I enjoyed my stay here and had the place to myself for three nights as the only guest.
The Rouse Room was comfortable and roomy. The bath towels were thick and awesome. Tasty breakfasts were made to order and I enjoyed the conversation with Julia and Kate, who prepared my breakfast each day. I also had a nice chat upon arrival with Charles; he was engaging and a nice guy though I never saw him again after that. I also met his two adorable kids a couple mornings during breakfast. The was delicious coffee cake and cookies on offer at any time.
There weren't any specific beverages available that I was aware of outside of breakfast and I didn't want to raid the fridge so I helped myself to water from the faucet. There was no cup or glass in the bathroom which I thought was odd. Also, my room had a balcony but no chair to sit on. No one asked if i wanted the room refreshed each day and it was not. I did not have a problem with this but it would have been good to have been asked. These are all minor quibbles from a great stay and I recommend 24 East Main when staying in Canton.

We stayed at Charles’ B&B for two days in August 2021 while dropping off my daughter to college. We really liked this charming place. Our master suite, with access to the terrace was spacious and very clean( spotless!).The breakfast was delicious and made very quickly!, coffee was excellent! The hotel has a convenient location that is walking distance to good restaurants ( Indian ! and Italian cuisine)in downtown Canton. The trains passing by late at night definitely surprised us, but the second night, it wasn’t even noticeable. Great place, highly recommend stopping by here! Five stars

24 East Main Street was a charming, comfortable overnight stay in Canton while we attended area college lacrosse games. The owner, Charles, is so creative and quite the woodworker. Everyone was so welcoming! Breakfast was relaxing and delightful. We enjoyed the sounds of a bustling village! Delightful stay!!

We got a cozy large room on the top floor, with a large bathroom. The beds were good. The shower was a bit clumsily placed inside what felt like a cone, but it was a small sauna. Very good breakfast, which you could decide for yourself, and the host was very friendly. But ... we saw a lot of Harlequin ladybugs, and it was a bit unpleasant and is something the host should get rid of.

I could not believe how beautiful this house was. Charlie, the 26 year old proprietor restored this old house on main street by hand. It is quality from the ground up, and so comfortable and clean! I wish I had taken pictures. He is an incredibly friendly and laid-back young man.

Breakfast is hearty, plentiful and delicious. Basically, if you want it they make it. One couple was visiting their adult daughter who lives in town, and Charlie invited the daughter to join us for breakfast.

Free wireless internet throughout. We had a laptop with us, but Charlie let us use his computer also.

Some of the guests mentioned that the rooms in the front have street noise, and occasionally a train going by.

Our daughter plays for a college basketball team and one of their league opponents is St. Lawrence University. When she was in her freshman season, we knew nothing about accommodations in the area, but what I did find was pretty pricey for what we would be getting. Then I stumbled on to this amazing B&B. You can't find a better place for the $, but honestly, it's not about the money. The Innkeeper and his wife have created a wonderful community there and once you stay, even for a night, you are automatically a part of it. We have met some very friendly, interesting people, the Inn is right at the foot of the University, and Charles and Brooke really know the area, so no matter when you go, you will always have a great experience. Highly recommend them to anyone traveling in the North Country.

This is our second stay at 24 E. Main. First trip was in the winter of 2009 and summer 2015 our second. The beautifully renovated older home has high end amenities that are still fresh and new; food well prepared by the same talented and gracious owner.

This property is rooted in eat fresh, eat local business partnerships advancing a community supported agriculture style. Breakfast is served daily and within the guests time and food choices. During our stay they prepared eggs, toast with homemade jams/jellies, muffins, French toast, pancakes with pure maple syrup, sausage, bacon, and fruit all from the local area of the north country. Ooh lest I forget the bottomless pots of custom blended coffee! I rant about the food and service because they can't be described well by photos.

The photographs are of our most recent trip where we reunited with our daughter, son-law and his family. Seven in all. While our trip was a social family gathering I must say the BB would be conducive to corporate travelers wishing to combine a little pleasure while also conferencing with colleagues at the large dining table.

Definitely our go to place for our trips to Canton.

We loved every single detail about our stay at the 24 East Main Street Bed and Breakfast. Charles, the owner is adorable and personable and made us feel right at home. Brooke is lovely as well. the house is gorgeous with every detail beautifully done. the room was huge, with gorgeous huge windows letting the sun in. a very comfy 4 poster bed, beautiful thick turkish cotton towels, an enormous jacuzzi bath, thick plush terry cloth robes for your use. charles asked us what we wanted for breakfast and prepared a delicious feast for us right on time the following morning. i am keeping my fingers crossed that my daughter chooses to attend st. lawrence university so we can stay with charles again many more times!

This was my first time staying at 24 East Main although I know the area well as a SLU alum. I plan to be back EVERY time I'm in the North Country! I stayed in the "Studio Suite," which is actually on the other side of the driveway in a different building. It was fantastic...super clean, comfortable bedding (hadn't slept that well in weeks), and a super-quiet room. There are train tracks nearby and I didn't hear them once I was inside the room. Brooke, Charles, their young kids (and dog) make for a tremendous visit experience! Their staff also cooked a delicious breakfast! If it's available, I highly recommend staying here over any of the hotels in the area. I can't recommend 24 East Main Street enough!

If you are heading to Canton area for any reason, this is one of the best properties in the area. They only have 4 rooms so book early. I will say the train does come by several times and even at 4:30 a.m. but eventually you do not even notice it. It was quite a surprise the first time! Breakfast was great and Charles & Brooke are very hospitable. I would definitely stay there again , train and all.

How often does the train go by, particularly at night?
Answer from CantonNY
Canton, NY
The train typically comes through around 10pm, 2am and 6am. The Tower Suite and Rouse Room are the two best options for rooms if you are very sensitive to noise. We are right in the center of the village, and with that get numerous sounds; plows in the winter, people walking by in the summer, or the train all year round.
