This time, we came in SBMA in a small group of friends and so decided to try Buena Casa hotel. The first good part was that their promo rates are among the lowest in SBMA - we paid 1200 pesos per room per night. The rooms were comfortable, we had a balcony on the 3rd floor and good views of the SBMA area (former US navy base - and in many respects, still has the atmosphere of a navy base - in a good way).

The rooms are moderate sized - perfect for singles, manageable for a couple, but not recommended for large groups or families.

Service was excellent - cheerful and helpful. We liked the restaurant too - especially for breakfast. Teriyaki boy, Pancake house, and Yellow cab Pizza are just below the building. Walk a few steps more and there is Meat plus, next to the two Large Duty free supermarkets and a few small shops like "Payless".

Asian spicces (Segara villas) is 5 mintues walk away.

Places along the Boardwalk are about 15 minutes leisurely walk along the sea.

The good part about this hotel (as compared to other hotels near Boardwalk) is that this area is quiet - no loud bars (The loud noise from "Pier one" was the main reason we decided not to stay near the boardwalk), lots of greenery - but we could always walk down to Boardwalk for a drink if we wanted.

How to reach -
From Manila, drive along SCTEX upto Subic SBMA, thence pass Subic bay yacht club - take a left turn after it - drive upto the waterfront. Buena casa is easy to spot with it's pink - red colour.

If taking a bus, disembark at Olongapo Victory liner, and take a taxi from there to Buena casa (the driver will ask you if you have a booking, since he would wish to take you elsewhere where he gets a cut - tell him yes, you have a booking). Costs 250 pesos for the taxi.

From Victory liner, you can also (if you do not have luggage) take a blue jeepney to SM - SBMA main gate, and walk from there (15 minutes walk - Yellow cab pizza is a good landmark)

Booking -
We booked via telephone and paid an advance on arrival. Since it is a large hotel (4 floors), they often have rooms. Weekends as usual are more busy.

All in all, I definitely recommend this place.

It's a relatively new place to stay inside Subic Bay. Very quaint and rustic ambiance, just like home. We walked in to reserve a Superior room. Reservation was fast and was attended to by cheerful receptionists. The room was big with basic amenities less the ref. and free bottled water that other hotels & inn in the area would offer. The bathroom needs general cleaning as black molds are already present. Our room was located on the ground floor facing the back of Pancake House & Terriyaki Boy. Not only that, it was the establishment's garbage area. Housekeeping service was fast, they attended to our needs swiftly. WiFi signal was strong. The accommodation included breakfast, but not for those who are used to having it heavy in the morning. Ample parking is available and safe. Overall we would still comeback and stay at Buena Casa. It's affordable and has the basic amenities needed for a restful vacation,

We have been here a couple times. It's a nice go-to place when we suddenly spend an unplanned night at Subic. It's clean and cozy. The interior design is quite confusing because you don't even know what look it is trying to achieve. Staff are friendly and approachable. Pool is it's weakest point. I did not even dare get into the pool and that's saying a lot because I really love to swim.

Last Jan 30,2015 we had our organization workshop in subic and we were billeted in this Hotel by on the recommendation of a colleague, which I regretted. From Day 1 we check in to the time we check out which is sunday Feb 1 just two (2) nights, we transfer a total of 3 rooms. All that you can find to fault or broken I had all the luck to encounter, broken Air-con, faulty water Heater, no connection hotel phone, non-functioning remote control, broken door luck and other minor broken or non-functioning. if we had stayed longer i think broken toilet would be in our agenda. although the so-called "old world" charm was there but with all the broken facilities it got lost to old age. Iam not too keen of recommending this hotel, price wise it ain't as valued for money as it billed to be.

I stayed again at Buena casa hotel this month and I am happy to say, the hotel is as good as it was when I visited it earlier. The service was great, all smiling faces.

We got a room facing the back (I wanted a sea facing room, but unfortunately they were booked) - it has a small balcony which was nice to sit. However, the aircons below were noisy so we moved into our room. The pillows were soft, we had a dressing table, big bath room, good hot water and a large soft double bed.

