This property is very dated. There was a musty and smokey smell in the room, and there was black on the wall next to the A/C vent. It also appeared that this hotel might be more of a long-term stay type hotel for many of the guests. The advertised complimentary breakfast was non-existent. Definitely felt like we overpaid for this property, which was far below Wyndham standards. Would have stayed somewhere else had I known this in advance, but we were only there for one night (thankfully).

Very dated, smelly, unclean room. Unlike other Hawthorne Suits where we had recently stayed…which were new/modern, clean and served an awesome full breakfast.,..Tinton Falls location could be described as nasty with literally no breakfast available. Would definitely NOT recommend Hawthorne Suites at Tinton Falls. Stayed here one night to attend Luke Bryan concert at PNC Bank Arts Center. Loved Luke, but hated this room!

Hawthorn Review Pandemic, A work in progress Historically this hotel was originally owned by Marriott which we stayed at many years ago but was sold to a Hawthorn Suites franchisee who apparently did not make efforts to maintain or upgrade the premises and then sold to yet another person(s). That may concern you the reader but is possibly symptomatic of the quality of care. As we know the Covid pandemic has had a profound affect and effect. Based on discussions with the people running the Hawthorn Suites claim that they have been renovating each building on the premises due to the recent new owner’s efforts. They further claim that the town of Tinton Falls has limited their ability to make these renovations and limit the amenities (for example a hot breakfast) on their premises due to Covid. There appears to be 3 buildings 1, 7 & 8 that need renovations however we were never able to confirm this during our stay whether there were more. We did hear some work (repairs) on the property but we do not know how aggressive they are. Since we were in building 7 (room 723) we had a number of deficiencies which I documented with a narrative and pictures to management. I realize this is unusual but I make it a point when I visit various hotel/motels to bring this to management in the hopes they can be rectified. • White rack in freezer section is rusting badly • No ice cube trays • One vegetable/fruit bin is missing and the other one is cracked • Inside of refrigerator could be wiped down as I found dead bugs • Refrigerator light is out • One of the closet bi-fold doors is off the track and needs adjustment • Sink drain is not working – Chrome cap seems broken off drain stem at sink’s bottom • Plus it does not allow sink to be filled • Tub is dirty with brown marks in bottom • Only the shower head works • Tub faucet and the device to divert water to tub faucet does not work • Tub faucet is extremely loose and ready to fall out of the wall • Toilet paper holder is loose and ajar • There were areas in the room that needed further cleaning. During our week stay a few of the above was repaired. On a positive note the grounds were well landscaped and they had an area near the pool with rather new lounge furniture. The breakfast buffet was very limited to cold cereal, muffin, yogurt, milk, juice (apple, orange, and cranberry) plus coffee & tea. The front desk claimed that the town of Tinton Falls would not allow hot food on the breakfast menu. We were not allowed to sit in the dining area and were required to take our food back to the room which was OK. Let’s keep in mind they are “a work in progress” as the complex is being repaired. It is fully expected there will be pros and cons from other reviewers before and after this review. This review could have been tougher but because they are making an effort to repair I will wait till the next time I visit. Areas to Visit The Beaches Atlantic Ocean and towns along the coast are very good spots to visit. Generally beach fees are roughly $8 - $10 per day per person. Parking is approximately $20 per day. The exception is Ocean Grove just south of Asbury Park. Parking is free but at times difficult to come by during peak season of May 15 thru September 15. Generally speaking you need to be at the beach no later than 9AM (if not sooner) as most of the beaches at some locations (Asbury Park, Long Branch, Sea Bright) are limited. There are some free beaches at Sea Bright & Monmouth Beach so learn which ones offer this free service. Other towns like Deal there is NO PARKING and mostly private beach clubs. Pets generally speaking are not allowed on Atlantic Ocean beaches unless they can be classified as “service animals.” At Monmouth Beach there is a ramp to the beach at the Monmouth Beach Bathing Pavilion. Monmouth Beach sells a parking pass for $40 a season that can be used at the bathing pavilion parking lot and another parking lot a short block from the beach between Surf Road and Valentine Street, but parking is not guaranteed. Some of the streets in the town are marked as no parking, and on sunny summer weekends it is a challenge to locate a parking place. Thus come early to the beach!! Further some “free beaches” are not protected by lifeguards so do your homework before you arrive. Sandy Hook Beaches These are the northern most ocean beaches in New Jersey. This deserves some consideration as it a National Park and part of the Gateway system of parks. You can secure a daily badge for parking costing $20. There is a seasonal pass for $100. The beaches are free but there are few restrooms and virtually no concession stands to purchase food so come prepared with a cooler of drinks and sandwiches and plenty of suntan lotion. Pets are NOT ALLOWED at: • Ocean-side beaches in the Sandy Hook unit between March 15 and September 15. • All campgrounds. Exceptions: Service animals (guide dogs, signal dogs or other animals trained to perform tasks for persons with disabilities) are accepted. Dogs used by law enforcement officers in the performance of official duties are also accepted. Emotional support animals, comfort animals and therapy dogs are not considered service animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA. As a reminder PETS ARE ALLOWED on the bay side of Sandy Hook just not on the ocean side. Other Attractions include Water Park & Amusement Rides • Six Flags, Jackson, NJ Fishing for fluke on the ocean via party boats (Greater Raritan Bay and South) • Keyport • Atlantic Highlands • Bradley Beach • Point Pleasant Beach • Manasquan You can secure reservations for a half day trip and suggest you bring Dramamine for motion or sea sickness if you have not been out in the ocean. However often the seas are rolling swells so maybe you won’t need them. Parks in Monmouth County Poricy Park, Red Bank/Middletown, NJ (This one is good for hiking and offers wide paths for the novice or narrow foot bridges which are only meant for the more adventuresome) However there are other parks so do your homework before arriving. Restaurants These are too numerous to count but be assured that if you like seafood it is fresh not frozen and recommend such communities including: Keyport; Belford; Atlantic Highlands; Middletown; Red Bank; Sea Bright; Rumson; Little Silver; Long Branch; Oceanport; Monmouth Beach; Asbury Park; Ocean Grove; and Point Pleasant and the list continues. As you will note some of these communities are inland but nevertheless offer fresh seafood. Don’t forget for many of these restaurants you will need reservations so plan ahead. Also secure a regular paper map or you can go to Google, Yahoo, or Bing for your browser needs. Good luck enjoying the Jersey shore!!

