My husband and I had a return visit to Nungubane lodge with my mom in December 2019. The lodge is only a 3 hour drive from Pretoria and a great weekend breakaway. I don't know how it is possible, but our second visit was even better than the first. The staff are incredibly friendly and professional. The food was absolutely amazing and the game drives (safaris) were everything we expected and more. It truly is a thrilling experience. Whether you are living in South Africa or visiting from abroad, this is a must visit spot!

We stayed for four days and it was amazing! When you arrive, the staff is introduced by name and each one of them is very interested and pleasant. The overall atmosphere is very pleasant and personal and you can even leave your doors unlocked at any time, without being scared, as nothing will happen. We felt extremely safe the whole time we were there. The drives were great, we’ve seen many of the animals we wanted to see and Annouchka knows every animal and has interesting stories and facts. After the afternoon drives Chris knows how to receive his guests and enjoy them with drinks and nice stories. Next to this, Chris arranged some extra activities and we even set an extremely rare python free. Really cool! The meals are really good with choices for each meal and the Boma

The stay at Nungubane was great. Accomodation : The Room #1 was great. The room is very spatious. A very big bed, a nice bathroom and Airco in the room. Food : The food was good. The seating is special, since you sit at one table with all the other guests. (This was new for us and a bit awkward in the beginning) We are not the fan of barbecue (or braai), so the first dinner was a bit of a down for us. The other dinner compensated greatly for that and we were fulfilled with what they had to offer.. The breakfast and lunch were abundant and very tasty. Game Drive : The guides are THE BEST !!!! Bertus has a wealth of knowledge. In all our game drives over the years, he was the one that still taught me some new things. Anouchka is (for her newbie position ;) ) also very dedicated

We traveled from Brazil to this place on the recommendation of a couple of friends living in South Africa. The experience was wonderful. We were very well attended and received. The staff are always very helpful and attentive. Unfortunately, however, we were robbed. We left passport and money in the safe box. Someone stole 1000 dollars and 400 euros. The safe box has a key and does not show much security. It looks like any key can open the vault. In addition, all rooms are keyless and open all day with access for anyone. Perhaps this policy should be revised to provide more security for guests. We communicated to the manager, but had no feedback on the incident. If you want a great experience, I recommend the place. If you want safe accommodation, unfortunately it is not

Response from NungubaneGameLodge, Manager at Nungubane Game Lodge
Responded 8 Nov 2019
We are glad to know from Mr Cecarelli's review that our Brazilian Guests had a wonderful experience at Nungubane and that they were very well attended and received. The suggestion that that they had money stolen while they were at the lodge is without any foundation. Our Brazilian Guests spent three nights at the lodge - 26th, 27th & 28th October 2019. They came with a South African couple who were friends of theirs. They all left on the morning of the 29th October 2019. At no stage during their stay or before they left the lodge, did any of the party make any mention of any alleged loss of money. The first time that a suggestion was made was in a phone call to the Lodge at lunchtime on the following day, 30th October 2019, after they had traveled and overnighted in Johannesburg. And that phone call was not made by Mr Cecarelli or his wife but by the wife from the South African couple who were their friends. When I received the message, I immediately phone the South African lady guest. I also conducted an immediate and thorough investigation. No evidence emerged to support the allegation. Mr Cecarelli states that he left money in the safe box. He suggests that any key can open the safe. This is completely untrue. There is only one key to the safe box and Mr Cecarelli had the only key. If Mr Cecarelli was missing 1000 United States Dollars and 400 Euros when he removed his money from the safe box, it is strange that he did not notice it. Mr Cecarelli states that " we communicated to the Manager ". Neither Mr Cecarelli nor his wife have ever communicated with me or the Lodge since their departure. The only communication with the Lodge has been from the South African lady who traveled with them. If Mr Cecarelli lost money or had it stolen after he left Nungubane Lodge, that is a matter of regret to us. But whatever happened, it certainly did not happen while he was at Nungubane. It is regrettable that such a damaging allegation should should be made without evidence to support it.

We recently stayed at Nungubane for 4 nights and just loved our stay! Welgevonden is a beautiful park with great wildlife, and very easy to get to from Jo'burg - just about a 3,5 hrs drive. The food was really great, and we loved getting to know the other guests. We also really enjoyed our game drives - Bertus was an amazing guide with such great knowledge about everything in the park! The lodge itself is beautiful - very authentic and beautiful rooms. What really made the lodge special though for us was the staff - led by Chris. Chris was really, really great - so friendly, personal, and he just went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay - it honestly couldn't have been better. He also seemed to have created a great team because everyone at the lodge was just really
