Detailed Reviews
we booked via Agoda because of an emergency meeting at Subic Town, we found Johan Beach Resort.
Pros:
1. great beach front
2. a array of international cuisine
3. Room is more than enough for us
4. water pressure at the bathroom is more than enough (even though we are staying at the 2nd floor
5. Billiard table is available
6. very accommodating and friendly staff
Cons, since we booked at Agoda, we were clueless at the room we were getting. the booked room ay Agoda has a shared Comfort Room and small for four of us, the receptionist offer an bigger room with additional cost ( the additional cost is almost the price of another room.
Even with the additional cost, i will still recommend this resort. nice place, great people, enjoyable stay!!

This is my 2nd time that I have visited the place, and i really enjoyed going back here! We always get the kubo room by the beach front, affordable and you get to enjoy being at the beach. The room was cozy and has its own bathroom which we prefer.
They also serve food and beverage, we only tried snacks and beer. As we dont want to get drunk. They also has billiard pool available, and we were able to play.
Will definitely comeback because of the ambiance of the beach and room.

We were quite surprised with the accommodations when we got here. For 1,000 pesos we didn't expect air conditioning and a working TV. The bed was worn in but quite comfortable. The comfort room was small but functional. The food had a wide array of different cuisines. Service can be improved but we had a nice time none the less.

I had requested a quiet room and did receive a mail back saying I will then have to share a bathroom at no additional cost. I declined this offer thinking as I was paying for en-suite facilities. On arrival I was given a room in the bar next to the pool table, I complained and was told that is all that available. I said I will change hotel all of a sudden I could stay in a single cabana. When I checked out my bill was increased as I had chosen to stay in a cabana. My friends had booked a family room they were charged extra because they had a nanny with them.
Breakfast had to be cancelled, as after 1 hour still no food same happened at lunch time. Sewage smell outside..Room not clean and was not cleaned during my stay. Body hair & mold in the shower the water glass in the bathroom was filthy. The area outside my room looked more like a scrap yard than a resort and was used as a workshop, forget being able to take an afternoon nap. One morning I woke to the smell of petrol as a mechanic was cleaning a starter motor outside. The staff also had very noisy lunches outside the room. The slabs to the beach have steel lifting eyes protruding out - trip hazard.Â
On the diving side the instructor who was teaching my friend an AOW Course was very professional. The boat was not designed for diving nor well maintained. No  place to store tanks/equipment all strewn across the floor. Spilt fuel on the floor making it very slippery. oxygen only on the boat once in 3 days & no life jackets.

Response from JohanDeSadeleir, Owner at Johan's Beach And Dive Resort
Responded Feb 19, 2020
It is already a month ago since we had the pleasure to have you as a welcome guest in our resort. You say: Possibly the worst dive resort in the Philippines - Than you state: The instructor who was teaching my friend an Advanced open water Course was very professional. You say: Do not pay a deposit - We say: You never paid a deposit, but your friend did for his room and course. We even picked you up in Manila airport without a deposit paid from you at our own risk. You say: Safety needs improvement - The slabs to the beach have steel lifting eyes protruding out - trip hazard. We answer: the lifting eyes are there to tight things up during typhoon season to improve the safety on holding down objects, they come out the deck by a bit and are rounded so very difficult to trip over them. We mailed quite a few times before you decided on which room you would stay and how and where we had to pick you up, that is fine we give our customers the chance to change their minds. Upon arrival you wanted to change again which is fine again and you changed to a more expensive room from Php 1200 to Php 1500 this was verbally announced by the clerk who showed the room. Your friend booked a family room of Php 2000 good for two plus Php 500 each extra person and showed up with 4 persons. We explained him he had to pay extra Php 500 per person and charged him only one person and let the young child stay for free which he understood and accepted. He was very happy with the deal of room and diving class. Food delivery might take a while, every meal is cooked fresh, we have minimum 2 cooks working at the same time but if more people order at the same time we still deliver the same quality food as soon as possible. We check every day with our guests if they want to have their room cleaned, you refused while you had "a lot of things lying around in your room". There might be some works going on in a dive shop but we try not to disturb our customers We will inform our staff to be quiet while lunching. We used our smallest boat to get you and your friend diving which is designed for 4 divers only so no need for fancy racks on a small boat like that, all our bigger boats have nice storage compartments for op to 15 divers. Boxes with your equipment are carried on board by our staff every dive trip. Your wet suit makes you float in the water, if passengers are in the boat they will be fitted there personal live jacket Thanks for the tip that oxygen was not on board during some of your dives, this should be there every dive and we got 10 oxygen tanks stand by. We think as a PADI IDC staff instructor in non teaching status you should talk about problems you have, the management is there to help you overcome your daily problems. Always there to help your staying with us in the most comfortable way we can. Johan De Sadeleir

