I feel bad for this place. When they built it they obviously spent a great deal of time money and effort. Sadly, they just haven't kept up the maintenance. I counted 6 problems in my room after being in it 5 minutes. Pool is great. The rest just needs so much attention. Look elsewhere if you want a nice fresh room.

Have stayed here several times. Consistently good service, great pool, and big rooms. Good value. Hope they can reinstate the bbq and nighly music but understand that tourist numbers still recovering. Best thing is the wonderful and friendly staff .

This hotel has seen better times, it's pretty run down and due for renovation.

The pool is still nice and the location right at the beach is good.

Food is good and affordable.

Rooms are bare but roomy.

They should tear down that eyesore of a former water park in front of the hotel: it hasn't been active since I first saw it 10 years ago...

I had read reviews that Wild Orchid has bad service, but these turned out to be dramatic understatements - there is next to no service at all. You can see from my reviews I have massive experience traveling in Asia and I mostly write positive reviews. We were the only group pool-side and only one or two other people were dotted around the restaurant, so not busy at all. I started by ordering a coffee.. 30 minutes later it had not showed up as we made our breakfast order. Another 10 minutes later I gave up I went and got the coffee myself. I asked why they are having trouble and she replied “We are so busy Sir" .. while nobody else was around.

Firstly, just half of one of my friends breakfast showed up. He asked where the rest was, the toast and tea. 5 minutes later the toast was bought out on a second trip. Then a third trip the tea came out. I politely asked her why she made 3 trips, repeating the question as I was eager for an answer but she just said 'sir, sir?' I started to worry as I asked where the other breakfasts are. One more then came out.

My wife and I waited as the others began to eat. Approaching one hour our meals finally arrived. My eggs Benedict was stone cold, obviously it had been sitting on the bench cold as the cook prepared my wife's food. It must have been sitting there more than 20 minutes because there was no warm temperature in it whatsoever. The cook hadn't drained the water off the poached eggs and it had soaked into the cold wet bread. I siphoned one and half more tissues full of water off the plate… so he had clearly given me two large spoons-full of water along with the poached eggs. It was disgusting, and hard to eat with the spoon provided - no knife. (That came out well after I gave up eating). The extra hash brown requested was actually black, burned and soggy with oil, really revolting and I didn’t eat it.

We signalled to the waitress and she came to take our order for shakes. About to leave the table without taking any of the dirty plates with her, I called her back to clear the table and she took just one plate. After a while I got so tired of the flies hanging around the dirty plates, we just cleared the table ourselves, transferring the mess to the empty table beside us. The shakes soon came out. I asked the girl if she can see the rubbish all around the resort pool (Check the photos) and asked her why she just keeps walking past it.. she just kept saying “Sir, sorry Sir”. Looking into the vacant space behind her glazed eyes was like looking into a cows eyes standing idol in a paddock, only - a cow grazing on sticky buds. Not much activity going on up in that skull, if any at all.

More friends arrived and started ordering beer and a different waitress came this time. Leaving our table without taking even one piece of the collection of around 5 empty shake glasses that by now are making a lovely fly-trap.

Another foreign guest arrived and was entering the pool. I watched him also point out to this waitress about rubbish everywhere .. she just walked away back to the bar. We couldn’t take another minute of this place and opted to attend the bar to pay the bill, not wanting to risk a 45 minute bill-out. While we were at the bar I asked to the two waitresses and one other staff why they didn’t clean up the trash around the pool even when two guests had asked about it, but I was just met with blank stares.

The bill-out and pay procedure approached 10 minutes even though we had gone up to the counter - they had run off to look for change as we were determined to not leave any tip. A few more minutes went by and I asked them again why they refuse to pick up the trash around the pool. “I said can I have a plastic bag? ..I will go do it.” I repeated “can I have a plastic bag” and started getting very irritated. Now they are all just staring at me. Eventually I went in behind the bar myself and grabbed a plastic bag from the rubbish bin. I took it and filled it up with all the trash I was just sick of looking at. By the time I filled the bag and got back to the bar they had all fled. No-one was to be found at all, so I took the bag of trash to the reception and flung it on the counter and told the lot of them what a rotten experience we have just had.

