Ever wanna go to a... hotel that's actually a place for hoes and DOMs? This that place. The staff treats us like we did not have money just because we went there simple looking as we wanted a weekend off. Then the reception entertained an american with a girl and immediately got them a room while we wait for ours. We were first of course and so my partner (who is really Chinese national) got furious and spoke to them in infuriating Mandarin english! That was the only time we got a room.

The room was horrible it smelled like an attic full of dust and when we complained they told us there was nothing wrong. They appeared like going violent on us just to make us shut up. The room also smelled like dried up sperm. Oh man!

The restaurant is also across the street.what?? The Filipino singers were great however serving us with drinks took forever.
I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE.

Dear John, After checking our records we cannot find any evidence of your stay at our property, which is not surprising, as your comments in no way reflect our operation. I believe you are mistaken in which resort you actually stayed. Also, why would one make such damning remarks nearly one year after the event. We have ignored your comments and suggest you check your facts and remove this slur from tripadvisor. Regards, GRAEME S. GOLDBERG C.E.O. Wild Orchid Group

Despite the generally oldish rooms and poor service, I have stayed here many times when I go cycling in Subic on the weekends as I can get a hot breakfast even very early in the morning and Incan go for a swim after I cycle. Howeve, the many inadequacies of the place are wearing me down and af34 this last visit, I'm unwilling to throw away my money on a place that never improves.

What are the facts:

1. When I checked in, two of the ladies at the desk ran my credit card through the machine well over a dozen times but because it was offline or some other issue, they couldnt get the transaction completed. They left me standing in front of them as they tried again and again over many minutes. It wasnt until I told them to give me my key and they could spend as many hours as they liked in their futile exercise that they awoke to my presence. After eight hours of cycling in the rain, I wanted a shower.

2. I realized after my shower that there were no towels in the room. I let myself drip dry and then returned to the checkin and asked to have towels put in the room. By now they had finally completed the transaction so returned my credit card and agreed that housekeeping would put towels in my room.

3. I went to eat. I ordered the same thing I order every time I'm here - tenderloin, medium rare with salad. The guy (yet another new face, it seems that almost the entire staff change every week) told me it didnt come with salad. So I said then Im ordering a salad in addition. A few minutes later, he told me it did come with salad then a few minutes later, one of the lady servers asked me to repeat my order....I told her that if she and her male colleague couldnt do this incredibly simple task, why not just give customers pen and paper and we could write down our own orders and and give to the kitchen?

4. I returned to my room after eating to find...still...no towels. i went to desk, fairly pissed off at his point, and said 'get me someone to bring towels to me here and put in my hands. i am standing here until that happens'

There were a few more instances like his before I checked out the next morning but I think this is enough to give you a clear idea for the stunning level of incompetence.

Dont stay here.

I would have given this place four stars. My rating consists of the service, my room and the people at this hotel. I am a woman and travels alone most of the time. I think many people wonders when they see a single woman like me wanting to stay at place like this. Which known for having too many bar girls around, where men would rather have companion by their side, or any girl to keep them company and what not.

I guess this place is not good for any woman, a single traveler that is. I'm not sure if they take it personal, or not too sure on how to take me? The place and the setting is ok, I wouldn't go far on a wow factor! I had the room at the corner on the second floor, facing some apartment, where all I noticed was men with their escorts ladies coming and going ouf of the place.

The staff at the bar/pool side wasn't really that friendly towards me? it took an effort just to get a drink on the pool side. It's a shame because I was here during the new years festivities, and I've never felt more alone with all these people around me. I've stayed here few nights and I couldn't wait to get the hell out. It was very intimidated and I wasn't that comfortable sitting there having my food or drinks. Trying to get someone to wait on me by the pool side, that one was really frustrating during my stay. Some guests, accompanied with bar girls, were allowed to get nasty, loud and almost half naked in the pool, at broad daylight! So disgusting!

The only best thing of this stay for me, was actually seeing the fireworks while having my drinks on the beach and listening to the band play.

