Detailed Reviews
I note that Doc and Betty sold The Professors Place to a couple from Virginia as of December 20. Don't know if the buyers will still operate a B&B.
Thanks for a comfortable room and wonderful breakfast last winter when we were passing through! Best wishes, Doc and Betty!

We stayed at the Professors Place for one night on our way back to Canada. It is situated outside of Ogdensberg. It was agreat place to stay. the proprietors are very hospitable, friendly and you actually feel like you have known them for years. Breakfast was very good and satisfying. Our room was spacious and clean.

Thank you, Betty and Doc, for your wonderful hospitality. The Professor's Place is convenient to Canton (St. Lawrence U.) and has a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended!

The Professor's Place is charming in every way, striking in its architecture, pleasantly eccentric in atmosphere, and warmly welcoming when I showed up at the door.
One example of its originality: in my comfortably furnished bedroom there were 11 mirrors (that's right — 11) arranged picturesquely on one wall, each of them a different design, some of them clearly antique. There were also attractive prints on other bedroom walls, including one of Canadian painter Tom Thomson's legendary The Jack Pine.
The house itself is dominated by warm wood hues, soaring ceilings, books galore (available for the perusal of guests) and hundreds of antiques. There are also fascinating nooks and crannies, perhaps the most attractive being a second-floor reading corner overlooking the living room below. And there is a dignified ginger cat on hand to greet new arrivals.
Breakfast was excellent — orange juice, succulent strawberries, scrambled eggs and ham, toasted home-made bread, coffee. And there was good conversation as well, thanks to Doc who sat down at the table for an enjoyable chat.
For B and B fans, the Professor's Place can't be recommended too highly. It's exceptional value.

Doc and Betty were very welcoming and hospitable; made you truly feel like a family friend not a paying guest. Good conversation; breakfast made to order; very accommodating to our schedule; and offered several rooms for relaxing. The house is full of books, which you are welcome to read, and antiques, with stories about most. The rooms are upstairs, and ours had a private bathroom next door. The location in the country makes it a relaxing retreat. Ask Betty about the AGA Stove!!!
