too pretty to eat.
Overall we were very happy with the quality of our stay.
Not sure if the price of the rooms can be fully justified. $395 for the Pool view King was fine, but $600 for the Ocean View King Suite seems a bit expensive.
One could stay at the Crown Towers Perth for a similar nightly rate.
Only time will tell if people are happy with the prices.

We stayed at the Samphire for 1 night to celebrate a birthday. The building is of a very high standard, the rooms were excellent and the staff were all friendly professional and helpful. The pool area was a high standard and the seating area outside in the sand well laid out. So far so good.... however. The restaurant next door was closed as it’s not open everyday, the bistro next door to that was very crowded and noisy so you had to go further afield to find a place for a quiet drink or food.
I don’t think this would normally matter but when a 1 night stay, without breakfast, is so high in price, for me it looses a higher rating. It just doesn’t represent value for the money you pay. You expect more facilities to be available.

We were exited about a quite break on Rottnest in what looked like a nice Hotel paying over $430.00 a night for 1280 three nights was not cheap. On the Wednesday we arrived the hotel seemed quite with not many people there, however after paying for a pool facing room at over $400. We were given a room facing a building site packed with tradesmen sawing, grinding dust and making noise all 3 days . We could not understand why we could not be given a room away from the constrpuction site. The rooms are fine and not value fir the money you pay in this price bracket with no breakfast.
There are no night lights so if needing to go to the bath the room becomes fairly all lit up .
On the Thursday morning we tried to use our kettle and tripped the power when turned on . I waited and called the reception at 6.30 and a message said To press the emergency button to call the night clerk and no one answered. Lucky it wasn’t a life threatening emergency as no one answered dialling all the buttons. They all just reverted to Press the Emergency button. Go figure . Overall very disappointed with the accomodation and the restaurant facility for such a perfect location the management need to improve if competition ever arrived. It doesn’t seem like there will so unless they improve you will just have to accept the price and what you are given.

Response from Helen Regan, General Manager at Samphire Rottnest
Responded Oct 2, 2021
Thank you for your recent review and for choosing to stay with us at Samphire Rottnest. We apologise that your recent stay was not what you anticipated. For those who maybe reading this and for further clarification we currently had some facility improvements currently being undertaken. In order to retain the Hotel’s facilities in a maintainable condition, there are at times like any hotels we wish to make necessary upgrades in preparation for our peak season. Unfortunately, there has been unforeseen delays beyond our control due to the adverse Winter weather. In hindsight, all facilities were available to continue provide a high level of service and offering to our in house guests. Unfortunately, there were times during the day that it may of encroached on your stay with minimal disruptions. The team at Samphire Rottnest are dedicated and committed to ensure that all our guests services and facilities were available for the duration of your stay. We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. We look forward to welcoming to our friendly shores and for the Samphire experience soon. Helen & Team

We stayed there for 2 nights, after spending 2 nights clamping at Discovery Rottnest.
The Samphire is a great addition to Rottnest, and is true resort style accomodation, We stayed in a pool view room, which was very comfortable and a good size. We were able to keep our fold up e-bikes in the room, which was great. The restaurant (Lontara) was amazing - the best dinner we had on the island. Although whilst the staff serving in the restaurant were knowledgable and very friendly, the meals and drinks took a long time to be delivered. Also, as it is an open air restaurant under cover, the nights were cool, and their outdoor heaters and all run out of gas. Overall all the staff were exceptional, and made our stay really nice. There were a couple of instances where I would say they went out of there way to help - special mention to Wendy, Shashank, & Holly, and two others who I didn't get their names. I would say that as the resort had only been open for about 4 weeks, there are still some things that need to be sorted out, however overall we really enjoyed our stay. I consider that the resort is overpriced, however all accomodation on the island is expensive. So comparatively the resort is of value if you are looking for upmarket, well located accomodation.

