Nungubane is a small lodge that is professional, but friendly and relaxed at the same time. The rooms were lovely and cool with the fluffiest towels and the nougat with turn down service was a special touch. The meals were delicious and there was certainly no shortage of food, even with a hungry teenager. Our compliments to the chef Meriam and her team. The lodge has a hide, a sala for relaxing with a book and a very inviting swimming pool area. The host, Nicky, looked after us from the moment we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. Our game ranger Hein, was extremely knowledgable and an excellent driver and is a huge asset to the lodge. The whole team made our stay extremely enjoyable and relaxing and we would not hesitate to recommend this lodge to future travellers.
We were 3 couples and spent 3 spectacular nights at the lodge. From our arrival to our departure there was not a moment we didn't feel like the whole lodge revolved around us. The service was exceptional as was the food. Our taste buds were spoilt by Miriam and her very competent kitchen team including a starry "braai" in the Boma. We had Anuschka as our guide and she VERY knowledgeable and friendly with a decent dose of humor. The only sad part was our departure. To Chris and his team, we hope to see you again soon!!
We had an amazing experience at Nungubane Lodge. The lodge is small and intimate and at a great location in Welgevonden Reserve. Annouchka was our guide and it was one of the best guides we have experienced at any game reserve. Her knowledge is unparalleled and she went out of her way to take us on a different game drive route every day. We were spoilt with amazing game sightings, most of them close to our vehicle. The Welgevonden Reserve is also extremely beautiful with all the game in prime condition and not scared of game drive vehicles. The reserve takes the management of the game and environment very seriously. All the Nungubane staff were so friendly and no special request went unanswered. They went out of their way to make our stay special. The lodge experience is top…
We had an amazing experience - wish we could stay longer than the 4 days we were there. Annouchka, Chris & team were excellent hosts - knowledgeable & welcoming, and in the most picturesque setting. Would recommend Nungubane & the Waterberg mountains to anyone!
Awesome sightings....the BIG five, super friendly staff, delicious food. Excellent hosts. Very knowledgeable game ranger with a great sense of humor. Had lots of fun. Overall they get a gold star from us.
The trip to Nungubane was a birthday present from my husband, and I don't think I have ever had such a wonderful gift. The two nights and three days that we spent more than met expectations, which were high to begin with. The room, the service, the meals, and all amenities were, for me, perfect. But my best were the guided game drives. Our guide was exceptional, and on the last morning, with just 4 out of the full camp up for the experience, myself being one of them, we had a very close encounter with an elephant. It was terrifying and at the same time exhilarating, and is a memory which will remain vividly with me for the rest of my life. Thank you to all of the staff, who went out of their way to make it a very special experience for us.
Amazing guest centric staff! Relaxing chilled time. Malaria free close to Johannesburg. Perfect Bush experience. Everyone going out of their way to make your stay exceptional. Will be back! Thank you!
My girlfriend and I visited Nungubane Lodge in December 2019. While we live in London, I am South African and have spent most of my holidays in the bush while growing up (i.e. this was not my first time). Being Norwegian, its was my girlfriend's first time in the bush - however, we were both equally blown away by our experience with Annouchka, Chris and the team. From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by the full team, and made to feel immediately like old friends rather than new guests. The lodge is an intimate one, hidden away in the reserve and is bush luxury and hospitality at its finest. The rooms are large and private, secluded away from the main lodge with your own private terrace over looking the valley. I have also come across many rangers in my numerous…
My husband and I had a return visit to Nungubane lodge with my mom in December 2019. The lodge is only a 3 hour drive from Pretoria and a great weekend breakaway. I don't know how it is possible, but our second visit was even better than the first. The staff are incredibly friendly and professional. The food was absolutely amazing and the game drives (safaris) were everything we expected and more. It truly is a thrilling experience. Whether you are living in South Africa or visiting from abroad, this is a must visit spot!
We stayed for four days and it was amazing! When you arrive, the staff is introduced by name and each one of them is very interested and pleasant. The overall atmosphere is very pleasant and personal and you can even leave your doors unlocked at any time, without being scared, as nothing will happen. We felt extremely safe the whole time we were there. The drives were great, we’ve seen many of the animals we wanted to see and Annouchka knows every animal and has interesting stories and facts. After the afternoon drives Chris knows how to receive his guests and enjoy them with drinks and nice stories. Next to this, Chris arranged some extra activities and we even set an extremely rare python free. Really cool! The meals are really good with choices for each meal and the Boma…
