Excellent staff, good food.
They go out of there way to make your stay enjoyable.
The room I stayed in was adequate.
Large range of tv stations good a.c. and hot showers .
Internet was a bit slow but they got a router into the room and all was good.
I probably wouldn't employ the person that laid the tiles but that is my only (small) negative.
Would definitely recommend.

I staying in the hotel at the end of September 2015 and found it to be excellent , the staff were helpful and polite and although renovation was going on it did not disturb me too much , however when I came to check out they claimed I had damaged the umbrella and although I had used it once it was not damaged and the umbrella they showed me had a different room number on it ! . Unfortunately I did not have time to s=argue as I had a plane to catch so I just paid for a replacement , it was a bad end to the stay and left a bad taste so you should thoroughly check all items in the room upon checking in to avoid this

I booked a room at this hotel via their website for a few days commencing 8th March. On the 8th of January I recieve an email from them saying the driver was waiting for me at the airport. What the? I pronptly emailed them an advised there was some kind of mistake and that I had only just booked the hotel the day before and that it was for my trip in March. They pretty much told me too bad and they were deducting a nights accomodation and the cost of the driver from my credit card..and they did. I tried to explain the them that thy had made a mistake and my booking was for March not January. Once again I was informed the managers decision was to charge me for the room and driver. Basically they decided to steal from my credit card...they messed up my booking so I have to pay for a room I was never going to use.
I tried to explain to them that there had been a mistake and if they were adamant on taking money from me for nothing then I would cancel my march booking and I would never return to theie hotel ever again. Just thieving and dumb customer service. They have cost themselves my repeat business and that of many of my friends who visit angeles regularly.

Response from Manager-RA-Hotel, Manager at Hotel Royal Amsterdam
Responded Jan 14, 2014
Pointing the finger on others in order to hide one’s own incompetence and mistake. That was exactly what this writer did. And using words like “ Thieves “ and “ stealing “ for sure will attract many readers and easily will create a certain animosity versa the respondent. But the real truth behind the scene looks quite different. Our problem is that we are not allowed according to “ Management Response Guidelines “ from tripadvisor to include in our response correspondence from the guest. That would change the story immediately. 1. By his own fault, the guest made a timely error when making the reservation. 2. When his reservation was confirmed on his indicated date, he still did not realize it, as there was still ample time for correction. 3. It is a normal worldwide procedure to charge guests for No-Show and for airport transfer when the driver was waiting for nothing. 4. When charging the guest for No-Show, he admitted in his return email that he did made a “ small “ mistake, but that he should not be penalized for making a mistake. 5. At that point, Management was willing to make a compromise acceptable for both sides. 6. But before Management could have done so, there came additional emails, in very abusive language, blackmailing us, and trying to pressure Management to wave all charges or to find the consequences listed in the tripadvisor. 7. Due to those facts, we than decided not to propose any compromise as we cannot accept being under pressure from anyone, meaning “ dance to my tunes , or….”

This hotel is an enjoyable stay, on one condition. Do not stay there unless you can guarantee yourself a room that is *NOT* on the back side of the building. The back of the hotel is directly across from the loudest noise pollution Transsexual Ladyboy and regular Karaoke clubs on the planet.

Thundering bass, drunk filipino men singing Enrique Eglesias and Neil Diamond songs off-key will literally melt the 3 window paned windows the Hotel has installed to reduce the noise problem. Nothing matters. It will envelop you and destroy your sleep, until 7am, (yes 7am) when these bars finally close.

ASSUMING YOU DONT STAY ON THE BACK WALL ....

Hotel Royal Amsterdam is a very nice place. Very impressive little hotel with a cool looking innter courtyard, very classy cherry wood decor, seemingly expensive spanish tile work everywhere, and honestly some really impressive handcrafted, everything. See my photos attached to this review. The bathrooms have beautiful marble and ceramic tile floor to ceiling, and the beds have custom hand engraved cherry wood beds with "RA" hotel abbreviation on the headboards. They provide soap but you must steal shampoo from the mini-bar and pay a fee, even if it is only a couple pesos. (less than a dollar). The beds are a bit hard, but you'll sleep just fine, assuming you get one of the rooms away from the back wall. Keep in mind that any room with a window to the outside is going to be hell in Angeles. For some reason retarded people on bikes, trikes, and automobiles honk their horns every 1.3 seconds. Often to warn oncoming pedestrians, but more often literally just to make noise. Beep. Beep. Beep. As the fellow rides his bike down the street. Okay?

The front desk is staffed with the sweetest girls on planet earth, and bellboys that do their best to help you as much as possible. Its a small hotel, but they try hard, and they are quite bummed about the noise on the back wall. Its truly unbearable and they sadly said they lose business because of it.

However the good news is that the bars causing the noise are not renewing their licenses, so by the time you read this, you can ask two questions to ensure a positive stay:

1) Are there any rooms available that are not on the back wall?
2) I heard the bars behind your hotel may be closing soon. Have they yet?

