Subic Bay's best kept secret, the Playa Papagayo Beach Inn is a cozy bed and breakfast hideaway amidst a tropical garden with a clean private beach. There are only nineteen rooms sprawled in a 3000sqm beachfront property to assure you of a comfortable and relaxing stay. The Inn is more famous for its Tex-mex and its Thai culinary delights. It has a bar lounge to enjoy hearty margaritas while viewing a spectacular sunset bayview.

I did not expect much when I booked thinking the photos just showed the good side of this resort. But I was surprised with this resort. Coming from the highway, I felt that I entered a different dimension when I came in as I saw the really nice view of the beach. When my family went to the beach, I was amazed with the fine sand. It was such a relaxing stay. Visitors have the option to eat out or dine in the resort. Food price is not that expensive. The room was comfortable, aircon is cold. Water pressure in the shower is not that strong. Their water pump had problem during our stay.

I visited the place with my family last year on December 2022.
Place was clean but was a little outdated.
Food was pricey so my family decided to eat in town (more options and lively area, try it out).
The beach was clean (the sand opposite the place is neat with no trash unlike the nearby areas).
No lifeguard, we were told people can only be out in the beach by 6:00 pm.
They have enough parking inside the area.

Very basic accommodation, outdated rooms and facilities. Front desk clerks are helpful but no warmth on the service they provide. Provided 2 pillows only, I requested for 2 more, they charge P100 per pillow. At first the lady brought 2 foam pillows, I asked if they have the better kind, she frowned as she left to get us better pillows which we paid for.
Advertised that they have Laundry Services but this is not true. We have to look for a Laundry Shop ourselves outside the resort.
Restaurant is average. No item that stood out. Pricey for what you get even for drinks. For example: P90 for a bottle of beer. Corkage is unreal 😉 P35 for 1 can of beer.
I would like to commend the Restaurant servers: Alvin - he initiated conversations, provided helpful information and very engaged whenever we are there. Ferdie and Erwin are also attentive and helpful.
Sad to see the beach with lots of garbage. Few meters away from the resort, there is a sewer system from the busy community and business establishments going to the sea, smelly, so we decided not to swim on the beach at the front of the property and waited for the island tour to enjoy Zambales salt water.

My favorite resort in Barretto has a lucious garden setting.
The beachside dining feels very romantic and the food is good.
Every staff member made a sincere effort to make our stay special.
Family owned and operated..... You can feel the difference!
AAA satisfied guest. We will return soon.

I must say we didn't stay over in the rooms. But we visited the place and eat at the restaurant. The place is very nice with lots of shadow and romantic lighting at night. The style is Spanish style. Surely on our next trip we gonna stay over at this hotel. The restaurant is great. With many dishes also accomodating foreigner tastes. I enjoyed a nice steak which was 2 years ago since I live in the province. The hotel is right at the beautiful beach of Subic Bay. During our visit it was not busy. So highly recommended. We didn't see a pool.

The Playa Papagayo is a wonderful family run resort right on the beach in Barrio Barretto. The resort is beautifully landscaped and kept clean including the beach front. The rooms are spacious and kept spotlessly clean. We were treated like family. The staff was always friendly and helpful in all aspects. Looking forward to our return visit next year. Thanks to Frank and Mom for an excellent experience !!!

My wife stayed here before, and this time we both stayed here for more than two weeks, neither time did we have complaints. We took advantage of the low season rates (August 2014) and paid 1000 pesos per day for our room. My comment to others who did not like their experience, don't go to another country expecting to have everything in your room perfect, or compare to some hotel in your home country. If that is what you expect, you probably should be booking the Manila Hotel. The customer service in this resort was beyond reproach in our view. It was the most comfortable and inviting place we have stayed, anywhere. Resort staff, restaurant staff, service staff, security staff, were all very respectful and helpful. Respect goes a long way anywhere in the Philippines, even if you are paying. Give a little respect to get a little respect. The staff was always on point and ready to serve. I couldn't say enough about the staff. The room was sufficient and very comfortable, excellent A/C. Was the paint perfect and tile grout perfect? Not exactly, but I was paying 1000 pesos a day! Was it nasty? Not by any stretch of the imagination. The linen was fresh and the staff always made more available. I've stayed at worse hotels in the US many times, and paid way more. The menu at the restaurant was full of awesome delicious items, as we ate there at least once per day during our stay, many times more than once. I loved this place and all the staff. I didn't want to leave. The beach cleanliness is a challenge for them, as the bay likes to drop all sorts of stuff on the entire Barretto beach. I have no affiliation with this resort, other than many fond memories of our stay and a yearning to return. I don't get the negative reviews at all.

The moment we got to the Playa Papagayo resort, I immediately had a sinking feeling which turned into utter disappointment when I went near the shoreline..It was filthy and the sand was really coarse. I remember thinking if I would let my daughter take a swim in this beach. I tried to remedy the situation by trying to rent a boat to take us to an island where we could go for a swim and found out that they charged Php700/hour to take you on a short boat ride, robbery. Needless to say, I decided against it. We then proceeded to our room. We got the small beach front room for Php2610. It was considerably clean except for the few empty beer cans we found inside the closet and also the small pieces of walis tingting in the shower. After taking a nap, I let my daughter swim in the afternoon when I saw that the water cleared up a bit. I led her to the beach front beside Playa papagayo because it was cleaner there. While we were at the shore, I saw a lady throwing her corn cob in the water. These are the type of people you would encounter here. At dinner time, we found the prices in their restaurant excessively high for a resort that was filthy, good for 2-3 dishes range from Php250-350. I wouldn't have minded paying for an expensive dinner if thought it would be worth it. We went out for dinner and found a place that I would recommend if you find yourself in this God forsaken place . "The Coffee Shop" in Barrio Barreto served great food. Most notable were the Taco and Baby back Ribs. We went back to the Resort. At this point I was getting over my initial disappointment and wanted to have a few beers to unwind. A can of beer in this resort goes for Php55. In the morning, we had our "Continental Breakfast" which consisted of a tea cup sized glass of Orange Juice, 3 pieces of Pandesal, some butter and jelly and a cup of coffee which they served in coffee stained cups. We ended up ordering additional food (Omelet-165, Sunny side up egg-20, waffle-120, hashbrown-60) which they served 30 minutes after we ordered. After our breakfast we checked out to begin our vacation...Pwe