Checked in at 5:30pm on a Friday night. The lobby and grounds looked nice pulling in…lobby too. Walked into my room. Crumbs on counter tops. Microwave smudged with finger prints. The inside of the freezer looked like popsicles melted in it. Fridge didn’t work to full capacity. Rugs were dirty. My friend went upstairs to use her bathroom..she turned the light/vent on, it smelled like marajuana. Along with the marajuana, the upstairs bathroom didn’t flush. Called front desk to speak to manager, no manager on site/duty. Was told I would get a call from her in the morning. Housekeeping was gone for the day around 6pm so had to deal w mess. Big lacrosse torunament weekend so no room to move us to. All hotels booked up. Maintenance showed up around 9:30pm and without even seeing the toilet he said “I can come in and look at it but I will have to go get the part tomorrow at Home Depot” (How did he know it was broken and needed a part??) Lucky for us we had another toilet and shower, although the bathrooms had black moldy spots and stains everywhere, we had another toilet. At night, took a shower…no water pressure. It was literally trickling out until the water just stopped coming out. My Friend then tried to take a shower in upstairs bathroom… no water. So now no showers for any of us and our kids played in a tournament and needed one. The next morning we woke up…2nd toilet-broken. Still no call from management by 10am. I went to the front desk, they said she was off for the weekend and would call me. She called me at noon. Said maintenance and housekeeping would be there soon. They didn’t show up until apprx 4:30ish. They did clean the room and fixed both toilets and showers and fridge (and yes it was at the highest setting) The manager said she would comp us for one night stay. The next morning, we check out…we go to lobby…they said the room was prepaid and the bill was still showing the stay for 2 nights and that it was paid. We told the front desk clerk 1-it should have been comped one night. 2-we didn’t pre-pay so why was it paid in full? I asked her when it was pre-paid? She said Friday morning at 9am. So they charged my card before I even got there and before check in time allowed. The rooms look very deceiving in photos. Do not stay here. It was horrifying.