We just had the best time at Samphire. Stayed 3 nights just prior to Easter, for my 60th birthday with my husband plus our daughter and her husband. We found the rooms to be super comfortable. We had ocean & pool view rooms on the second floor, with a balcony. Very comfortable beds, lovely linen, modern bathrooms with rain shower heads plus a Nespresso machine.
The pool staff were fabulous. Tatiana offered us chilled water and explained how to order f & b poolside with the scanner. She was so lovely and friendly and we were very pleased with our cocktails and calamari delivered poolside.
The breakfasts we had were up there with any upmarket resort. Fresh juices, great coffee and the whipped eggs, which were Gorgonzola scrambled eggs, so delicious. The macadamia granola with fresh raspberries, & lemon myrtle yogurt another favourite of our family.
Our dinner at their restaurant was absolutely one of the best meals we have ever had. We had a brand new waiter Marc, who was of Spanish origin, he was so sweet and so eager to make our night memorable.
The dessert mix plate for my 60th ‘cake’ was so absolutely delicious. Could not fault our experience at the restaurant.
Another big mention is the room service/ towel person/young man, who heard us wondering where to dispose of our rubbish from our esky from our private boat trip . He kindly offered to take our esky away with our rubbish from our day trip on our own boat and returned the clean empty esky to our room. That is service !
We four all really enjoyed our 3 nights at Samphire.

This hotel is beautiful but at this moment in time it should offer reduced rates until it is finished as it does not represent value for money. Check in was uneventful and our room was ready earlier than expected, which is always a bonus! The rooms are nicely decorated but there were no teaspoons, complimentary water was not given daily, and the bathroom had nowhere to hang your towels, but the hairdryers are great!! The pool area has great day beds and is lovely but there are no toilets, no service for drinks or snacks, and if there is a private function the music can be a bit loud. My most disappointing aspect was Lontara restaurant; I had booked a table for 6 people on Saturday night but prior to that we had a very disappointing breakfast there, the menus were very difficult to read, again we had to ask for teaspoons for the coffees, the eggs were cold and we had to ask for butter to go with the toast. That night the restaurant was exactly the same as breakfast, no candles, no ambiance. The service was very hit and miss, and the food was very mediocre; extremely disappointing. Finally, we decided to leave on an earlier ferry as the weather had turned, so we contacted reception to ask if they could take our luggage earlier; this was at 09:05am for an 11:45am ferry, and I was told that they could not do this as the porters take luggage for that particular ferry at 08.00am, and the porters would also not take golf clubs, which is strange as we had to transport them to and from the ferry ourselves. I do not want to be negative about this hotel but there are areas where improvements are needed; my review is not intended to be negative, but service and other little things need improvement.

We left the mainland with certain expectations, based on the price we paid and the adds of "barefoot luxury", front upper room facing the water.
We got there to find a construction site tidying up the loose ends.
Part of expectations was to get there have a caffe with something sweet...they served caffe, however no thing to accompanied the hot brewery, when I expressed surprise of the negative response, they said; " our cuisine is Indonesian" ???
We had tried to book for dinner before we went, the response was; not necessary, we have everything you will need!. Not so, the Restaurante was fully booked, the manager got us a table, as a big deal ????
They open far too early, unprepared, untrained, items that comes with luxury accomodation were missing, cement stains on floors.
The staff were doing the best , under the lack of information in hand to share with guests.
I sincerely felt for the manager and staff, doing they very best without the necessary tools.
Has potential, good luck to all.
For us, was a big disappointing experience with a big price tag. We happily pay for the right product, this unfortunately was not.

