Run as fast as you can if you are a Marriott Rewards member. I am currently staying at the Kingston, NY Residence Inn and I am very disappointed. It all started at the check in process. I used Marriott’s mobile app and indicated my arrival time as 3PM. Upon my arrival, the room assigned/blocked was unavailable. Their front desk ambassador asked me to check back within 45 minutes, to which I agreed. Forty-Five minutes later, I was told the room was available. Unfortunately, as the front desk ambassador realized the room indeed was not released by housekeeping. So, she asked me to wait another 30 minutes. Thirty minutes later, she informed me the room blocked was not going to be cleaned by housekeeping because they were leaving early due to weather. She thought she found another room but had difficulties assigning me the room because it was blocked for another guest later in the week. Actually, blocked four days past my arrival date. She informed me that she needed to call her manager, Mario, to determine next steps. Unfortunately, Mario was not answering his phone and now she had no idea how to proceed. After an additional 30-minute wait, she discovered an available room. I received a key and proceeded to go to the room. Departing an elevator and following signs, I scanned my room key and busted through the door only to be surprised by a couple on the couch in a very compromised situation. I can only image their horror to have a person bust through their door when they were heavily involved in extracurricular activities. I returned to the desk, and the front desk ambassador stated “A computer glitch” put me in a very embarrassing moment. Honestly, she thought it was a bit comical. Now we had to find another room. At that point, I did state my Marriott Reward Status as “Ambassador” trying to expedite an already long process. However, she did seem to understand what it takes to become a Marriott Ambassador rewards member. Thirty minutes later, she discovered another vacant room. I was surprised to find ripped carpet covered by an attempted glued/taped-on patch. I tripped over the patch when my suitcase rolled over and dislodged their makeshift attempt to hide ripped carpet. Kitchen dishes are dirty, and the cooktop needs a thorough cleaning to remove burnt crust. Obviously, the property owners do not reinvest their monies in maintenance and property upkeep. Ask yourself, is this the property that you want to spend your hard-earned income. If you are a Marriott Rewards member and you want to discover a sub-par property, then this is your chance to experience a “Best Western” visit.

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite for two nights. The hotel is clean and inviting. From the moment you walk in the door the front desk staff are friendly, polite, and efficient. The 2 bedroom has a great layout, the beds are comfortable, and the living area space was a generous size. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area.

It used to be really good. I used to come every few months and use it as a base to go hiking, and I hate that the other hotel nearby is so close to RR tracks that it's hard to sleep there at all. This hotel is quiet because you can close the bedroom door. My Nov 2020 stay was lovely. But IDK what happened between 2020 and 2021. Something. It just froze in time and nothing was repaired or cleaned and polite staff were fired? I came back to a place that was different than all the times in 2017/18/19/20. My room had hair and crap everywhere. Water leaking in wall. Staff that thought I was being uppity for complaining about it. Not paying 250 for a room midweek off season to be treated like a snotty jerk for not wanting to sleep near water dripping from inside the wall. And why is management responding to everything here? Writing "we appreciate your concern our hotel went downhill" just makes people madder. Say specifically what you are fixing if you want people to come back. The reluctance to move me when my room had plumbing issues was weird. Like, it was maybe mid-week November 10th or something. No one was there. Parking lot was almost empty. Why was it a huge imposition for me to get another room if this one had water leaking everywhere. Also, didn't they plan to fix it? Or were were going to ignore it for two more days and hoped it plugged itself up? At least breakfast was awesome 3 years ago. Sad to see reviews that that's gone downhill too. Why buy a hotel if you hate running hotels?

The hotel is clean and the staff is very nice. Those are the good points. This hotel needs some updating or some repairs in the rooms like to the wallpaper etc. The food is a joke. Very disappointed in the breakfast. Their idea of a hot breakfast is a Breakfast sandwich in a package put in the steamer. Yuck Last Friday morning there was a big bowl of cut up strawberries that look like they’ve been freezer burned and laid out. A big pile of mush. Disgusting!

Checkin was quick. Room was ok, recently refurbished bathroom with lots of counter space. Bed was too soft and sinking into the middle. Where tile floor meets carpet there was four feet of duct tape, perhaps the divider between floor/carpet was missing. Sofa cushions were sinking in the middle, rendering sitting on the sofa uncomfortable. The worst part was breakfast. Front desk and kitchen staff confirmed no deliveries made in last couple of weeks. So there was none of: juices, yogurts, cereals, whole fruit, sliced fruit, oatmeal or containers of milk. Basically eggs, potatoes and bread. Front desk said recent management changeover occurred and they have not arranged for new food service. Ugh, then tell me before I arrive so I can decide to stay elsewhere. This is another step down, among many, for the Marriott name. I stayed here five years ago and it was wonderful.

As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I suggest staying as far away from this Residence Inn as humanly possible. The management team at this property is an example of investing no more than what is required to keep the doors open. Walk in the door-every luggage cart is broken. Go to your room (RM 122) and the bathrooms are dirty. Go to the kitchen and the oven pan is full of grease. Kitchen utensils barely exist. Turn off the plug-in scent products and after a day the smell of urine is obvious. Go to the closets-no hangers or luggage racks. Light bulbs are burned out. You want maid service-after the 7th day. Go to the gym-treadmills barely work and the videos on the ellipticals were out. Go to breakfast-plenty of water but almost nothing else-no fruit, no healthy cereals-you can get plenty of the hot eggy things that look and taste like powdered milk.