First of all, Wild orchid is in Bario Baretto – not Olongapo. For those who are new, Olongapo is the city just outside the CBD – Central business district of Subic bay metropolitan administration. It is the place people often call Subic (and which was the main US Naval base). Bario is about 8 kms from Olongapo (that is 20-30 mins by Jeepney since the road has curves like a snake so vehicles cannot go fast)

Subic bay is the ENTIRE bay area – extending on one corner from the Hanjin ship yard – right though about 40 kilometres, along towns like Subic (which is a rather small town as compared to Olongapo), Barrio Baretto (which is where the bulk of hotels along the beaches are), Kalaklan (the town adjacent to SBMA on the north west, which now has a bridge), Olongapo (a bustling town just outside the ex navy base, to the north), the suburbs of Subic / SBMA like Binictican heights, Kalayaan heights, the so called Subic International airport (which was used for DHL cargo only, but is now no longer in use) right upto All hands beach (where the Hanjin private pier exists), the Hanjin apartments and Ocean park.

Baloy beach is just a narrow strip of beach – not very wide (about 10 feet?) but pretty long and, most importantly, un-populated, hence a good leisurely place to be. If you come here at night, you will get the impression you are entering “no mans land”! since the road is dimly lit. Baloy beach road is narrow, feels more like an alley, and the road is bad. During the day, the road changes complexion completely – it has small hotels one after the other on the left side - sandwiched between teh road and the beach – they are all budget (except for White rock on the right side which is luxurious and pricey), some have families staying, some have westerners with Filipina “girlfriends”, all are decent and I have seen many Filipino families stay in them (with wife, kids, lolo, lola et al). So yes – you can come here with your wife and kids and it will feel perfectly normal and safe (unlike Angeles and Fields which, though also safe, are generally a mens Disneyland. Though now, with many gigolo bars, they are turning into a women’s Disneyland too!) .

Like all other hotels in this strip, this one too has a “private” part of the beach - which is bigger than all the rest.

The largest hotel in Bario and the only one, really, that qualifies to be called a “resort”. International standards, (and far more affordable than international resorts). I stayed here for only 1 day, and felt the facilities were worth what I was spending (though I generally tend to prefer smaller establishments).

Nice comfy rooms, bed was soft, many of the rooms (naturally at a higher price) face the sea – if you really want clean blue waters, don’t come during the rainy season – that is June to September. I have been here both – during the wet and the dry season, and it is amazingly different. Especially the views. Of course, prices in dry season are double of the wet season. The wet season has it’s own charm as it is cool, wet and the seas are a veritable sight and the place is bereft of too many people (not isolated).

Hotels in Bario are slowly getting popular with the crowds from Manila, so if you are coming here without a booking, try coming on Friday night. Else, book before you come (you can use the hotel website)

We took our family here for the weekend and rented 3 rooms. 1 beachfront and 2 regular. The beachfront room was musky and hot, and the bathroom was filty (black rings in the toilet bowls). The hot shower didn't work so beware when turning it on, you will be showered in cold water. I suggest to let the water run for 3-5 minutes before turning the shower head on. If you are bringing extra people, they charge P1000 for extra person per night and additional P1000 for extra bed per night. Im not sure why its called a resort since they have the same thing as regular hotels. Pool was Very nice, cold but nice enough. The beach was disgusting! Trash EVERWHERE! I do not recommend swimming there! Before booking your trip, I suggest to look at the beach first if that's what you're coming there for. It is a public pool, but they could've still take care of it since its the main reason we stayed there...a beachfront resort! Also, mosquitos, moisquitos, mosquitos..i have scar from scratching so much while dining at the resort restaurant.

I’ve written this in proper paragraph format, however, it may wind up running together once uploaded.

Not really sure where to start. I’m a seasoned traveller of 20+ years and I felt an obligation to provide fellow travellers with a review of my experience.

I’ll credit the good stuff first. The room was okay. WiFi service was outstanding. The shower was very good. The food is very good, with few exceptions. The pool is good. The main building restaurant and the beach side restaurant are good facilities. If you’re on the 3rd floor or higher, the view of Subic Bay is very good. The majority of staff is delightful.

It gets really bad now. Of all the mismatches between the advertising / marketing photos and the real thing, this hotel takes the prize. I feel disillusioned and duped. I had previously stayed at The Wild Orchid in Angeles City and it gets top marks in every category. That’s why I was looking forward to a similar quality of hotel in Olongapo. It’s worth noting that I paid more for The Wild Orchid in Olongapo than I paid for the fantastic Crimson Hotel in Alabang.

