Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This is my "home-away-from-home" when I'm in town dropping off or picking up my son from St. Lawrence University. Proprietor Margaret is a wonderful hostess - makes you feel welcome and at home! The rooms are comfortable with cozy beds. Breakfast was delicious with good coffee. I'm so glad to have found this gem! Will definitely return!

Beautiful place. Very accommodating hosts. (Hosts do not live on site.They live next door and are available if you need them). Rooms are lovely. The Chicken Coop was amazing! My family (Husband and Granddaughter) are/were not early risers but I am and was able to enjoy the "Breakfast" part of the Bed and Breakfast on several days. The homemade applesauce was delicious. + Room spacious and quiet. Well appointed and clean. Proximity to SLU was main consideration (zero options within 30 miles of Canton with late booking). Interesting, historic home.
- In hindsight, pricey, but a college town issue with too little supply at discreet times of the year. A business, not quaint sharing/interacting with owners. Staff arrived in morning and prepared a breakfast; tasty (B&B correct -- locally, sourced, organic, etc...) but limited choices. Poor water pressure. It took several minutes for hot water to arrive to shower-head!
Upshot - works fine if few options. I recommend booking early and exploring all choices in area.

Per the prior review, yes, the house was empty on arrival BUT it was open and with one phone call, the owner was there in 2 minutes! The rooms were large and beautifully appointed. Our hosts were very friendly and very laid back, pretty much help yourself to what you need! Breakfast was delicious and presented like a picture! We had one minor issue with a room which was attended to quickly. Go and enjoy this lovely place!

The house itself is lovely. The rooms are beautiful although the furnishings were not terribly comfortable. Breakfast was okay but not outstanding. There were no supplies in the bathroom other than one soap pump which we needed to transfer back and forth from the sink to the shower. One towel actually had a hole in it.
We arrived Saturday afternoon and had to find our room on our own. We did not see a staff person that night or the next morning. Breakfast was on the table at 8:00 and we had to make another pot of coffee and refill the cream because it ran out.
All in all, for the price, it would have been nice to have someone there to handle the details. I would expect soap, shampoo and shower gel for a $200 room in Canton New York.

Lovely, cozy, clean B&B located down the road from SLU. It was a hot summer day & after driving several hours, Litengard B&B was a perfect choice! Cool & comfortable along with a gracious welcome from the owner, Margaret. In the morning, we enjoyed a delicious home cooked breakfast as we dined with the other guests. We will be back!

we had not visited Canton before and were fortunate to find Litengard online. It has three gorgeous rooms all updated to 2014 standards The showers are huge, the beds as comfortable as possible, and it is simply decorated in modern Norwegian style. It has a beautiful sitting room and a light airy breakfast room Margaret and Bob saw to our every need. Breakfast was a delight with f lavorful coffee and fresh eggs from the chickens in the barn .If you are staying in the Canton-Potsdam area you could not find a finer place!!

Staying at Litengard was a great experience. The rooms were large and lovely. The Scandinavian decor was charming and tranquil. Our host, Margaret, was lovely; and her breakfasts were perfect. We had scrambled eggs from the chickens in the back yard! We loved the huge bathroom with it's giant shower and soaking tub. We will definitely stay there again when we visit the area. One of the most pleasant B&B's we have stayed in.