The grounds are pretty outside and it is conveniently located, and nice to be dog friendly with nice grassy areas, the kitchenette is great, but the interior needs remodeling and upgrades. The breakfast is meager, the coffee station and hot water are not available 24/7 as most places are, the fitness room needs a front desk person to unlock the doors and they take reservations for hourly time slots for one room at a time! I know this is due to New York law or something, but in Westchester the fitness room in a higher end hotel does not have to do this with their pool and fitness rooms at all, so it is strange and inconvenient. The exercise cardio equipment are falling apart with buttons that don't work, and they were unplugged and I had to plug them in! Wheels don't work well, buttons don't operate. I have never seen a worse fitness room in my life! The staff are not super friendly. The rooms need new carpets and steam cleaning carpets. The amenities were lacking in bathrooms. They need to improve this place.

I recently checked into the Residence Inn Kingston, NY at 2:15 pm on a Saturday afternoon for a two night stay over Memorial Day, The grounds unkempt with dead bushes, weeds and uprooted edging. The attendant wore crumpled chino pants and a white undershirt with no shirt or name label. No welcoming smile, no hello, no greeting whatsoever. He said the room wasn’t ready yet and it’d be about 20 minutes and when it was clean, he’d let us know right away so we decided to just wait in the hotel lobby. Granted, I could have asked for an early check in beforehand but I am dubious if that even would have been honored. I explored the pool area, thinking it’d be nice to enjoy the hot tub but it was topped off and broken ( for how long, who knows)? After over an hour, I approached the front desk agent and asked about our wait. He mysteriously found a clean room pronto even though he told us he’d let us know as soon as one was available and asked if I’d like Marriott points OR an amenity. I said, after waiting for over an hours when he said it’d be 20 minutes, I would like both. He said he couldn’t do that, I asked for a manager, which he said there were none and he was here all alone. I then tried to express our inconvenience and explained that if we had known it would be over an hour to get the room clean, we could have gone elsewhere for lunch but instead he set the expectation of 20 minutes which was terribly inaccurate. I asked his name since again, had no name tag and Robert proceeds to have a mini emotional break down; saying he was left here all alone once again by management, he was doing the best he could, he has no real idea when rooms will be ready and in a huff walked away as I was speaking to him. When we got to the room, naturally the room Keyes did not work and had to go back down to the front desk to get them rekeyed. There at the front desk, was Robert on the phone venting to hotel management about how he was going to quit and was so tired he was being left alone again, etc. I told him that his behavior was really inexcusable, poor customer service and inhospitable. Twice more during our two night stay did our room Keys not work properly. The room was clean, quiet, a/c worked well although the mattress could have been improved. The breakfast was dismal. Prepackaged tasteless burritos and quiche, no fresh fruit, no orange juice and a pitiful selection of breads, white and wheat. The quests congregate in the breakfast area so there really is no COVID excuse for this woeful offering, especially since the virus is transmitted by aerosol, not by surface. I definitely get a sense that the abbreviated breakfast is done for the convenience of the hotel management instead of the desire of the quests. After being given the room key , I asked Robert for the manager to call me the next morning. I also mentioned this to another front desk person ( an African American woman ) to have the manager call me and never got a response. I even tried several times calling to speak to a manager in person and on the phone about this horrible check in experience and each time was told there was not one there or unavailable. The events above tell me that this Marriott is badly managed, has disgruntled and unhappy employees that evidently do not feel supported, valued or care about their quests. The job of a front desk agent is fairly straightforward; to greet quest nicely, make them feel welcome and accommodated, assign them a room promptly and handle any issues calmly and politely, all of which Robert and consequently the hotel management failed miserably in providing.

I don't like writing poor reviews because I know there are staff who are trying their best sometimes in less than ideal circumstances. We had a one-night stay planned for this hotel and chose it based on location along our route (road trip). I was disappointed to realize that many of the negative reviews previously posted were accurate in our case. We were upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite on arrival, which was a pleasant surprise. Destiny, who was working the front desk, was very pleasant. To our surprise, the pool was open (despite the website indicating it was closed, and prior reviews also stating it had been closed for a long time). However reservations are required and guest key card access did not work. The hot tub is still closed. For a relatively new property, the guest room was in poor shape. Housekeeping was not good, I will leave it at that. We ended up working it out with Destiny at the front desk. Additionally, the hotel seems to have had previous and ongoing plumbing issues which have caused damage to some rooms. Our room had clearly been repaired following plumbing issues but there were definite signs. A lot of things about the hotel just seemed off compared to a typical Residence Inn experience. Primary issue was the state of the room we were assigned (and credit to Destiny for helping to rectify). Morning staff interactions were not overly pleasant. The breakfast was definitely below average for Residence Inn. Would not return to this property when back in the area. It's located across from a Target and some other big box stores, and near many restaurants. It still looks new from the outside and I don't know what's gone wrong here... but we were disappointed. I'd give it less than 3 stars but I appreciate the help we did receive from Destiny at the front desk.

After a horrible start of the weekend at the best western plus in Kingston NY we left there after one night. We found Residence Inn in Kingston NY as we walked in we were greeted with a very professional staff, they had a smile on there faces the whole time and very helpful. The two staff members that waited on us were Robert and Tarik, they both were the best staff members I have ever felt with in all the hotels I have stayed at. I would recommend Residence Inn in Kingston NY for any of your stays. I will definitely return to this hotel even if I had to drive to my event for a little while it is worth the excellent service!!! This is the first time I have done a review before and this is worth my time. Thank you so much Robert and Tarik!!!!!!!!!