My wife told me later that the waitress was ‘rolling her eyes’ when I wasn’t looking at her. So clearly she wasn’t learning anything and thinks I am the one in the wrong.

The pool at Wild Orchid is terrific and I have stayed at this hotel on about a dozen occasions, but never again even if it was free and if I could just serve myself.! I can’t tolerate the untrained, un-experienced, idiot staff and no manager anywhere.

It was a total disappointed. I came with my boyfriend and there were some prostitutes inside the hotel trying to head on my boyfriend and make some money. The restaurant and the bar tried couple time to charge more that we actually ate and drank. We got an awful view, the menu did not have too many options, besides the ATM always broken. The area was really ugly and dark, with a lot of mug. I felt everyone was trying to cheat to get more money out of us. The mini bar was full of old food. It was very uncomfortable to go on holidays and and just see old men with prostitutes.

If you want to have romantic days, THIS IS THE WORST OPTION!

We checked into the hotel around 3pm. Left 2 hours later. Why?

Check-in took over 30 minutes and there was no one there but us. Which we later thought back and realized this should have been our first clue.

No Hot Water in the shower. called for help, they said they'd send someone. 45 minutes later, no one. called again, same reply, same response.

Shower Towels with holes. Not small holes, holes a small child could crawl through. The weird thing is that they were washed and folded into a heart shape on the bed, which means someone saw the hole, and assumed it was OK to leave towels with big holes in them for the customer to use. It was almost comical.

Bathroom ceiling with black mold. We noticed within 10 minutes of entering our room. Which brings up another question. If we noticed it within 10 minutes, what is the staff see when they clean the room? Are they blind?

Mosquitos. OK, it's the tropics, but why does the room have 30-40 mosquitos flying around in it? Did they leave the doors open the night before? Strange

After deciding to leave 2 hours after we arrived, an assitant manager apologized for the problems, telling us he's only been working their 2 weeks (he was Austrailian) and said it's a mess right now and he's working on fixing it.

He said he would be happy to refund our money, which was only $200 dollars for 2 rooms for 1 night each. Four days later I get an email from Captain John Robert Willies (yes that's his name) saying there will be no refund because we used the room for 2 hours.

I really don't care about the $200. If they need it that bad and are willing to accept negative reviews as a trade, then that's up to them.

But, to apologize to the customer and tell them they will not charge them, and then later waffle on their agreement tells us more about upper management and their inability to follow through.

Looking back the parking lot was empty, so was the lobby, and we didn't see anyone in the swimming pool in the middle of day. It seemed deserted. Weird.

I could not recommend this hotel to anyone. They do not understand how to run a hotel and care about customers.

I expected a lot from this hotel, as I regularly pass through Angeles and stay at the Wild Orchid hotel there; this one is great, one of the few hotels I always return to rather than break new ground.

I remember about 13 years ago looking at this huge Subic land-site and empty building... it was an abandoned concrete shell then. It would have been a massive and expensive re-build into what is now a beautiful resort.

I remember hearing from friends who live in Subic about the most amazing huge swimming pool they were building. I looked at the photos of the finished pool and the new resort on line.... I have wanted for years to try out that pool and this resort.

Finally my chance came up for a weekend away from working in Manila and I eagerly booked on-line. I tossed up between a Poolside room and a Beachfront room that I found were a similar price of around 5,500 Peso. If it is anything like the resort in Angeles it is well worth paying an extra 1,000 or 1,500 Peso for what turns out to be a much better room. I chose Beachfront because I thought we could use the beautiful huge pool anyway.

