We planned a very last-minute trip to Nungubane with two friends of mine for one night in June 2019, and had no idea what to expect. Little did we know about the fantastic experience we were about to have... The lodge is fantastic value for money and very cosy. But its real asset is the staff. It is an all-women lodge, run by a fantastic team dedicated to making you feel at home. While the entire team deserves an award for their hospitality and service, the ranger Annouchka is the one who made our stay extra special. She pulled off two amazing game drives and did everything she could to give us the adventure we were looking for!

My husband and I stay at Nungubane for 4 nights to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. The team of ladies at the lodge were extremely welcoming and friendly and made us feel like part of the family straightaway. Our game drives with Annouchka were very informative and enjoyable. She takes great care for the environment and has a massive amount consideration for the animals, which we both felt was very positive. The team went to great lengths to make our anniversary rememberable with a private meal on our balcony on our first night. The food on that night and all other meals at the lodge were amazing. We can highly recommend this lodge and we will definitely be returning in the future.

I recently returned from a 4 day stay in Nungubane Lodge. WOW! What an authentic experience. This lodge is a must for the discerning safari goer. Where to start..? The food was delicious. I have stayed in the outback/wilderness/posh camping before on different safaris and never have I had food this good. The staff were friendly and accomodating, generally giving us options for each meal earlier in the day. I was bowled over by how tasty the food was. Delicious and finished to a very high standard. Generally I'm a food snob and I still remember each meal we ate there. The accomodation itself is located in the Welgevonden Game Reserve so you are living in an African paradise, its quite remote. If coming from Johannesburg you will be driving for 4 hours or there is an airstrip not

This was my second visit to Welgevonden, and first stay at Nungubane Lodge. We stayed 5 nights which is about right. Our guide was Annouchka, who recently joined as the lodge’s guide. Each of the two daily outings were informative, exciting and fun. Annouchka had great knowledge of the wildlife whilst engaging in conversation on the drives as well as back at the lodge. The food that Miriam and her team prepared was freshly made, and was outstanding. There are two choices for every meal, along with a selections of wines. My only criticism is that the cheaper wines weren’t great but the more expensive ones were good. The bar prices were reasonable by UK standards. The rooms were clean and well equipped with balcony and views. Air con is provided are mosquito nets around the

We really enjoyed our stay at Nungubane. The food and staff are fantastic and they made us feel very welcome. It was really exciting to go out and “meet” the animals together with FJ since his enthusiasm and knowledge are fantastic. Can definitely recommend this lodge to other.

From the moment we were picked up and taken to the Lodge, to the return to our vehicle at the end of our stay, we had an amazing experience! Lots of animal sightings including a lion kill and cheetahs within meters of the Lodge. A highveld storm experience! A very knowledgeable guide (Greg) who tracked down so many animals for us. Chey ensured our return to camp was completed with great attention to detail and Miriam and her helpers in the kitchen provided us with fantastic food. Would love to do this again.

The staff made this a wonderful experience, from the first arrival to the last breakfast. FJ was a great guide, Lizzie the food was fantastic and Anne you assist and made things run smoothly. We had amazing finds on the drive, lion and elephant only a few meters away. Advice bring something warm along, especially winter the game drives can get very cold.

A small lodge with only 5 thatched cottages so lots of attention for all 10 guests. Meriam the chef and Lizzie the co-chef were lovely and prepared 3 great meals daily. Their African harmonies on boma night still resonate in my mind. Highly recommended for lodge and game drives. Be aware: Not many exercise options as smallish pool, extra hour from the parks main gate incl a fairly rough 16km gravel road, drinks (even the game drive & meal drinks) are extra charges, park entrance fees are an extra R165 per person per day, Wi-fi was extra R200 per day.

Can honestly say this was the best holiday and experience we have ever had. From start to finish everything was amazing - the staff, the lodge, the drives! It is difficult to pick out one part that was the best as it was all brilliant. We actually got engaged at the lodge so special thanks to Jonathan and all the team for their help preparing for this. If we could go back to Nungubane every week, we would! All the best, Simon and Hannah!