Dropped by here for 2 meals. 1st time the waitress was accommodating but the food is overpriced. Unseasoned fries with cheap mayonnaise/mayomagic. A guy staff kept staring at my wife.
2nd time was the worst. When we went in to ask for service ,they literally said "what do you want?" WTF is that? Then we got the menubook. I went back to order and received the same attitude. What in the world did they have for breakfast to be that grumpy? The waitress kept on insisting to get our room number when I already repeatedly said we were not booked in their hotel. Then the same girl followed me to our table and asked in a rude tone, "Did you bring food or drink from outside? Hide it because we don't allow that here." Such rude people. Iced tea was not even stirred enough to melt all the Nestea powder they've put in it.
Pizza just came. P270 for a 9 inch, premade crust, i even bet this is premade frozen pizza, ketchup based sauce, not even mozarella cheese. Sad sad pizza.
I will never recommend this place to anyone anytime.

We arrived from Hagonoy fairly early and had a walk around the town before walking down the beach to the waterfront side of the resort. When we made certain they was expecting us they offered to hold our belongings until check in time so we got to do some more exploring. We upgraded to a Nipa hut for only 300 peso more and was well worth it. Air conditioning and our own bathroom was kind of unexpected. The staff was helpful and catered to our needs. One man I talked to down the beach asked where we was staying and when I told him Johan's, he said "They are good people." For me it was not a diving trip but they appeared to be fully stocked for it. It was a very memorable experience and I will be sure to visit again when I get back to Subic Bay!

Classic bait and switch. Booked a family room online. Arrived at Johan's and was told that they were fully booked and had no record of my reservation even though my credit card had already been charged. They were quick to find alternative accommodations at a lesser facility which had no working wifi, broken tv, totally uncomfortable bed & pillows and could not provide a room rate sheet. Felt totally abused and ripped off. I've since read other reviews and Johan's has done this to others before. Don't stay at Johan's Beach and Dive at any price.

When my family and I checked in, we did not get what we reserved as far as rooms. I had paid half of the deposit prior to arriving. Ding right there but could not do anything at this time. They stated rooms under construction but was not told prior to arrival. Johans tried to accommodate so we stayed. The management and crew were very nice but place just so run down and the pictures on their website not current from rooms to food menu. Later on was told the owner Johan’s passed away last year and only the wife and family now running the place. They truly need to renovate everything there from rooms, restaurant. I was told by family that they even charge for extra ice in the bucket for drinks and the food was substandard and expensive. The only think we liked were the fries and fried chicken and of course the fresh fruits. I booked this place as I have watched vlogs about their scuba classes and supposively better place to learn. Don’t know if I would even come back to do this. Was soooo disappointed and so were my family. Thank goodness we had other places to visit and do in the day. Here’s a suggestion Johan’s…you have great staff but owner truly needs to put a lot of money into this place as this was one of the worst places I’ve stayed at and probably never stay at again due to the room conditions. Needs a lot of work. Please update your website as most data not current. Will not recommend at all to anyone. Sorry for the bad review but truth needs to be told. Lesson learned.

I stayed here with my 2 son's in May/June 2017. The service standards and attitude of the staff were absolutely appalling. Johan the Belgian owner is also incredibly rude, curt and truculent. I would recommend most strongly that this is NOT a place to stay if you are expecting any level of pleasant or polite service. The rooms are actually OK as is the food in the restaurant. The scuba school is also good - my 2 sons took a lesson and did an introductory dive which they said was great. It's all down to attitude and the appalling manner in which Joahn seems to think he can talk to guests.

I am a paying customer, i expect to be treated atleast decently. But you cant get that in this resort, the Service is terrible, staff are arrogant. They will frown, make faces and sarcasticaly answer your queries. Waited for decades for our food and other requests. No TV, the one in the room is just for display. When theres no available cablebox, SORRY for us. No effOrt on their part to makeup for it, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE CONFIRMED EARLIER THAT THE BOX IS AVAILABLE. If you want to ruin your vacation THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO.

We answered some of your comments in previous reviews, would you be one of the customers who try to get an extra person in the room without paying and bringing your own foods in the restaurant? A frown (also known as a scowl) is a facial expression in which the eyebrows are brought together, and the forehead is wrinkled, usually indicating displeasure, sadness or worry, or less often confusion or concentration. If you check in and there are cable boxes available you should order one and you will be able to see 72 channels 24 hours a day.