On arrival I found the pool had no water, being under renovation. I was totally deflated, and a bit angry that I wasn’t warned. Good thing I didn’t choose the Poolside room! I asked at reception when the pool would be filled. One who appeared to be the manager was unapologetic and loudly exclaimed it would be 7 to 10 days to fill.... (and it seemed – ‘No, I am not sorry’).
The beachfront room was lovely...we were in room 03 right at the far end, just two rooms from the boundary.

I read other reviews saying the kitchen here wasn't great, and they were right. After testing the food with a 'seafood chowder' we didn't order anything else to eat from the resort. Funny, because the Wild Orchid Angeles kitchen is just terrific.

Things were not perfect. As we started to try to relax and soak up the beautiful Subic Bay.... oh oh, some Karaoke beside the hotel kicked into action with awful singing that droaned into the afternoon. I also noticed there was a considerable amount of cleaning and maintenance staff walking past our room, making it far from private. I investigated and found there is a maintenance store beside room 01 on the boundary to the Karaoke. OK, not great. Now we got no privacy with a staff person walking past every two minutes, and terrible karaoke singing... and no big pool to go retreat too. (To be fair, there are smaller much less impressive pools at the other side (front entrance) of the resort, and quite a walk away).

So we left for the afternoon and went to the Blue Rock Resort (see an earlier review) and enjoyed our time on the floating bar all afternoon and in to the evening.

The next beautiful sunny day the karaoke was quiet, so that was a relief. I asked for a couple of towels as we planned to use the beach to swim. We were bought two dirty old towels that were clearly used for cleaning the floor...see the photo I uploaded, ghastly! Ok so I went myself and found better towels from the staff beside the empty pool. We proceeded to the beach.
The vendors on Subic beach are intense! They can’t take no for an answer and unlike Blue Rock (who rope off a no-go area off, and allow vendors in one at a time, and only at the guests request) this resort management makes no effort to control them.

The beach was great, other than the litter... I ignored this as much as I could. However on my way back up to the resort I collected 4 plastic bags, two plastic containers, 2 chip packets, 1 playing card and some plastic cutlery. I handed the pile of rubbish to a resort staff and said ‘You Filipino’s should care more for your beautiful country’. Another smartly dressed resort staff person watched and listened on...then later he threw a half finished cigarette on to the beach right there where I handed the rubbish over. Slow learners I guess, and clearly no control from management.

The beach looked 100% better after just that 1 minute removing rubbish (me, the guest).....SO WHY ISN'T THE RESORT DOING IT?? What about the council? .....yeah right.
The revenue from one just ONE guest for just ONE night could clean the whole beach for a week and provide a local person a job, yet the rubbish will surely deter many guests from ever returning.

We hired a Jet Ski and had fun in the bay until it too sucked up a plastic bag and left us stranded.
Blue Rock (a well run 3.5 star) rakes their beachfront clean early EVERY morning before the guests wake up. So what’s the Orchid management doing?

So to my point - why spend millions creating an amazing resort only to stop a few hundred Peso short, and serve up dirty ripped towels and have rubbish on the beach? This venue is great, but clearly not managed with the polish of the Angeles venue.

One last note...if the resort put a second pool on the beach front that would be awesome!... and I would surely be back (see photo attached).

I travel as a part of my job.... one thing I never find is a hotel that are willing to offer any compensation to a guest they have let down. Why not offer a certificate or voucher, so if the guest comes back they are promised a room upgrade, or a meal, just a couple of drinks or anything! This could serve as a way to attract that guest to return, offering the hotel another chance at impressing them. Hospitality managers only seem to care about the bottom line revenue for the current month or day alone.... and as a business owner I cant understand that.

Will I go back to Wild Orchid Subic? ....I am not sure.

I agree with the answer of BudgetTaveler91411. The room we had costs around 80 USD per night. It's a beachfront room with 1 king size bed. The food is quite expensive. We spent around 20 USD per person per day. Jetski costs around 65 USD per hour. So if I think 500-750 USD is enough for 5 days. Nothing much to do there.
