On checking in for 3 days I paid for my room cash up front and was shown my room. A few hours later received a text to say the room I was given was more expensive and I could either pay the difference or leave. After an argument I opted to pay the diff. but despite all the credit card signs on the counter the receptionist could not accept my card as she did not know how to operate the machine. I could not connect to the internet and was told if I looked on my key tag the password was there. However they soon discovered they had put the wrong password on my key. That night I found the new bedside lamp did not work, nor could I open the safe which was locked. The website stated tea and coffee were provided in the room, there was none, it also mentioned a bed cover or duvet, yet my bed had a single thin sheet. the bar fridge had a list of drink prices taped to the door, but was empty. The glass window was smashed and the broken glass held together with sticky tape (Picture provided !) On leaving I was told I did not need to pay the difference on the room !!

The location is at the heart of Olongapo city, a lot of bars and restaurants around but the place itself does not have in-house restaurant. This hotel is for sleeping and a plave to leave your things while you roam around the city or go to Baloy beach. They do have a garage but only 4 sedans can fit in and also if you are an experienced driver, you will be able to maneuver in tight spaces that you need to pass through to get to their parking area.
The staff are accommodating and very nice and the place is pet-friendly. It is very difficult to look for places that would allow pets. When we get back to Olongapo, we'll definitely check in here again.

Not beachfront but it was pet-friendly that’s why we chose it. It was a bit dark and a bit smelly. It was generally clean and people were pleasant. Wifi was ok. There was no lift therefore if you cant take stairs ask for the rooms at lower levels. Traffic noise can be heard in room 15.

If you are on a budget, this is certainly the place to be! I have stayed at this hotel a few times and really liked it.
Ok, there is no swimming pool, but beach is just across the street, as there are many bars and restaurants at walking distance as well.
Staff is friendly and roomsare basic and clean.
A thank you to I think here name was Mica from the reception, since when I checked in the amenities where not as mentioned on the agoda website. But, after a short chat with Agoda, always settled.

First time in Subic. Recommended by friends and booked an economy room. The location is not bad especially for those who like to visit bars at night. Economy room is clean but a bit outdated. Safe is provided but no fridge. Size is small but OK for solo traveler. Overall it's worth to try.

We stayed at the Pub Hotel from August 2-5, 2016. From the booking of our room to the last day of our stay, the hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly. Location is perfect for people who like to experience the nightlife scene of Subic bay.

Downsides first, no restaurant but easily purchased across the road & they'll bring to your room. We stayed on the 3rd floor but traffic noise was still quite noticeable.

Good points, good room size (Deluxe Room) at a great price. Clean, modern, nice flat screen with cable channels, good comfy bed. Refrigerator & aircon. Attentive staff. No complaints & except for the noise & lack of common rooms/resto I'd probably stay again.

I stayed at the Pub Hotel in late July 2012 . My room smelled of mold and mildew. Since there is no sound absorption, anything said or done in the hallways, you will hear in your room. There is no room service. The beds had a single sheet, no comforter. The staff were nice but, since that time, rates have been raised to p1500, not a good value. I even called them to confirm my reservation. When I got there, they had no idea I was coming, as the daytime desk clerk failed to inform the night staff.

Highlight: Easy to find. Along the National Highway. So if you are backpacking and doesn't have a car, this is a good choice. There are many restaurants nearby and people are friendly to give you directions. Noise level is not bad.

Downside: It can be a racy scene downstairs. Not good when you are bringing kids with you.

Overall, for a last minute booking, it was fine.

In Angeles, decided to check out Subic for the first time and a chat with travelers recommended The Pub Hotel in Baretto. I intended a 3 day visit but it became a month stay at The Pub, as my room, staff, location and locals gave me a homely feel in a holiday or ‘party time’ location. Subsequently returned to The Pub on 3 further occasions.

I ended up staying in the Philippines 6 months this time around, from September 2013 to March 2014, working, and visiting/traveling to see friends and just to relax. Made Baretto my home base because of The Pub, great people there and surrounding locals too.

The Pub has a variety of rooms, stayed in 4 different rooms each time I returned. All the rooms were homely, with Queen size beds and great quality mattresses. Large LCD TV’s, cable was great and uninterrupted, only down if the cable company had issues. Choice of Split system air cond with remote or a normal fan. Hot water with good water pressure. The Wi-fi was free and faster than other places I have stayed. Bed linen, pillows and towels all feel new and the room are cleaned every day efficiently and fresh like new.

Returning to The Pub in November, rooms had been updated with a Bar fridge, pay as you use drinks and chocolates, free Coffee & sugar, an electric kettle and personal electronic safe. Although there is no restaurant, The Pub has collaboration with "Sitting Bull" restaurant, and their menu is in every room. A convenience store/supermarket is just next door and along with ‘Sitting Bull’, it’s open 24 hours.

The Pub has a bar called "Rascal's", a 'cozy mid size nightclub' feel is my impression. A modern style bar very similar to "Juliana's" in Cebu and all the bar's in Borgus Street Makati. Cheap drinks, cheaper at Happy Hour, pool table and area away from the dancers for a chat, great air cond keeping you cool from the heat outside and the hot girls. It has all types of music from Creedance, AC/DC to Pitbull and J Lo, even Frank Sinatra !

At times during my 4 stay’s, music from Rascal’s Bar could be heard but was’nt an issue or as bad as some describe. I found guests with no consideration for others more annoying yelling as they returned after a night out. I have stayed on the 29th floor of the Citadel Hotel in Borgus, hearing traffic and taxi’s beep their horn, and again more inconsiderate guests. “The Philippines is more fun” and is noisy everywhere.

The Pub is located approximately 200 meters from Baretto proper, in a pocket where there are another 7 bars, 2 laundry shops and several ‘Filipino’ BBQ stalls. 100 meters towards Baretto proper is Ricco’s Filipino restaurant, Drydens pizza and Sitting Bull restaurant for western style dishes. 200 meters the other way and to the left, is ‘Baloy’ beach area with up market hotels and restaurants, and the beach of course.

Lastly, things which became important while staying at The Pub, and worth a mention is that The Pub has it’s own large generator and large capacity water tanks, which became a blessing in the storms and floods of September 2013 when there was no power and water for days. Power outages after that were common during my 4 stays in Baretto, as is the case in the Philippines in general.

So it was not only pleasing to stay somewhere that felt like home, it was pleasing to have all the comforts and services just like home. All this in a fun, holiday, location.

Tony
