My family and I were in dire need of a good holiday and we were looking for something outside Europe. We looked at reviews of Cape Verde and decided to book. We arrived on the 21st December 2019 and stayed for a week. The welcome at reception was excellent and the staff were very attentive. The pools were excellent and well maintained. The alternative was a 15 minute walk to the beach which was pure white sand and blue ocean. I have eaten in many good restaurants and buffets but the Riu Funana was the best. The Christmas buffet was exceptional and no words can describe how good it was! The only negative was the choice of alcohol and no Bailey's... The rooms also were a little tired and needed some updating. I am looking forward to my next trip to Sal!
good points very nice hotel food was lovely although a bit repetitive we were there 2 weeks , place was very clean and the staff could not do enough for u and were friendly , island loved it very unspoilt which we loved tui were fantastic couldn't fault them bad things entertainment what can i say ive seen alot better we only watched the half of the first 3 nights and we'd had enough things that would of made this hotel the 5 * that its advertised as by tui the lighting on the signs for bedrooms could do with being better there should b lights on the balconies some people like to sit on balconies of an evening tables by the pool so u can have somewhere to put drinks and waitress service round the pool but the hotel was nice just a few things that would make it better…
Restaurangs great, perfect service. Book on first day!! The thai restaurang had no A_C so it was very warm. But great food. We had lunch close to pool every day, cold beers and different food every day. Wifi all over the hotel except at pool with no heating. It was great to have a heated pool to swim up to bar with sweet drinks. Loved it. Go to the beach, you will love it!!!
I must admit I came to Cape Verde wondering if it was as good as the reviews said it was, well I was not disappointed, on the transfers I was thinking it looked a bit rough, however once in hotel I soon changed my mind everything was done with efficiency checking in very quickly the only thing was finding your room in the dark ,however we bumped into a nice French couple who showed us the best way, so quick shower and off to the restaurant, the food was excellent just a taste of things to come I have never eaten such a variety of fish all wonderfully cooked, there were plenty of other dishes that you could choose from also the bar selection was not great but for the price we paid was ok staff were great in every department from the beginning to the end I will definitely be back 100%…
If you are considering an easy going & relaxed holiday with lots of activities if required, this hotel is a good choice. We were initially disappointed about the layout of the accommodation blocks, plus the first impression of our room but once we looked beyond that, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The hotel grounds were extremely well maintained & quite substantial, providing enough options for a quiet or busy time. We were under the impression that we had access to the sister hotel, however that is no longer the case, which was a shame. Next door had access to the Funana, but not the other way round. We were extremely happy with the comfort of the beds, the bedding, pillows, the size of the bedrooms, regular provision of water, tea & coffee facilities, a fridge & a safe provided within the room. There were plenty of sun loungers around the pool, with lots of shaded areas, pool towels provided & regular activities throughout the day if desired. The restaurants allowed for a good choice of food, although it was necessary to book in advance for a couple of the more specialist ones. The main entertainment area was impressive, with some exceptional shows provided. We weren't too keen on the house band, but that's our personal opinion. What absolutely makes this hotel is the VIBE, created solely by the entertainment staff. They worked tirelessly to entertain, day & night. They were always extremely happy & full of energy. They clearly make the whole experience a memorable one. …