This hotel is tired, run down and in desperate need of TLC. My stay here at The Wild Orchid in Olongapo was disappointing and depressing. The adjacent slum next to my room had dogs barking and roosters crowing 24/7. I needed to use ear plugs in order to sleep.

The beach? Not the hotel’s fault but not on your life. Totally trashed – and I mean totally trashed – with a full spectrum of waste that’s perpetually washed ashore. After our first visit to the beach, we avoided it for the rest of our 10 day stay.

It’s hard to tell when this place was last painted externally above the 1st floor but it’s definitely been a while. Very faded exterior with lengthy rust streaks down the sides wherever metal attachments contact a wall. Upon entering the parking area from the street and making one’s way toward the lobby, there are decaying remnants of a miniature golf course and a ?go cart track?.

At check in, I was processed by a smileless, soulless associate who was quick and keen to lecture me on the don’t’s which we must obey. Just what I needed after a 28 hour journey.

The hotel is not close to anything one would reasonably want to go see or do and hotel fares for transportation are quite steep. Alternative transport choices consist of nearby trikes or jeepneys.

I wrestled with whether or not I should include photos of the degraded conditions, the deplorable beach and the adjacent slum which was all too visible from my room. In the end, I decided not to take these specific photos. I don’t need these types of digital memories and you don’t need the increased risk of eye cancer.

I’ve already chalked it up to one of those life experiences. The booking was non-refundable, as were my flights. I couldn’t afford to pay additional costs or else I certainly would have checked out and stayed somewhere else. This forum is an avenue for me to give others a summary of my experience in order to help them make informed decisions. There’s no doubt that there’ll be a predictable, canned management response to my post. Maybe it’ll even be a copy and paste version from an already well-used management response.

Wishing you safe journeys wherever you go…

On the 10th June myself and my friend checked into to Wild Orchid Subic.
I checked into room 233 and immediately noted the safe deposit box did not appear to be functioning and both box battery covers were removed and the shelf inside was also removed.

I had 28k php in my bag and had no option but to keep the money there.

That nite before going out, I checked again, recounted the money removed 3k and placed 25k back in the bag and went out for the nite.

The next morning on the 11th, I made a request to change rooms due to the noise of several families on the same floor as us and you were kind enough to arrange for this to be done and we agreed we would do this after breakfast which we took around 10am.

I then went to breakfast and left the "please clean room" sign on my door.

I then returned after breakfast and noted the room had been cleaned/serviced.
I then packed my things and relocated to room 471.

Later that evening of the 11th when preparing to go out, I unpacked my things and went to take some of the money that was in my bag only to find it wasn't there.

I then called Front Desk and asked to check room 233 and also the safe in room 471 but there were not monies found.
The funds had been "removed".

I note that during this time only the cleaners and a long time friend had been in the room. I had not left my bag unattended with my long time friend nor would I think they would need to take my money.

This only leaves me to conclude that either the cleaners or another party has gained access and removed the funds.

I note that I texted details to the manager we also met the next day to report details to you. He advised that he would investigate and check CCTV however there are no CCTVs and no investigation was done nor were police advised.

1. Arrival: On arrival, we presented our Metrobank deposit slips as proof that we had paid our room nights in full in advance. This was from the promo in April that if we booked for June and paid in full we would receive 25% off, so we did. The reception staff constantly told us that what we had paid was incorrect, and we needed to pay more. We explained that we had paid in full. We had to show the reception staff the emails that were showing communication from Wild Orchid Subic stating the amount we had paid was correct. Without this email evidence, Wild Orchid would not have honored our full payment. Big fail from Wild Orchid Subic to begin our weekend.
2. Room: Headboard had very obvious mold on it. Two Dim lights in the Bathroom could barely see.
3. Service at the Barefoot Bar: This is where we experienced most of the incredibly poor service. The staffs were always too busy chatting to each other. We constantly were trying to get their attention. They were ignorant, and couldn’t even follow the orders they wrote down. We constantly experienced incorrect orders, or they forget orders. When we would check on the missing items they would walk away but not check on them, this made us more and more upset as you can imagine. When we asked on updates to the food or drink orders they would ignore us. We didn’t expect 5 star services but were given 1 star service. If they were my staff and treated customers the same way I would replace the staff. We did complain formally to the Resort Manager, Day 2, who was apologetic for our experiences, but nothing really changed for the rest of the trip.
4. Food quality: Food quality was poor at best. Day 1, I had the Burger and it was barely warm and chewy, disgusting. Day 2, I had the Lasagna (because it was really good at Wild Orchid Angeles), but here it was cold and disgusting. The sugar for the coffee was full of ants. The coffee was barely warm. The carbonara turned up 40 mins later and was cold. The nachos were the most disgusting we have had. The chef in the kitchen should be replaced. He is terrible.
5. Noise Complaint: I Booked the Beachfront View Rooms for the premium experience. On Sunday morning, the resort had allowed around 40 persons to setup Volleyball and large speakers and begin their party at 6:30am. And most of them were not registered guests only some of them. This is a ridiculous time to be waking customers up. My Friend next door contacted reception 3 times before they sent someone to investigate. By then, He was very unhappy about the lack of urgency shown by Wild Orchid staff. Eventually staff realized that the party shouldn’t start until 8:30-9:00am but again another major fail by Wild Orchid Subic.
6. Departure: And to finish the totally poor experience with Wild Orchid before we left, the reception tried to charge my friend for room items that we didn’t use. This was the end for Wild Orchid Subic.