Having spent so many holidays at Rottnest for the past 60 years, it was wonderful to have a different experience on the island that did not involve food preparation!!
From the minute that we arrived at Reception until we left 2 days later, everything was excellent. We were allowed access to our rooms immediately- even though it was 2 hours before check in time. For Rottnest regulars this is an exciting and rare concept!
Our upper pool side room was perfect - large in size, well decorated and quiet even though the hotel was full. The salt water pool is a delight as are the cabanas and couches around the pool area. Towels are frequently restocked, and there is a waiter on hand refilling water glasses and assisting with pool side drinks and food orders.
Our evening meal at Lontara was outstanding. Excellent food and service.
We ate at the adjacent hotel the following night and again the food was very good. We loved the different areas where you could have a cocktail or a drink during the day and into the evening which meant that we did not sit on our balcony to do this, but is was great to have it there anyway.
By the time we caught the ferry a couple of days later, we were refreshed and vowed to return. It is not a cheap experience but certainly one that befits a special occasion and I would recommend this hotel unreservedly.

My partner & I decided to do a last minute mid-week trip to Rottnest & saw these lovely rooms for a reasonable price (for Rottnest standards anyway).
The Samphire has a 'luxe' feel to it, from the well dressed staff, the big soft pillows, wonderful Hunter Lab toiletries, huge shower & a great balcony overlooking the pool area with some comfy chairs. It was too cold for us to swim but the pool area looked great, lots of massive cabanas to laze in. Outdoor showers were plentiful as were little amenities like drinking water, sunscreen etc. We were also able to park our hired bikes behind the hotel in a locked area right outside our door - very handy.
I have to say, the thing that struck me the most was just how friendly & engaging the staff were, asking what we were doing for the day, how we were, always saying hello - just really nice.
In the evening we sat at the bar for a few cocktails near the fire pit overlooking the ocean & it was bliss, drinks were delicious & atmosphere relaxing. The grounds Maintenance gentleman (with the tattooed arms) was awesome, always rearranging chairs, making sure firepits are well lit & everyone was comfortable, raking the sand & making sure everything was in order.
We also had breakfast at Lontara which was also nice, bit posh for us but we still enjoyed the food. I actually cant wait to stay again. If I can be picky it would be that I was calling Reception (I called 3 times) & no one picked up however it's only a short walk to the office & also staff forgot our coffee order at Lontara however these are tiny tiny issues & shouldn't detract from staying at this gorgeous place.

At last 5 Star accomodation at Rottnest, we could not wait to make the reservation and in anticipation thought it would be like the 5 Star Hotels in Asia, wrong..
It did get off to a bad start, tried to book an evening meal at their restaurant, three days prior to our arrival..sent emails no reply, tried phoning, no answer. Checked into the Hotel at the allotted time, great friendly staff, taken to the room, very minimal interior design and the centre carpet had been removed due to the previous guest vomiting the night before, so our bed was placed on carpet underlay, after two nights and a complaint from us, the carpet was reinstalled.
The are no extra ammenities on offer, that is no bath robes etc.
We had a room , top floor overlooking the beach, no problems there, outstanding, with a large balcony. This was not cleaned over the 3 days and covered in leaves.
First morning, tried the Hotels restaurant, the service from the kitchen was shocking to say the least, we had to wait thirty minutes for an orange juice and coffee...following morning we decided to try again, the service was worse. We placed our order and after thirty minutes nothing had arrived, we complained and walked out.
Strolled down to the village and had breakfast there, good service, food and a lot cheaper!
There is a large pool area, which is surrounded by a newly appointed garden area, by way off vegetation planted in about 100 small plastic things, these plants are about 100 mm in height, so would expect they won’t reach their potential for a few years yet.
There is no protection from the blazing sun if you want to use the pool area, other than flimsy bamboo type individual roof areas.
Adjacent to the restaurant, is a bar serving cocktails, allow a good thirty minutes for your cocktail. The bar overlooks a man made beach area covered with bean bags etc, but no shade whatsoever.
Thank goodness Hotel Rottnest is close by, where you can get good food and drinks in a timely manner.
Overall , Samphire was a big disappointment, very expensive, sure the accomodation is better than what’s on offer from The Rottnest Island Board, but it just does not offer what you would expect from a five star hotel.
Look the staff are great, but it lacks management.
