The El Cortez is a gem. It's vintage, but well cared for. The staff is very friendly. It can feel very impersonal staying on the Strip, so having great customer service is appreciated. Check in was easy. The parking attendants were helpful, moving our car out of the way while we checked in. There is some renovation work going on in the lobby, but it did not detract from our visit. There is a parking garage attached and you can park for free if you're a guest. We stayed in one of the older Pavillion Rooms. Some of the furnishings were a bit old, but the room was clean and well maintained. We had a fridge, but no coffee maker. The bathroom was clean and the shower was excellent. Our room did have an outside entry, but that was actually a nice bonus as there are some excellent views of Vegas. We only spent one night, so we didn't get to take in any of the restaurants or really spend much time in the casino. I liked that the casino had an old school vibe to it (and some of the slots still used coins). It's a very short walk to Fremont Street. We would stay here again: decent room prices, great customer service, nice location, free parking, clean & comfy rooms, and real history!

Great proximity to Fremont Street Experience and live music daily! One block to the downtown Container Park and loads of great restaurant options withing steps of the hotel. The hotel itself is unique, it has charm and history but isn't a huge monstrosity that you would get lost in (like the big ones on the Strip). We stayed in a premium double queen tower room facing the mountains. The room was beautiful. We loved the private balcony, mini fridge, awesome shower and comfy beds. My friend and I ate at Siegels in the hotel a few times and the food was always good and service was great. We also enjoyed a hot stone massage at the hotels spa (very reasonably priced). El Cortez staff was top notch. Melia at the front desk helped us out with our late check out upgrade request and the team members we encountered in our 5 night stay were always friendly and helpful. Security is good, there was always an attendant at the elevators to ensure only guests were allowed in the towers. Loved this hotel!

First time going to Vegas and wanted an affordable, old school taste of Sin City. The El Cortez provided that and more. There were several areas one could stay, the Vintage area (which are only accessible by stairs), Pavilion area, Cabana area (which is across the street off the main property) and the area I stayed at, the tower. Each area can only be accessed by having the right color wristband. My room had some classic vibes, but most was fresh and modern. Bed was comfortable and provided a good nights sleep. Bathroom was good, although the shower door did leak at the bottom, getting the floor wet. Personnel wise, everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay there again.

I stayed in one of the tower rooms. These rooms have been beautifully renovated, and are in excellent condition. I caution that if you look on Kayak, you will see a really low price, but that is not for these rooms, but for one of the less expensive "Vintage" rooms, where you have to take stairs to access them, and they have not been renovated. The bed in my room was comfortable and I slept easily (although I was tired). (I note many negative reviews on Tripadvisor seem to be from people that stayed in the vintage rooms) Food in the restaurant was good. If visiting at a busy time, they do accept reservations via Opentable, but I always got a table with no wait and no reservation. They had what was my favorite Prime Rib dinner of the specials I experienced this week. This property does a nice job of trying to stay old-fashioned (including a few coin-operated slots), yet up to date at the same time. Some Vegas properties either just look old, or they try to rebrand as new and hip, losing the charm they once had. This property has a nice blend of the two. Access to the rooms is tightly controlled via wristbands. If you have more than 2 guests in your room, expect to pay extra or your extra guests will not be allowed to go to your room. If you are planning to have non-hotel guests visit your room for any reason, you shold probably choose another hotel. I would absolutely stay at this property again. It gives satisfactory comfort for a reasonable price, and is located convenient to the Fremont Street Experience.

Received Comp package for 4 nights, $200 free play, $100 food, (received additional 1 hour comp Massage, $50 Free play and $40 food for my $ slot play. Understanding that I played over three days acquiring 7000 comp points) El Cortez Booked me a room overlooking downtown for 4th July weekend. I am impressed by the remodel casino floor ( new carpet, less smoking, new slot machines) . I was overwhelmed by the Beautiful room that I was assigned. I believe that this casino has returned to the old Vegas ways. Treating a customer like a asset, not a number! I am Not a high roller, but I am treated like one.