Final comments: My colleagues and I are very tolerable about service and quality standards, and we understand that Wild Orchid is not a 5 star business, and staffs do make some service errors, we understand that. Our experiences at Wild Orchid Angeles with staff service, food and beverage quality, and general check-in/out has always been reasonably good. But the experience at Wild Orchid Subic from check-in to check-out for us on this trip was a complete and total fail. The lack of service standards and food standards is the worst we have experienced of any resort before and should be an embarrassment. Honestly, the experience was bad enough that we will never stay there again, and will never recommend it to anyone we know. There are plenty of resorts there to choose from that I’m sure would like our future business.

I expected a whole lot more from this hotel from a buddy of mine who stayed here last year. He recommended this place with flying colors but that a lot has gone down hill.

For starters their elevator was broken and they put me on the 4th floor, with no discount offered except 20% off because I was paying cash up front.
I was constantly dealing with ants and cockroaches. After I told the front desk about it they said they would spray for them but that did not work; they were determined.
I could never get a day's worth of sleep in because I worked the night shift and they always had someone hammering something during the day on my floor for hours on end.
On my final night there I walked into a rusted puddle of condensation from my AC and nearly slipped on it.
I paid 65 US dollars a night to stay here and looking at the rates of other hotels I believe I was ripped off to the core. I will not be staying at this hotel again for next trip to Subic.

The location wasn't as great as I thought it would be. For those planning a trip to subic, please get the hotels that are located IN the freeport area and not the ones "near" it like this property. We only stayed for 1 night due to a lot of reasons apart from its location. The lobby was spacious, i love the wooden antique decor and interior that reminded me of a tavern that's warm and welcoming. The front office staff and concierge were all friendly and attentive. The check-in process took us an Hour and a half, lo and behold they only have 2 housekeeping staff on duty. I pity the staff, they're all overloaded with work. The lobby by the way is swarming with mosquitoes in the morning and late afternoon so make sure you have mosquito repelant lotion on you.

In the hotel profile it says that it's a beach front property hotel, which is PARTIALLY true... you have to CROSS the street to get to their other property where the restaurant and beach are. It was so bloody inconvenient for our group to cross the street where vendors, pedicabs, and cars pass by while we parade the streets in our swimwear. The beach wasn't great either. :( We ended up using the pool which was nice by the way, BUT for those traveling with kids, don't use the pool at night. The pool has a bar where a lot of things "happen" which kids aren't suppose to see. As for the rooms, well the rooms were clean and spacious, but not sound proof, hence we stayed up all night because of a freakin kid crying at the top of his lungs at 2am! and it wasn't in the same floor where we are. In the morning when we checked out,There were other guest in reception complaining about the noise, we were not the only ones who didn't get enough sleep, one guest was furious, he even threatened not to pay his bill because of the discomfort caused by the noise. We on the other hand left and vowed not to return to this hotel EVER.

I agree with the answer of BudgetTaveler91411. The room we had costs around 80 USD per night. It's a beachfront room with 1 king size bed. The food is quite expensive. We spent around 20 USD per person per day. Jetski costs around 65 USD per hour. So if I think 500-750 USD is enough for 5 days. Nothing much to do there.