This time, we explored the area locally, with an old SBMA veteran who showed us the Inang Laya monument, Hell ships monument, and told us stories about their WW2 history. He also showed us some interesting photos of the area when it was a US Naval base.

The streets still have signs of these - Betty lane, Dewey avenue, lots of greenery.

The location of this hotel is perfect - it is 10 minutes leisurely walk to the boardwalk, where there are lots of restaurants. 2 minutes walk on the other side is Meat plus and a few other restaurants. 5 minutes walk away is the Ayala mall with at least 20 restaurants including Mc Donalds KFC etc. 10 minutes walk away is Olongapo city with lots of restaurants and shops. and an SM.

The hotel tends to be busy at weekends, but you can walk in and book rooms on other days. On the whole,. an excellent palce to stay (The owners are Filipino and it shows in a good way)

As walk ins, we had a room available. Beds, pillows and blankets are neatly comfortable. Bathroom is big enough but needs more hooks or bars to hang some clothes. Some desk lamps arent working but its okay. Hotel personnel are helpful and courteous. Restaurant is nice and menu is affordable. A place that i can recommend but not with people who have high expectations. :)

We were a group of 12 and decided to stay overnight at Buena Casa because of the low prices. They were strict in letting us check-in at 2pm. Once checked in, all facilities looked excellent and was worth more than what we paid for: silent aircon, flat screen, nice bed, big bathroom, hot water, complimentary water, tea kettle, sofa bed.

We asked for extra beds. The sheets used were clean but it's not as impressive as what's in the room: random striped sheets with pillow cases of a super hero character. No blanket was provided. We were advised to use the bed sheet as a blanket. We opted to use the provided towels as blankets instead.

The tea kettle heater won't work. Cable tv is available but images are snowy. No toiletries were provided.

Breakfast was provided. We just needed to choose from a list of set meals. We stayed an extra hour and a half and were charged accordingly.

We stayed at this hotel during our management leadership seminar (which was being held at the Subic Yacht Club) last week. (We stayed from July 11-13, 2013).
At first glance, the hotel looked pleasant enough. My disappointment started when I opened the door to my room.
The "queen-sized" bed was actually only a full-sized bed. It was also lumpy and extremely wobbly. (My two office mates, who were sharing the bed, said that they couldn't move around too much since the space was limited, plus, they were afraid of falling off the bed since it would really "wobble" when anyone moved.)
The extra bed resembled a prison bed. You know the type. Steel framed, single mattress, which was so thin you could feel the steel through it. This bed wasn't wobbly, of course. It was creaky. This was the bed I used. Every time I turned, the bed would slide on the floor, and made a creaking sound.
Anyway, the worst part of the room was the bathroom. The tiles were moldy, and whenever we'd take a shower, (no bath tub), the water wouldn't drain efficiently. By the end of my shower, my feet would be submerged in soapy, dirty water up to my ankles. Ugh!
The water heater was useless as well. At best, the water temperature would only get lukewarm, and I like my water to be very hot. Sometimes while taking the shower, the water would turn cold. So unpleasant.
The towels they gave us smelled musty, and unclean. (Imagine taking used gym towels, pouring cologne over them, and then storing them in drafty lockers.) We asked for new towels, and they were not that much of an improvement on the first batch they gave. At least they only smelled musty. Not unclean. (Although I seriously doubt they were much cleaner than what was given first.)
Even the TV service was not great. The channels were extremely limited, and the reception was grainy.
The only saving grace that I could mention about the room is that the air conditioner was really cold when you set it to be. That's it.
The breakfast was okay, not outstanding, but at least it wasn't bad.
I can't say that I'd like to go back here willingly. So, book at your own risk.

Stayed here twice with prior reservation/booking. We just drove in and asked for a room and we were lucky that at bith instances, there were available rooms for all 7 of us! Comes with bfast but portions were kid-size. Dont worry as there are restaurants behind the hotel like pancake house, teriyaki boy, etc... Has a swimming pool too though there's no view. Room we stayed in was spacious and we required two extra beds and it still did not seem crowded. You can walk to Marina from here. Although quite far from Rizal Ave, where Harbor Point mall is.