I almost didn't 't want to write a good review about this hotel so i can lower the load on this great hotel, rooms are even better than how they look in the photos, I have used two rooms during my stay and both were so quiet, house keeping was great, laundry is good and on time, I had my A/C dropping water and reported this to them and this was fixed in no time, the reception girls were so welcoming, friendly, and smile never leave their faces, security is very helpful, and driver is too nice too.
prices are very reasonable for what you get, the only reason I put 4/5 is the restaurant making little price calculation mistakes 2 times, and sometimes bringing order without invoice and asking for cash which looks suspicious, and when I sign a receipt for the restaurant the reception calls me confirming i have ordered that which shows that there is a trust issue. but the over-all opinion I was very happy staying there, and I will come back again for sure.

Stayed for a night before heading to Manila as Air Asia flies to Clark.
The place is right in the middle of Walking Street where all the bars, nightclubs and other night life activities are eg karaoke, massage etc. Since I was travelling with my partner, I did initially feel that the place was rather dangerous. However, the sight of security guards with guns alleviated those fears. The hotel has a number of floors but without a lift, so you need to climb some stairs.

The room itself (we took the king deluxe room) was pretty large and the bathroom was also rather spacious. The only complain is the after cigarette smell which seem to linger in the room. Lots of channels on tv and it was handy to have the dvd player. Lots of Dvds for sale outside which is really cheap. Across the hotel, there is also a place to eat the popular roasted chicken and some local delicacies, including balut (go Google it).

Service was really good as they communicated quickly and effectively with us through emails when we made our booking. Check in was also really easy. Should also try the in house massage which allows you to be massaged on your own bed. This was really good for me and my partner as we felt a lot more comfortable being in our own room rather than risking going to a dodgy place.

Hotel provides transport transfer to Hotel for a reasonable price. We also got them to arrange our transport to Manila, each way costing 2400pesos. We travelled in quite a comfortable car and got delivered straight to our destination in Manila which was pretty good. The price in my opinion is rather good as I checked other taxi prices and they were more expensive.

Overall pretty pleasant and well priced.

Overall, I'm satisfied with my stay. The management has paid considerable attention to detail to provide guests with a comfortable experience. (Please see minor exceptions, below).

The restaurant food is quite good. The housekeeping and maintenance teams are well-above average, and attentive.

The wireless internet connectivity was better than most in the Philippines. If you need connectivity, it appears you can count on this hotel’s wireless connection. My experience was very good during my extended stay (14 days).

For prospective guests who have never been to Fields Avenue, Angeles City, I'd like to reiterate that before choosing this hotel, you must understand the immediate environment surrounding the property. If you don't do your research, or if you're unfamiliar with this section of Angeles City, you may be surprised. Please do your homework!

WARNING FOR 4TH FLOOR (this is a genuine concern, NOT a complaint!): Although it's been previously discussed, unless you’re in good physical condition, you may want to avoid a room on the fourth floor. Why? There are NO elevators. After a marathon journey across the Pacific Ocean (if you're coming from N. America), I can assure you the hike up their steep stairs, to the fourth floor, will challenge even those who are in good physical shape. For example, I was out of breath and near collapse, and I routinely, and religiously, perform cardio-respiratory exercise on state-of-the-art elliptical trainers (my resting pulse rate is 51). I’m not bragging. I’m trying to make an important point and observation, and I’m truly concerned that somebody will have a coronary some day, if they haven’t, already. AT THE MINIMUM, it would be prudent for the staff to warn guests staying on the fourth floor that the climb is very challenging, especially if you're carrying any luggage. Of course, there are advantages to being on the top (4th) floor. Nobody goes there unless they have a good reason, and if you like privacy and less noise, it may be for you! Over the two weeks of my stay, I learned to ascend the stairs slowly, or even pause at the third floor for a few seconds, or walk around the courtyard area on the second floor before heading up the final two flights of stairs.

RECOMMENDATION FOR HOTEL MANAGEMENT: I realize it’s a business decision, and it’s none of my business, but given the prestigious nature of your hotel, and its overall quality, how costly would it be to provide an inexpensive packet of shampoo for your guests? (RATER'S NOTE: I travel extensively, and stay in hotels about 50+ nights per year. I usually stay in moderately-priced hotels (like this hotel). This hotel is the only moderately-priced hotel I’ve encountered, in a long time, that does not provide hair shampoo for its guests). I'd like to emphasize I’m not going to base my decision for a future stay based on a shampoo packet, but I find it unusual, along with the water situation (keep reading!).

In a city where water quality is of notoriously-poor quality, how costly would it be to provide a “free” 250 ml bottle of potable drinking water? Even if you had to raise your rates by P50 per night (about $1 USD), I think you would gain more respect from your clientele, and possibly more guests, in an increasingly-competitive market (new, moderate-quality hotels are currently under construction in Angeles City).

The only thing this place has going for it is the location and friendly staff. The location can't get any better, if you purpose for your stay is the nightlife (which has declined dramatically). The rooms all smell like old stale cigarettes, had to unload with some air freshener.

Also, I got locked in the bathroom, had to break off the door knob to get out.
